âSure!â Jewel signed with her hands. After Eugene left, Olivia wrote a prescription and asked Sophia to procure the medication.
At the same time, Olivia stared at Jewel. âOut with it. What happened?â
Jewel didnât imagine that Olivia could figure out that she had lied, and she took a while to pacify her emotions before whisking out her phone and typing, âAlexâs mom came to meet me today and told me to have some self-awareness. She said I couldnât be of any help in the company and forbade us from dating, so I should stay away from her son. Not only that, she even didnât allow me to talk and called me shameless for clinging on to her son. God, I was furious! Sheâs bullying me because I canât talk!â
Oliviaâs face turned solemn. âWhy did she say those things about you?âJewel shook her head in response. âI donât know. She called me out of the blue and even told me to come up with an excuse to leave Alex.â
Olivia could feel her fury rising after listening to Jewelâs account. She canât even imagine herself in Jewelâs shoes, especially when Jewel couldnât speak up for herself at that time. âDidnât you argue with her? Tell her to ask her son whoâs the one doing all the pestering!â
I called her hateful and said that Alex will be a bachelor sooner or later because of having a mother like her. Then, she wanted to slap me, Jewel typed.
Olivia chuckled and retorted, âThatâs the way! You canât just sit there and listen without defending yourself. So, what if sheâs an elder? An elder should act like one and not throw their weight around just because of their seniority.â
âWhen I first found out that she brought up Alex as a single mother, I kinda admired her. Now I know that itâs utterly twisted for her to revolve around her son like heâs her entire world. Sheâll regard all women who get close to her son as her enemies, Jewel added.
âThatâs an accurate conclusion,â Olivia agreed with a firm nod. Fortunately, you have a kind mother-in-law Jewel wrote. âYes, and your godmother is kind too,â Olivia said, and they giggled. âWhat did you do, then? Did you resign?â
âIâm not that foolish to stick around after what just happened earlier. What should I do if she takes me as a woman coveting her son again? I donât want someone to lash out at me while pointing at my nose once more!â Olivia couldnât help but note with concern, âBut Alex may not let you go.â
Why wouldnât he let me go? His injuries have healed and Iâve cared for him long enough. I donât owe him anything anymore, and I even gave up the salary that I was owed. Whatever it is, Iâm not going back there. Arenât you going to start filming in a few days? Iâll come with you,â Jewel typed.
âThatâs great!â Olivia exclaimed, utterly delighted by her suggestion. âEugene doesnât have to get me a bodyguard, then. With both of us combined, weâll be invincible!â
âWhy do you need a bodyguard? Jewel asked in bewilderment. âGuess who came to my studio today?â Olivia asked. âChristoff.â
Jewel was so shocked that she didnât type a word and voiced her concerns, âWhy did he come here?â
âItâs precisely because we donât know his motive that Eugene decided to hire a bodyguard for me,â she replied. âTheir home base is in Southeast Asia. So, whatâs he doing here in Summer City? Is he here for revenge because we caught his assassin the last time?â Jewel asked.
âThat is my suspicion as well,â Olivia answered seriously. âThen, you better be care- Before she could finish typing, her phone started to ring, and when she saw the familiar name, she decisively hit the red button.
âWas that Alex?â Olivia asked. Jewel nodded. âWhat should I say?â âWrite him a message. If you donât want to return to his company, tell him that I invited you to join my filming crew,â Olivia suggested.
Jewel nodded as she immediately started writing, âMy throat feels unwell, so I came to look for Olivia.â
