Wesley is Sitting up in bed when I open my eyes.
"Hey. Happy Half-Year Anniversary." Wesley says
"That's not a thing." I tell him
"Well, maybe not for cynical police officers, but for tender-hearted lawyers, it's totally a thing. But, hey, if you don't want to go to n/naka tonight -" Wesley says and I sat up in bed excited
"You got a reservation? You need to make those like six â" I was saying when he interrupted me
"Six months in advance. I know." Wesley says to me smiling
"I love your confidence. Wait. We've only been dating for five months." I tell him
"Yeah, well, technically, but -" Wesley says then I interrupt him
"Did you make that reservation for someone else and hope I wouldn't remember exactly when we hooked up?" I ask him
"If I say yes, are you gonna say no?" Wesley asks me cautiously
"Are you kidding? I would kill to eat there. But I'm gonna require some serious shower time â" I tell him getting out of bed and taking my shirt off as I go towards the bathroom
"Oh." Wesley says
"- for you to make amends." I finish and toss my shirt bath at Wesley and he caught it
"Deal. Yeah. Whoa. Okay." Wesley says and we laugh and get in the shower

"It is hot as the surface of the sun out there." Nolan says
"Yep. Gonna be like that all week. Good thing we're all in short sleeves now." West says
"The uniforms are still wool. Today's gonna be a nightmare." Chen says
"I'm just saying I don't get out of the car for less than a felony when the needle hits 100." I say to Tim
"Your commitment to protecting and serving is admirable." Tim says
"As long as I can do it in comfort." I say when Harper passes Tim on her way to a seat in the front
"You know the front row's for the rookies, right?" Tim asks her
"You hoping I'll sit by you?" Harper asks him
"I'm just telling you how it is." TIm tells her
"The day I need that from you is the day I hang up my spurs." Harper says and I laugh a little bit
Harper leaves and I look at Tim.
"You know you're losing, right?" I ask him
"Good morning. We've got ourselves a heat wave, which means what, Officer West?" Grey asks
"Studies show that a 1% loss of body mass due to sweating decreases cognitive ability and increases anxiety levels." West answers
"Translation: tempers will be short, drug and alcohol use up, so stay hydrated and stay sharp. Now, while the rest of you are baking in the sun, Officer Nolan will be flop-sweating in his very first preliminary court hearing." Grey says
"Oh, no flop sweats here, sir. I have reviewed the arrest report repeatedly. I am 100% ready to testify on all the facts." Nolan tells him
"Hmm. Bradford?" Grey says looking at us
"When did you graduate the Academy?" Tim asks
"Oh, that was September â" Nolan starts to answer
"Exact date, Boot." Tim tells him
"What's your weapon's serial number?" Harper says
"I don't know the â" Nolan starts to say when he is interrupted again
"You need to know the number by heart." Harper tells him
"For a DUI arrest? I didn't even draw my weapon." Nolan asks
"If you don't even have your personal information squared away, how could you possibly know the facts of the case?" Harper tells him
"A defense attorney's job is to screw you up on the stand, by any means necessary." I tell him
"Which means everything that connects to your experience on the job is in bounds. Got it?" Grey asks him
"Yes, sir." Nolan tells him

Some man is driving an older model sedan with an air conditioning unit hanging out the window.
"Well, that can't be legal." West tells
"It's not. Light him up." I tell him
"You're not coming?" West asks me
"It's a low-risk misdemeanor. You got this. Ahh." I say after turning the A/C in the shop

West and I lead in the man who had the A/C unit, who was only wore a shirt, socks, shoes, and a hat.
"How could I have known he wasn't wearing pants?" I ask West
"No, not just pants - bottoms of any kind. I'll never be able to unsee that." West says while I make a face of disgust
He guides the man to sit, but then the man sighs in the cooler room and decides to spread his legs.
"Whoa! My man, close it up." West tells him

West and I are still at the station and we both got the same alert and each made a look of shock.
"This can't be real." West tells me while I re-read the alert
EMERGENCY ALERT
BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT
INBOUND TO LOS ANGELES
IMPACT IN 29 MINUTES
SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER
THIS IS NOT A DRILL

West and I were walking around making sure that everyone knew where to go when I see that Wesley is talking to me through the radio.
"Wesley?" I ask
"Hey, how's it going?" Wesley asks me
"Oh, you know, pretty good for the end of the world. I'm bummed we're gonna miss our reservation."I tell him
"Look, we're not. This is just a false alarm. Okay?" Wesley reassures me
"Yeah." I say not really meaning it
West and I are still walking through traffic, telling people in cars where to go for shelter.
"Hey. You all right? There's a bomb shelter at the public school two blocks west, all right? Head there." West asks to the driver of the car he is at
"Where are you?" I ask Wesley
"I'm at the courthouse with Nolan and Jessica and a bunch of scared people." Wesley tells me
"Two blocks west. Head there." West says to another driver
"Are you going down to the bomb shelter?" I ask him
"Judge Stevens said there isn't one." Wesley says and I have a confused look on my face
"Criminal courthouse on Spring?" I ask double checking making sure I am correct
"Yeah." Wesley says
"There's definitely a fallout shelter. I was down there once as a rookie." I tell him knowing that I was right about it

