Eugene approached Blake and asked, âCan we talk?â Blake looked at him and gave it some thought before replying, âIâll be late for school if I donât get going now.â
Eugene glanced at his wristwatch and said softly, âIt wonât take too much of your time.â Blake glanced at his wristwatch as well and replied coolly, âYou only have ten minutes.â
Eugene put on a helpless smile. It was the first time anyone told him he could only talk to them for a certain amount of time.
Alright, then! I badly want to find out the truth, after all. âCan you come to my car?â he asked.
Blake replied, âGet into mine.â Then, he told the bodyguards to wait for him outside the vehicle. The bodyguards examined Eugene and nodded.
Since Blake had entered the car, Eugene did the same. He had decided to be more patient with his son. As soon as Eugene closed the door, Blake asked, âIs the paternity report ready?â
Eugene dipped his head. âYes.â Hearing that, Blake put on a smug expression. âDo you believe weâre your sons now?â Eugene replied, âYes. Can you tell me who your mother is?â
With a solemn expression, Blake said, âWhy would I tell you the truth when we donât even want to acknowledge you as our father?â
Eugene frowned. âWhy?â
âYou didnât believe us!â Eugene was torn between tears and laughter. âIf someone came up to you one day and claimed you were his father, would you believe him?â
âI have my judgment.â
âHow are you going to make a judgment?â
âIâll tell him to do a paternity test with me.â âThatâs what I did, and thatâs how I found out you guys are my sons. We deal with the issue in the same way.â
Blake was startled while racking his brain. âThatâs different. You were harsh to us and even threatened to let the sharks eat us.â
Eugene explained gently, âI thought you guys were making a scene, so I decided to scare you off. Iâll apologize to you.â
Blake said, âYou have to apologize to all of us. If Terry and Carter forgive you, Iâll do the same.â Eugene replied, âSure. However, can you answer some questions I have now?â
Blake nodded. âGo ahead.â
Eugene asked again, âWhoâs your mother?â He was probably the most miserable father in the world, for he did not even know who his childrenâs mother was.
Blake replied, âWeâve never seen her before. Grandpa said sheâs dead.â Eugene furrowed his brows. âSheâs dead? Whatâs her name?â
Blake explained, âWe donât know her name either. Grandpa said our father is dead as well, so weâre not sure if our mother passed away. Terry heard Grandpa talking about you one day, and thatâs how we found out youâre still alive.â
Eugene was already startled, to begin with, and he was more puzzled now. âWhat did your grandfather say?â
Blake pouted and pondered for a moment. âI traded the secret with Terry. He insisted that he wanted to be the older one.
Grandpa said weâre clever because weâve inherited our intelligence from you. Then, he said if you werenât intelligent enough, you wouldnât have acquired Promise Island. We started looking into Promise Island and your background. It took us a long time to find you, but you didnât believe us.â He appeared displeased while speaking.
Eugene was bewildered. Who is that person? Why did he claim that weâre all dead? Moreover, he even mentioned Promise Island. He then asked, âWhatâs your grandfatherâs name?â
