âKeep it. Iâll make sure to contact you when theyâre here. The receptionist hurriedly returned the money.
After Eugene left, a man descended the stairs and released the womanâs hand. He stared outside while making a phone call, âChris, I bumped into Eugene at a restaurant. It seems like heâs looking for a piano kid.â
On the other side, the three kids walked out of Nolan Group while pressing their pinkies. âIt hurts so much. Youâre so mean, Terry grumbled Carter. âOtherwise, he wonât believe it.â Terry defended himself.
âThis Daddy isnât a good person. Letâs forget. about him.â Carter snorted and looked sideways at Blake, who was deeply absorbed in his thoughts. âSomething on your mind?â
Blake frowned. âI think Iâve seen him before.â
âWhere?â âI donât remember.â Blake was blank. Carter deflated. âI knew it. Iâm surprised that you could recognize Godmother. You shouldnât say that you can recognize someone with that prosopagnosia of yours.â
âShe smiled at me. Thatâs why. Blake smiled, turning his eyes into crescent moons. âI think sheâs good enough. We donât have to find who our father is.â âI saw them together,â Terry piped up.
The others were surprised. âWhen?â âOn Promise Island. With Godmother and North, Terry recounted. Although he was immersed in his drawing the whole time that day, unlike Blake, one glance was enough for him to remember.
âWhy didnât you tell us?â An anxious Carter followed up. âIt just came into my mind a moment ago.â Blake asked, âSo, is Eugene Godmotherâs boyfriend?â
âBeats me,â said Terry. Carter was caught up in a dilemma. âShould we tell Godmother that heâs our father?â âAre you serious about accepting him as our father?â reconfirmed Terry softly.
Carter pouted. âI know, right? He doesnât want us, and neither do we.â Blake joined the conversation. âGodmother is enough.
Heâs nowhere as good as her anyways.â
Meanwhile, Eugene received a call from Ellen, who wanted him to come home that night. Knowing what she had to say, he was reluctant to return. However, he did not have the nerves to disobey.
As he had expected, Ellen gave him an earful before he could catch a breath. âWhatâs the matter with you? Are you done with your peaceful life?â
Feeling helpless, Eugene walked to the living room and took a seat. âI know what Iâm doing, Mom. Olivia will be fine in a few days. Iâll talk to her.â The DNA test results might give him an ounce of courage, but he could not shake off the guilt.
The ire in her blazed at that. âYouâre going to drag things for a few days? North and Olivia are staying at the guesthouse, and Jewel is sending and picking him up from school every day. How could you be so calm?â
âI am not calm! Not at all!â he rebutted. âBut Olivia wonât hear me out.â Ellen was stunned. âWhat happened? She never does unreasonable things. You mustâve done something wrong.â
âI know that Iâve made her mad. I havenât thought of how to speak to her.â He was frustrated. âYouâve done something sorry?â
She jumped in surprise.
