Chapter 424
Little Ike looked to be around three or four years old, dressed in trendy clothes, and with a face so adorably sculpted it could melt hearts. He looked up at me with those big, innocent eyes, and I couldnât help but feel a tug at my heartstrings.
I was slightly puzzled and gently patted his tiny head, âAuntie?â
âYes, Auntie! My nameâs Ike Taylor. You can just call me Ike!â
The little guy introduced himself with a soft, youthful voice, looking every bit the picture of sweetness.
I couldnât help but chuckle softly, squatting down to his level and saying gently, âAlright, Ike, butâ¦â
I paused, turning to Gregory, âIke is your nephew?â
âEdithâs son.â
Gregory lazily lifted his gaze, speaking in an indifferent tone, âSheâs off to Europe for a trip tonight. Ike has school, so Iâm stuck looking after him for a while.â
âReally?â I glanced at his legs, questioning, âAre you sure⦠you can handle a kid?â
Ike then hugged my neck, peppering my face with kisses, his voice muffled, âAuntie, you can play with me!â
I must admit, I was completely won over by his charm, but still, I turned to Gregory, asking again, âAuntie?â
Gregory seemed unfazed, âKids, they like to say whatever.â
I held Ikeâs tiny shoulders, correcting him, âIke, can you call me âJaneâ? Auntie is not something you can just call someone.â
He tilted his head, confused, âWhy?â
âWellâ¦â
I pondered how to explain this in the simplest terms, âAuntie is like your uncleâs future wife. Your uncle and I are justâ¦â

âI get it now!â
Before I could choose my words carefully, Ike jumped up excitedly, clapping his chubby hands, âThen you are Auntie! Mommy said if two people like each other very, very much, they can become husband and wife. So, that means Uncle really, really likes youâ¦â
He was cut off midâsentence by Gregory, who quickly covered his mouth.
âKid, what do you know about liking someone?â
Ike glared at him, âUncle, I know!â
Gregory chuckled, âOh yeah? Explain.â
âLike, Ike really, really doesnât like you!â
Saying so, Ike cuddled into me like a koala, pleading softly, âAuntie, I like you. Can I go home with you?â
My heart melted, but it didnât seem right to take someone elseâs child home.
I thought for a moment, then declined gently, âSweetie, Iâm staying in a hotel right now. Itâs not as convenient as a home, you know.â
Gregory frowned, âWhy donât you stay at the Elmwood Villas apartment?â
I made up an excuse on the spot, âForgot the password.â
The Elmwood Villas apartment, the one he gifted me two years ago.
Because of what happened two years ago, thereâs been a distance between us, and I felt guilty.
Therefore, coming to Vista Town this time, I never considered staying there.
Gregory snorted, âYou forgot your ow.n birthday too?â
I coughed lightly, admitting, âItâs more like, I thought it wouldnât be appropriate for me to stay there.â
Gregory smirked, âWhatâs inappropriate? Any of the gifts youâve given me before wouldnât be cheaper than that apartment.â
That reminded me of old times.
Whenever I found something nice, Iâd share it with him first.

Not to mention his birthdays or the holidays, Iâd always empty my piggy bank and even ask Ramona for some extra cash.
With that thought, I suddenly felt justified. He owed me, after all.
Before I could respond, he mocked again, âOr is it that you have too much money and insist on staying at a hotel? Give me the excess cash; Iâll spend it for you.â
âIn your dreams.â
I glared at him, then pinched Ikeâs chubby cheek, âYou can come and play at my place. Itâs just below your uncleâs house. Iâll move there this afternoon, and youâre welcome anytime!â.
Ike planted a kiss on my cheek, chirping, âOkay, pretty lady!â
Gregoryâs face darkened as he gritted his teeth, âIke!â
Ike looked baffled, âWhatâs wrong, Uncle?â
Gregory frowned, schooling him, âWho taught you to keep kissing girls? Thatâs not allowed!â
âUncle, havenât you ever kissed a pretty lady?â
Both Gregory and I felt a bit awkward at that moment.
Thankfully, Ramona chose that moment to come out. Despite her age and occasional confusion, she always maintained an air of elegance.
Just out of bed, her hair was meticulously done, and she wore a handâstitched dress that seemed to defy time itself.
It seemed she could always/recognize Gregory and me, greeting us warmly, âLilliana, youâre here. And Greg, what brings you here so early?â
âJust checking in on you.â
Gregory patted Ikeâs head, instructing him, âSay hi to greatâgrandma.â
âGreatâgrandma!â Ike, far from shy, greeted her loudly, immediately making himself endearing.
Ramona smiled kindly, âAh, such a sweet boy!â

Gregory then explained, âHeâs Edithâs kid.â
âEdith?â Ramona had forgotten.
But Gregory didnât want to burden her with memories, instead focusing on her wellâbeing, âHow have you been these past few days?â
âJust fine, just fine.â
Seeing both of us there made Ramona very happy. âLilliana even found a doctor to help with my health.â
After a bit more conversation, Ramona suddenly turned to Gregory, âGreg, when are you planning to marry our Lilliana?â
