"The number you're trying to reach is currently switched off, please try later." Hearing this automated message for what felt like the hundredth time, she hurled the phone onto the bed and collapsed onto the sofa, her frustration boiling over.
Tears welled up in her eyes, and her nose turned a deep shade of red as she struggled to contain her emotions.
"How could he do this to me?" she screamed, her voice echoing through the room as she hurled the vase on the table to the floor.
The sound of shattering glass was music to her ears, a reflection of the turmoil brewing inside her. Tears streamed down her face, and she wiped them away jerkily, the rough motion leaving red rashes on her cheeks.
She sat there, her knees tucked close to her chest, her face buried in them. Her heart felt like it was shattering into a million pieces as she thought about how Avyaan could so callously leave without a word.
The pain was not just about his departure; it was also about the state of Amaira, whom she had promised to support. The weight of her responsibilities and the chaos around her was suffocating her.
She wanted to remain calm, but something inside her was stirring, making her more agitated by the minute. She sobbed uncontrollably, her cries echoing through the room.
Suddenly, her vision began to blur, and her head fell back against the sofa. Her eyelids grew heavy, and she whispered her final words before drifting off into a fitful sleep"A-vyaan..."
6 days later...
Mahi held up the wine-red dress, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Look, Ishuu, doesn't this look stunning?" she asked, but Ishuu's response was a mere nod, her eyes lacking their usual sparkle.
Mahi's face fell, her concern for her friend evident. "Ishuu, stop this, tomorrow is your birthday, baby! At least give me a smile," she pleaded, her voice laced with affection.
She walked over to Ishuu, cupping her cheeks in her hands. "You can't fool me, Ishuu. I know you're not okay."
Ishuu forced a smile, but it didn't reach her eyes. "I'm okay, Mahi. I'm okay," she repeated, her voice cracking with emotion. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she struggled to hold them back.
"See, I'm very happy," she said, her voice trembling.
Mahi's eyes filled with tears as she looked at Ishuu's distraught state. "Ishuu, don't say that. You're breaking my heart," she whispered, pulling Ishuu into a warm hug.
She gently tapped Ishuu's back, trying to comfort her. "Avyaan told you he'd come, didn't he? He'll be here, Ishuu. Why are you crying?"
Ishuu's tears flowed freely as she buried her face in Mahi's shoulder. "He said he'd come, but you know when the day he left he called me on that day and after that he didn't even call me for once," she sobbed, her pouted lips trembling with emotion.
The day he left...
Ishu lay in bed, struggling to sleep despite the pill she'd taken for her headache.
But her mind was racing, and her body felt odd, like something was off. "What's happening? Everything seems to be spiraling out of control," she whispered, her eyes welling up with tears.
Just then, her phone rang, and a wave of happiness washed over her.
She frantically searched for her phone in the dark, her heart racing with anticipation. As her hands closed around the phone, she saw the name on the screen: 'Pujniya Patidev'. A spark of joy ignited in her eyes.
She hastily answered the call, her voice barely above a whisper. "Hello." Avyaan's deep voice responded, but Ishu's emotions got the better of her.
She hummed, trying to compose herself, remembering that she was supposed to be angry.
Avyaan chuckled, his voice sending shivers down her spine. "Oh, my angry biwi, sorry for not informing you..." But Ishu cut him off, her voice laced with a mix of anger and hurt.
"Did I ask you to explain?" she snapped, trying to sound stern, but her sweet voice betrayed her, making Avyaan chuckle again.
"Who said I'm explaining, biwi ji?" he teased. "I'm informing my swarg se utri hui kokila kanth apsara wife about my location, which she has every right to know." Ishu's cheeks flushed with a deep blush, but she tried to maintain her angry facade.
"Enough, speak for what you've called," she said curtly.
Avyaan's voice turned serious. "Okay, okay. I'm in Paris for a crucial business deal. I forgot about it until yesterday, and by the time I remembered, you were asleep. I didn't want to disturb you, so I decided to inform you later."
"But-" Ishu tried to interrupt, but Avyaan continued, "I'll call you later." And with that, the call ended.
Tears brimmed in Ishu's eyes as she held the phone near her ear, the silence deafening. With a huff, she threw the phone onto the bed and buried herself under the blankets, crying uncontrollably.
After that day, neither of them called each other.
But Ishu couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. She was mentally hurt, but there was something physical that was bothering her even more.
She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but something felt odd, like her body was trying to tell her something.
Present day...
After explaining everything to Mahi, Ishu broke down in tears again. "Enough, Ishuu, calm down," Mahi said, gently patting her back.
After comforting Ishu for a while, they finally bought the birthday dress and other accessories, and headed back home.
As the evening sun cast its golden glow, they entered the Rathore mansion and made their way to their room. Just as ishu was about to enter, she heard Amaira's voice. "Bhabhi." Ishu stopped and turned to face Amaira.
"I gave you enough time to help me, but now time is up," Amaira said, her voice laced with a mix of desperation and anger. "I'll do what I have to do, and you won't interfere." Ishu's expression turned calm and soothing as she cupped Amaira's cheeks.
"Amaira, you're not thinking this through. Even if you try to run, the family will catch you immediately. You know this. Please, stop being childish and wait until bhai returns. I'll talk to him, and I'm sure he'll help us."
Despite feeling irritated and tired of Amaira's constant warnings, Ishu composed herself, speaking softly and calmly.