"Hey. Nolan. Angela says this place does have a bomb shelter. Are you safe where you are? Angela. Are you still there?" Wesley says into the radio
"Yeah. I'm heading underground." I say to him
"Okay. I love you Soph." Wesley tells me
"Love you, too Wes." I tell him smiling

West and I are walking along still looking for anyone who needed help.
"Ten minutes. We still have time to get to the fallout shelter at the courthouse, hook up with Wesley." West tells me
"Yeah, maybe we should, just to be safe." I say about to radio but stop
A scarf then floats down from the building that we are about to walk past, and when we look up we see five people standing at the edge of a rooftop, chanting.
"All hail Children of the Stars." The people chant
"The worthy will ascend into the heavens!" One person said
"All hail Children of the Stars." Everyone chants
"We are not going to the shelter, are we?" West asks me and I give him a look

"We will wait for your arrival, Noon Star Harvesters." The leader of the five say
"All hail Children of the Stars." Everyone chants
"Today the saviors will gather our souls." The girl says again
"All hail Children of the Stars." Everyone chants again
"The worthy will ascend into the heavens." The leader of the five says again
"All hail Children of the Stars." All five chant
"Hey!" I yell
"We await your arrival â" The leader of the group starts but I interrupt
"How about you come down from there?" I ask her
"- Noon Star Harvesters." The girl continues
"All hail Children of the Stars." Everyone chants
"No. It's almost our time, but there's nothing to fear. This was all prophesized "Like a clarion call," word shall spread of our saviors from above. Heed ye the Noon Star Harvesters, for they shall descend from the heavens "so The Worthy can ascend." So sayeth the prophet Jedediah." She says
"All hail Children of the Stars." The five chant
"Okay. So, you're saying the missile -" West goes to ask
"Isn't a missile. It is a cloak behind which our saviors will come to us, and we will step out to meet them at the appointed time, ascending into their interstellar embrace." She says
"All hail Children of the Stars." The five chant
"Today the Saviors will -" The girl says while West talks to me
"So, they're clearly crazy. Can we go now?" West asks me
"All hail Children of the Stars." The five chant again
"You can. But I'm not leaving until I get them down off that ledge." I tell him
"All hail Children of the Stars." The five chant again
"Yeah, but if the missile's real, it won't matter if they jump." West tells me
"And if it's not?" I ask him with a certain look on my face
"We wait for your arrival, Noon Star Harvesters." The leader says
"All hail Children of the Stars." They all chant
"Today the Saviors will gather our souls." The girl says
"Okay, I'm in. But they're true believers. How are we gonna get through to them in nine minutes?" West asks me
"I'm open to suggestions." I tell him
"All hail Children of the Stars." The five chant
"Today, the Saviors will gather our Souls." The girl says
"All hail Children of the Stars." The five chant
"The worthy will ascend into the heavens." The girl says
"All hail Children of the -" The five start to chant
"Excuse me. I hate to interrupt. I just have a question." West says
"The time for questions is done." The girl tells him
"Totally. I just - Whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Hold on. Hold on. Who's Jedediah? You mentioned him earlier." West changes what he was saying at first after seeing her foot shift
"He is the prophet who helped us cast away our earthly possessions and see the truth." The girl says
"About the aliens?" West asks while I am also confused as well
"They're not aliens. They're spirits from another universe." The girl tells him
"And where is he? Jedediah." I ask her
"He's joining us in the heavens." The girl answers me
"Does that mean he's on another rooftop?" I ask her
"No. This is the one true spot, where the chosen will ascend." She tells me
"And yet he's not here. What's your name?" I ask her
"Aurora." Aurora answers me
"How old are you, Aurora?" I ask her
"Nineteen. It is the age of the chosen." Aurora answers
"Aren't you scared?" I ask her
"No, I'm at peace. It's just I don't like heights." Aurora tells me
"I don't blame you. It's a long way down." I tell her not liking heights myself
"So why do you have to step off the roof to ascend?" West asks her
"'Cause that's the way it must be." Aurora tells West
"Why? The spirits love you." I say
"Oh, yes." Aurora tells me
"And they're traveling all this way to save you. Do you think they really care how you meet them, as long as you do it with open arms?" I ask her
"It is a test to our faith." Aurora says
"There is no doubt you have faith, all of you. So come down now, and we'll wait for them together on solid ground. I promise it'll be okay." I tell her hoping they will listen
Aurora and the group exchange worried looks then climb down off the edge of the roof.
"Attention, all units. Missile alert is a false alarm, I repeat - the alert is a false alarm." Grey says from the radio
"Oh, thank God." West says under his breath
"What does - What does that mean?" Aurora asks me
"It means they're not coming." I tell her not wanting to ruin her belief or anyone else's

