Chapter 335
I nodded, a grin spreading across my face. âYeah, thatâs right. What about you? Christmas is here; when are you heading back?â
Even if the deal with Gregory didnât go through, I still had to make the trip. The customâmade dresses for Ramona and Adah needed to be delivered. After all, it wasnât just about the items, but the service too. Besides, Janedream was counting on these two ladies to help boost its reputation. This was a trip I had to make personally.
âIâll go back with you guys! Wait up for me!â Molly threw the door open and dashed back inside, cramming stuff into a backpack before reappearing.
âMolly, what are you, practicing parkour at home this early? Keep it down, or move out. Itâs not like you donât have another place!â From the living room, Gregoryâs annoyed roar filled the air.
And he said I had morning temper? Clearly, his temper was clearly worse.
Molly shushed him, âWhy so grumpy? Janeâs waiting at the door for us, get up!â
âJust three more minutes.â After that, silence resumed.
I glanced at my watch. Perfect, only five minutes left until the time Gregory and I had agreed upon. Surprisingly, at 7:00 AM sharp, he lazily walked out the door. Apparently, three minutes for sleeping, two for brushing and washing up.
Which rich kid treats his own image with such disregard? His bangs were a messy tumble over his forehead, fluffy like a birdâs nest, his eyes halfâclosed in a doânotâdisturb manner. Still, with his good looks and natural charm, even this disheveled appearance seemed irresistibly alluring.
Catching a glimpse of me, he lifted his gaze, âDid you put a spell on her?â
I blinked, confused. âHuh?â
âShe never wanted to go back before, even spent Christmas alone outside.â Gregoryâs voice was lazy and husky with sleep. âBut suddenly she changed her mind when she heard you were going?â
âMaybe she just felt like going back for Christmas this year?â
âImpossible.â
âWhy?â I couldnât help but ask.
He didnât hide anything. âShe doesnât like my dad, barely went home since she was little. Why do you think the Myers momâandâdaughter duo donât know her?â
âIs she on bad terms with your dad?â
âHeâs not my dad!â Molly had come out, backpack in tow, and declared firmly.
Gregoryâs voice was cold. âEither donât go back, or if you do, be smart about it.â
âYouâre all the same.â Molly, undeterred, looked at me. âJane, itâs better you remarry Mr. Ferguson than being with someone like him.â Gregory grabbed her ear. âDonât you ruin my reputation.â
âWhat are you so worried about?â Molly stood her ground, still provoking. âWerenât you only interested in Lilliana? Why do you care so much lately about what I tell Jane, could it be⦠youâve fallen for herâ¦â
âGet lost!â Gregory let go of her, without a word in his defense, but the atmosphere around him had noticeably darkened.
The drive to Vista Town was eerily silent. Gregory, sitting in the passenger seat, fell asleep almost immediately, slumping against the seat, aloof and quiet. Molly, after trying and failing to start a conversation a few times, mindful of having just irritated him, didnât dare make a sound.
Finally, unable to hold back any longer, she dug out a pair of earplugs from her bag and handed them to me, signaling for me to offer them to Gregory.
I didnât dare accept them, mouthing instead, âYou do it.â
âHeâll yell at meâ¦â Molly looked like she was about to cry. âDonât worry, he probably wonât yell at youâ¦â
With that, the earplugs ended up in my hands. Feeling a headache coming on under Mollyâs hopeful gaze, I braced myself and spoke up, âGregâ¦â
âShut up, give them here.â
