Olivia snorted. âHeâs a b*stard. I was gonna smack him on more than one occasion.â Jewel asked, âSo, you managed to subdue him, then?â Or else you couldnât have come back in one piece.
âI canât subdue that kind of guy. I just ignore his actions as long as he doesnât cross the line.â âYouâre being modest. If anyone else had shoved him out as you did, they would have died or lost a limb at best.â A frown creased Oliviaâs forehead. âIsnât that exaggerating a bit?â
Jewel gesticulated. âNot one bit. Heâs a cruel man. None of his girlfriends would ever say no to him. There was this one time when he told his girlfriend to go home, but she fooled around and refused. So, he said he got tired of her and gave her to his lackeys. I heard that the woman came out looking like an abuse victim. Since then, all his girlfriends have been serving him carefully. If they had acted as you did, they would have died.â
âIâm not his girlfriend, though.â Olivia gave her a deadpan look. âIâm just saying heâs a dangerous man. You should stay as far away from him and donât challenge him.â
Olivia chuckled. âWell, I think itâs too late for that. Iâd just kicked his balls today. Bet Iâd put him through quite an agony.â The news came as a shock to Jewel, so she froze for a moment before finally exclaiming in disbelief, âYou did what now?â
Thinking back on what had led her to conduct such an act, Olivia complained, âHe brought that upon himself. He just wouldnât let me go out and keep dilly-dallying.â
âAnd he let you off the hook just like that?â âNope. He looked like he wanted to skin me alive.â âWhat happened then?â
âWell, I decided to be the bigger person and stayed in.â A laugh escaped Jewelâs lips. âYou mean you got spooked.â
âNope, I was just being smart.ââDonât do anything reckless next time. Heâs a capricious man. You canât win in a fight if heâs involved.â
âI know. Donât worry,â Olivia assured. While the ladies were still chatting, Oliviaâs phone suddenly rang. She grabbed it to check the caller ID-it was Eugene. A mischievous glint flashed in her eyes. She giggled as she wondered what he would say, so she took the call and tried to put on a worried act. âEugene? Is that you?â
Eugeneâs voice came from the other end of the line. âYeah, itâs me. And Iâm fine. Were you worried about me?â
She glanced at Jewel playfully as she pretended to speak in a broken voice; she was acting the part of a worried girlfriend perfectly. âWhere did you go? I couldnât get through to you.â He responded, âDonât worry, Iâm fine. I was looking into the case.
Thatâs why I couldnât use my phone.â
She was surprised he wouldnât tell her the truth. Is he worried I might worry? And so, she asked, âYouâve been helping the cops out? I thought you were fooling around with another girl.â
He paused for a few moments before responding, âWhat are you talking about? Youâre the only one I want to fool around with.â
Olivia raised her eyebrow at that. Still not talking, huh? âSo, where are you, anyway?â âAt King of Nambâs house. Howâs work?â
âLike usual. So, when are you coming home?â âIn a few days. Iâll call when I get home.â âIn a few days? Where are you going tomorrow?â
âTo the police station. I need to bring this case to a closure.â
âIs it an accident, or is something more sinister at work?â