"No! Don't open it!" We hear a woman yell
Then we see the back of Hutchinson and I point my gun up along with West.
"Hey." West says
Then Hutchinson turns around and lets go of the judge, causing West to be able to cuff him.
"Ugh!" Hutchinson says
"Looks like you'll be spending some time in solitary after all. So, no missile?" Nolan asks
"False alarm. Heat wave caused a malfunction at Edwards Air Force Base." West tells him
"Where's Wesley?" I ask after looking around with my eyes
"I don't know. He was just here." Nolan tells me
While people begin filing out of the room, I walk into the back to look for Wesley. Then I spot his feet sticking out from behind a filing cabinet and feel relieved until I see the one thing I didn't want to see again. Wesley was sitting there bleeding from a stab wound to the chest and was losing consciousness.
"Get an ambulance! Wesley. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. It's okay, baby. I'm here. I'm here. I'm here. Stay with me. Stay with me." I tell him crying not wanting this to happen again
Soon, we made it to the hospital after getting out of the bomb shelter.
"35 year old male in hypovolemic shock, stab wound to the left chest, possible pneumothorax." A nurse says
"Alert the O.R. This guy's jumping the line." The doctor says
"We've got him from here." Another nurse tells me
"No no no,I'm not leaving him, not again, not again." I tell her and she looks at me
"Miss we will do everything we can to save him, but now, to make sure he is okay, it depends on the extent of the internal damage, but we're gonna do everything we can. Sorry. I've gotta go." She says to me and leaves

While sitting down I start thinking back to what happened with James.
Flashback
I go into the warehouse since James wasn't responding to me over the mic. When I get in there I see someone shoot a gun straight at his chest and scream.
Once that man leaves, I rush over to James, not caring about the blood getting on me.
"James! James! Stay with me please!" I tell him going to my phone
"911 whats your emergency?" The dispatcher asks
"My name is Sophia Lopez. I am a Undercover cop and detective for Midwilshere station, my husband has been shot please send an ambulance." I say crying
"Okay, an ambulance is on their way." They tell me after I tell her the address
"Please James, stay with me." I tell him and he looks at me
"I love you." James tells me and I sob out loud
"I love you too. But stay with me alright, don't close your eyes please." I plead with him and he nods his head
When the ambulance gets here we get to the hospital but it was already to late.
When we got to the hospital, the sirens weren't going. When Tim and Angela saw the ambulance doors open, they saw me crying, sobbing, while holding onto James hand.
After I let go, they roll his body to the morgue and Angela gets in the Ambulance to get me out while I just keep crying and crying and crying.
End of Flashback
I was pacing in the waiting room, waiting to hear anything on Wesley's condition. West comes in and stands there while I pace holding onto the necklace with James wedding ring on it.
"Hey. Sure I can't get you something?" West asks again
"I'm fine. What's taking so long?" I tell him not wanting to think of anything else
I am tuning everyone out only thinking about how Wesley's surgery is going when a nurse finally comes out of the OR and comes directly to me.
"Is he okay?" I ask
"The surgery went well. The doctor repaired his lung. As long as there are no complications, he should make a full recovery." The nurse tells me and I let out a sigh
"Thank you." I tell her
"They'll move him into ICU in a few hours. I'll come get you so you can see him." The nurse tells me and leaves
Once I turn around, I embrace everyone with teary eyes.
"He's gonna be okay." I say to Angela hugging her next
"He's gonna be okay." Angela reassures me just incase

Here's the next chapter! I finished working on it and I am so happy I am posting it! I am going to try to work on the next chapters for some of my other books if I am able to. I hope ya'll are liking this book so far even though the lines are the same as Angela, I am trying to change them up at least a little bit.
Now, I thought ya'll would probably want to know what happened to James(if that was his name I forgot after a while) and all that. Also, about past times that I have said I will update in a couple days, I was going to but then I didn't have the energy and all that plus I have been looking at colleges. Now, I also know that ya'll have been waiting for the Tim Bradford book. I am trying to figure out how to start it because I had three ideas but I don't know if I like them. I will write them on here but I am also making a fourth option. Once you see you can vote for the first three ideas I had or other, but if you go other you can give me an idea and I will give you the credit for the idea. Also, the next two weeks are EOC for me but I only have two to take and they are next Monday and Wednesday so I will not be doing any editing what so ever those days because to anyone who knows they take a lot out of me.
