Chapter 417
She chimed in quickly, looking quite obedient, âYeah, we met back in Vista
Town.â
âSeems like it was meant to be.â
Bella smiled and turned to me, âThis is my daughter, Summer Taylor.â
She took her motherâs surname.
I wasnât sure of the backstory, but it was their personal life, so I didnât pry and just offered a polite smile.
Summer seemed to hide some emotion, then clung to Bellaâs arm, pleading playfully, âMom, please let me try showbiz. Iâm just curious. Let me give it a shot, and if I donât like it, Iâll quit, okay?â
âJust give it some time, honey. Let me think it over,â Bella soothed her patiently.
Summer pouted, murmuring softly, âOkay, then.â
Bella was easygoing, making the meal quite harmonious.
Except for the occasional glances Summer threw my way.
After dinner, Bella had to catch a flight and left in a rush with her manager and assistant, leaving a bodyguard to look after Summer.
I walked to the hotel entrance, and Summer hurried after me.
âMs. Myersâ¦â
She looked at me timidly, âThanks for not telling my mom about what happened before.â
I frowned, âNo need to thank me. I just donât like meddling in other peopleâs
business.â
Being Bellaâs daughter/I couldnât understand why she had followed Dorothyâs scheming to impersonate me two years ago.
With that thought, I couldnât help but ask, âIâm curious, being Bellaâs daughter is quite prestigious, why would youâ¦â

âMs. Myers, since you said you donât like meddling, maybe donât dive into other peopleâs personal lives,â Summer said, her lips pursed, eyes blinking, âIn the Myers family, youâre Ms. Myers, but here, youâre just a costume designer for my mom. Itâs important to know your place.â
âFine.â
Iâm not usually nosy, and her words made me think maybe I was overstepping. Better not get dragged into some mess again.
As I turned to leave, she called out again, âCould I ask you one more thing? About what happened two years ago at the Myers place, please never mention it to my mom.â
â?â
I laughed mockingly, âLike I said, I donât meddle. So, weâll see how I feel.â
Good luck getting everything you want.
The day I was to head to Vista Town, Bryant offered to pick me up.
I wanted to decline.
But since we also had to pick up a specialist from the airport, I agreed to go
with him.
After all, it was about my grandmotherâs health; it didnât seem right to have
him run back and forth alone.
On our way to Vista Town, he worked on his laptop resting on his knees.
Clearly, he was squeezing in the trip amidst a busy schedule.
When he finally closed his laptop, I looked up from my phone, âThanks for doing this, especially when youâre so busy.â
âItâs no big deal.â/
Bryant took off his glasses, rubbing his nose bridge, and ventured cautiously, âYouâve met Gregory, havenât you?â
I was surprised, âYou knew he was still alive?â
911
âHis moves were too noticeable. Vista Townâs hotshot SZ Technology last year made me suspect it was him behind it.â
I paused, a bit slow to respond, âSZ Technology is his?â
SZ Technology had been around for years, never making much of a splash until a couple of years ago when it suddenly exploded onto the scene with a slew of patents, like a bolt from the blue.
With the backing of some powerful forces, its growth was meteoric.
But aside from Bryant, few would have connected it to Gregory.
Plus, I had always assumed that if Gregory had survived, heâd be in Franceâ¦
Turns out he was in Vista Town all along.
Arriving at Vista Town airport, after picking up the specialist and his assistant, we headed straight for the nursing home.
Ramona, seeing me, was overjoyed, grabbing my hand, âLilliana, you came to see me?â
âGrandma, how have you been these past few days?â
âGood, everythingâs been good.â
As Ramona tried to lead me to sit down, she noticed Bryant and Dr. Andrews, looking a bit confused, âAnd these two areâ¦?â
âRamona, this is Dr. Andrews, and Iâm Bryant Ferguson. Just call me Bryant.â
âBryant?â
Ramona paused, âYouâre Lillianaâs classmate, right?â
âRamona, Iâm Lillianaâs ex, But now, weâreâ¦â
âShush.â
Ramona, rarely angry, glared at him, interrupting, âNonsense. Lilliana is Gregâs fiancée, she couldnât possibly be with you.â
She then pulled me further away from Bryant, as if afraid he might harm me in
some way.

It was a rare sight to see Mr. Ferguson, so used to being courted and flattered, standing awkwardly by.
I couldnât help but laugh, soothingly saying, âRight, grandma, heâs just joking. But he did bring Dr. Andrews from overseas to check on you. Letâs cooperate with the doctor for a bit, okay?â
Ramona then agreed to Dr. Andrewsâ examination without further complaint.
I watched nervously from the side.
Over the past two years, Iâd secretly arranged for specialists to treat Ramona, but the outcomes were always less than hopeful.
Despite Bryantâs assurance, I was still anxious about receiving bad news.
Bryant suddenly approached, speaking softly, âDonât worry, trust me, okay? Dr. Andrews has been specializing in this field for over twenty years. He wouldnât commit if he wasnât confident.â
âOkay.â
lâexhaled softly.
After a while, Dr. Andrews helped Ramona sit up, turning to Bryant and me. âMr. Ferguson, Ms. Webster, her condition isnât the worst Iâve seen.â
I breathed a sigh of relief, âThen, can youâ¦â
âGive it a month at most.â
