Chapter 4

Alexia woke up around 8:00 yet again, at walked into her bathroom still feeling groggy from sleep.  She had to be ready by 10:15 when Mr. Dillenwater was taking her to the airport for her flight into West Virginia.  It suddenly occurred to her that she might not even have her own bathroom when she went to the school.  She showered, dried her hair, brushed her teeth, put on make-up, and put on a knee-length skirt and blouse.  She wanted to look great to meet everyone there.  She really hoped they liked her.

After getting ready, she made sure that everything that she would want in the first couple of weeks was packed.  If she wanted to stay, she could have her mother send anything else that she wanted.  It she realized that she might want to take her digital camera, and a couple of her favorite paperback books.  It looked as though she was all packed.

At about 9:15, Alexia looked around her room before wrestling her bags down the stairs.  After she sat them by the door, she sat in the living room to spend some time with her mother.  It felt as though she was leaving forever, but she was sure that she would be back home soon, if only to visit.  She and her mother sat in the living room and talked for what seemed like a few minutes, but was actually an hour.  Before they knew it, Mr. Dillenwater was at their front door, waiting for Alexia to come with him.

Alexia hugged her mother tightly, but she wouldn't let herself cry.  After they said their goodbyes, she followed Mr. Dillenwater to the car.  He put her luggage in the trunk, and they soon after set off for the airport.  The entire ride Alexia looked out the window because it was so awkwardly quiet.  She thought that it was an unusual ride since the usually cheery Mr. Dillenwater didn't talk whatsoever.

They pulled into the airport, and parked with the rental cars, which meant that Mr. Dillenwater wasn't from there.  That also meant that he was also coming with her.  The funny thing was, the only thing that she was currently worried about was who was going to get the window seat.

When they walked into the terminal, Mr. Dillenwater had her watch the suitcases, her three bags of different sizes and his small one, while he went to get their tickets.  After he got their tickets, they went through the long and annoying process of getting to the gate.  They had their tickets checked, took out all of their items and had them scanned, had Alexia's carry-on checked, and each walked through a scanner themselves.  When the airport security was apparently satisfied that neither of them were terrorists, they were waved on through to find their way to the gates.

By the time they found their gate, the plane was just about to finish loading its passengers.  They were the last ones on the plane, but due to Mr. Dillenwater ordering the tickets, they were seated in first class, each of them having their own television.  Alexia was sort of disappointed that the flight was too short to show a movie.

Alexia wanted to appear nice when she got to the school, not grumpy from lack of sleep, so she decided that she would go to sleep on the flight.  She put her headphones in and turned on some music, leaning back in the seat.  She fell asleep before the plane even took off.

Gregory Herwell, "Cheater" to those who knew him at the School, sat in his small apartment-like room and thought about what he heard when he was listening in to the scientists' un-spoken thoughts (He could read minds).  They were thinking about the new girl that was going to be arriving today.  He heard from them that she was a telekinetic, and from somewhere out East.  He was dreading her coming because of a secret that he heard from the scientists about a year ago.  But he wouldn't dwell on that now.

This new girl's room was supposed to be right next to his, which he also learned from the scientists.  That would make it even harder for him not to tell the girl, which was more than likely their plan.  They tried as hard as they could to make any of the five already living here, soon to be six, miserable.

Cheater went over to the desk in his bedroom to finish his homework for the day, currently trigonometry, his least favorite subject.  He inwardly sighed.  He really hoped that they didn't make him take it again, since he would probably fail their test on it.  They were probably going to make him take it again just because they knew that he hated it though, that's just how they were.  They didn’t care about what the kids though, they just wanted their tests done.  They brought Cheater in using the ‘school’ setup. It didn’t work on him so they kidnapped him instead.  He’s been at the ‘school’ ever since.  That was when he was seven, in other words, ten years ago.  He had passed his sixteenth birthday without even a chance at his license, and he would probably be here even after he turned eighteen.  He truly hated this place but had no other choice.  It was like God was playing a game with him, although he was sure it was to help out the others who were stuck here with him.

After he was done with his homework and his pity fest, Cheater decided that it was about time that he should go to bed; it was already 10:00.  Although the girl would be here tonight, she probably wouldn't be introduced until the morning.  He fell asleep to his alarm clock ticking and the thought of the secret that he learned a year ago.

------------

When the plane flew over Charleston, West Virginia, Alexia was woken up by an excited Mr. Dillenwater wanting to show her the sights.  She was astounded by all of the mountains.  She had never seen such beautiful greenery.  It was impossible for words to describe.  After a while, they landed at the small Chuck Yeager Airport.  They went to get their bags and Alexia waited while Mr. Dillenwater snagged a rental car.  They went outside to find it and discovered that they were on the top of a big mountain.  The view was impressive.

Since it was 8:00 when they started off to the ‘School,’ as Alexia was informed it was called, she decided that she would sleep again.  She could see the scenery when she got there.