Amaira nodded, but her eyes betrayed a hint of rebellion. She turned and left, but little did anyone know that she had already set her plan in motion.
The next step she would take would shatter the very foundations of their lives, destroying everything they held dear.
The one who is trying to help will unfortunately will suffer the most.
"The presentation was excellent, Mr. Rathore. I would love to confirm this deal," the French CEO of the company spoke, his eyes gleaming with excitement. I poked my cheek with my tongue, a sly smile spreading across my face. "Okay, 70 mine, 30 yours," I said, my voice dripping with confidence.
The CEO's eyes widened in confusion. "Sorry?" he questioned, his voice laced with uncertainty.
"I said 70 percent of the profit will be mine, and 30 percent yours," I repeated, my gaze piercing through him. The CEO's mouth opened in shock, his face pale.
"What?" he exclaimed, rising from his seat, his eyes fixed on me in dismay. I rubbed my eyebrow, my expression calm, but my eyes flashing with intensity.
"Sit down, Mr. Cauroz," I said, my voice firm but controlled. The CEO gulped, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down, and slowly sat back down.
"The deal was about to be finalized four days ago, but your late response made my people suffer," I said, my voice cold, detached. "Now, in return, you'll provide me with 70 percent of the profit, or you can leave. The choice is yours."
The CEO nodded hastily, his eyes darting around the room. "Okay, accepted," he said, extending his hand for a handshake. I shook it firmly, my grip crushing.
As the CEO left, I picked up my coat and followed him out of the VIP room. I instructed my driver to take me to the airport. It's almost evening, and I will reach India before her birthday starts.
Yeah, the deal was about to be finalized four days ago, but due to their late timing, they fixed the meeting for today. For which they had to pay.
But what's clenching my heart is I couldn't talk to her in these six days because of my busy schedule. The presentation we made before was wasted because the manager of this French company said, "It's not our standard."
So I had to prepare this presentation day and night to prove what actually is our type, and I did, but this cost my biwi's sadness.
I'm sure she must have cried that day when I said, "I'll call you later," because the hotel room I was staying in, the whole hotel was trapped by the police. Some Russian mafias had sneaked in, and in the chaos, I changed my hotel location and after that, I was busy as hell.
This is not an excuse, but the truth.
Suddenly, the car screeched to a halt, jolting me out of my thoughts. "Why did you stop?" I asked, still distracted by my phone. "Sir, there's a car blocking our way," the driver replied.
I looked up, gazing out the window through the mirror, and saw a black car standing in our way.
The back headlight was flashing a red light, and I felt a surge of irritation. I opened the door and stepped out, striding towards the car.
There was a man sitting in the driver's seat, his face covered with a black mask, and he was talking on the phone.
The window was open, so i spoke "Excuse me" he glanced at me with an intense gaze. "Clear the way, I've to go"
I've seen those eyes somewhere, but where?
The man nodded and drove off, clearing the way. I returned to my car, instructing the driver to proceed. As we drove, my mind wandered back to the mysterious man and his piercing gaze.
Suddenly, my gaze fell upon a small card placed on the seat. I picked it up, wondering where it had come from. It wasn't here before, so how did it appear now?
I examined the card carefully, and my eyes widened as I read the bold message: "the game begins now..."
Just then, my phone rang, breaking the silence. My PA's name flashed on the screen, and I threw the card aside, picking up the call.
India...
The car came to a stop in front of the Rathore mansion, and I stepped out with a wide smile, eager to surprise my biwi. It was almost 11:30, and I couldn't wait to see the look on her face.
As I entered the mansion, I heard giggling voices coming from the kitchen. I walked towards the kitchen, curiosity getting the better of me. That's when I saw Siya, yash and Shreya sitting on the kitchen lab, while Mahi and Reyansh stood beside them, chatting and laughing.
My gaze fell upon the mess in the kitchen, and my eyes landed on the oven, where a cake was baking. So, they're planning to surprise biwi at 12.
My family caught sight of me, and Siya exclaimed, "Bhai!" They walked towards me, smiling, and we chatted for a few minutes about the situation I had been stuck in. They nodded in understanding.
As the cake was ready, Mahi was about to decorate it, but I stopped her. "Let me do it," I insisted, and she nodded. I decorated the cake with white whipped cream, blueberries, and strawberries on top, with a blue cream message that read, "Happiest birthday, cutie."
I smiled, looking at the cake, feeling a sense of pride and love for my biwi. Siya teased, "Kuch mahine pehle tak kitchen mein kadam bhi na rakhne wala shaqs aaj apni biwi ke liye cake decorate karre, wah re bhabhi ji maan gaye aapki."
Everyone laughed, and I glared at Siya, who stopped laughing immediately.
I checked my wristwatch; it was 11:50. Mahi asked me to join them to celebrate, but I declined._I know that if I go in front of her, she'll start crying, and I don't want her to cry while cutting her cake.
So, I made them understand that I would be present, but not in front of her. They agreed, and I explained that I wanted to wish her first, and then they could join in. We walked upstairs, and I entered the dark room, while they stood outside.
I could see her sleeping figure in the moonlight, and a smile formed on my lips as I gazed at her peaceful face.
I checked the time; it was 11:59. As the clock struck 12, I bent down and gently pecked her cheeks.
"Happiest birthday biwi" I whispered, my heart overflowing with love.
