Chapter Six

"Reva kon hai? Apko kyu chahiye?"

✧ P R E E T ✧

"There's only one bed."

What kind of problem is this now? There's no way I'm going to take the couch in the drawing room. The floor's never an option here because of the cold.

"It's obvious. You're going to take the couch." I gasped at his words.

"No. I'm taking the bed." I argued back. He glanced at me nonchalantly without blinking. After a few moments, he asked.

"Why is that so?"

"I'm your wife-" I kept a hand on my waist like a typical Indian Aunty while saying that.

"Fake wife." He cut me off and mirrored my exact position while looking at me with a deceitful smile. I glared at him for this childishness.

"Because as per what I know we aren't married. I offered you, but you didn't reply now face the consequences." He added and it made me roll my eyes. Oh please, it was out of his habit of flirting.

And I can't understand why is he suddenly flirting with me. The excuse I convince myself from is that it's all because of the act I pulled and now he's having some fun.

Or else he wouldn't flirt with me in these years. We may have met only three times but he was pretty decent, he'd have fun with Ananya Bhabhi, and irritate the hell out of Sahil Bhai making him jealous.

I must agree with the fact that he was always this fun to be around. He's very jolly and chills most of the time.

"But I'm a girl." I looked at him with puppy eyes thinking maybe that would work. Maybe he would give me the bed.

"So?" He questioned and my face fell.

"Can you not adjust on the couch?" He shook his head.

"Of course not. How is my huge body going to fit on that small couch? I'll not fit and if I do, it'll be miserable." Considerable. Even I can't imagine him sleeping on the couch.

"What are we going to do?" I questioned.

"You have to figure it out. I'm not moving an inch from my regular place. I'm sorry." He raised his hands in the air.

People on this earth are so unkind and cruel.

The bed is huge enough to fit two people in it. It's not like I don't trust him, but rather I don't trust myself. I'm not in my senses when I'm asleep, I mean who is, but the point is I'd kick the person or stick like a bee to them or whatnot.

That is why I rarely share beds with people. It depends on my dream, if it's an action genre you're going to get kicked and if it's a cute rom-com then you are gone for good.

"If you want,-" I cut him off already knowing what he would suggest.

"No." He made a face and muttered something under his breath.

Something like an idiot.

"I'll take the couch," I said my voice full of pain and sorrow. This man paid no attention to pain and walked back to the kitchen. I followed him back to the kitchen because I particularly had no work to do.

"Whatever suits you then." He replied an eternity later. Maybe he has a chit-chat with himself like I do.

"We need to set some ground rules," I said climbing the kitchen slab again picking up the rolling pin and checking it out.

"You're making Indian food?" I asked excitedly my face lit up. It's been a very long time since I ate it. Neava and I tried to make it once but ended up with a burnt roti. I should have learnt how to cook food when my mother was willing to teach me.

"No. Chinese." He replied sarcastically.

"Essi belan se marungi zyada sarcasm use kiya toh mere samne." I warned while showing him the rolling pin.

[I'll hit you from this rolling pin if you become extra sarcastic in front of me.]

Sidha sidha, khushi khushi, saval pucha tha usme bhi ulta reply.

[I asked him a simple question, happily and he had to give a reply like that.]

"Edhar maro." He showed his left cheek to me while saying that in a sweet voice. I rolled my eyes at this flirt

[Hit me here.]

Main toh mar bhi du but fir khana kon banayega?

"Since when did you start flirting with me?" I asked him raising my eyebrows and swaying my legs in the air.

Benefits of being short-sighted.

"Since the moment you became my wifey." He shrugged and snatched the rolling pin from me. Applying a little dry flour to the dough it started rolling it.

"Do you know how to cook?" He asked and I nodded.

"Yes. On the set." I flipped back my hair at my wonderful comeback. He paused his work for a second and glanced at me with an open mouth.

"Not gonna lie, that was a nice one." He remarked and got back to cooking. "You are pursuing filmmaking, right?"

"Yes. Masters in direction and screenplay." I replied and he nodded.

"That's something unique." I've heard this a lot. Not that I'm complaining but one out of ten students would probably pick this if we go ratio-wise.

And anyway I'm very proud of it as well. I love cinema a lot. It strives for something inside me and makes me feel life is lovely. Those three hours of a movie are an escape from this dreadful reality.

I was never a book person, to be honest. I'd rather watch the movie or binge watching a whole series but books were always too boring for me.

"Do you know someone who makes fake marriage certificates?" I asked breaking the silence a while later.

"Kitne confidence mei jhoot bola tha Aniketh ko. I'll show you the marriage certificate." He mimicked the last sentence in an irritating voice and I hit his bicep.

[You lied with such confidence to Aniketh.]

Nice excuse to touch it.

"Stop hitting me." He said.

"You stop hitting on me."

Comeback queen.

"Not happening, wifey." He flashed a cute smile for a second or so.

"Do you know someone like that?" I asked and he nodded.

"I'll get it done."

"So you're into illegal stuff as well. Never mind, you look like someone who could do that." The side eyes he's giving me are wild. And funny, as hell.

"I could be a murderer as well. You never know you can be my next target." With that, he gave a cold death stare looking directly into my eyes trying to prove his point by his third-class acting. All I could do was roll my eyes.

"Nah. Usme scope nahi dikh raha aapka." I replied.

[I don't see scope in that for you.]

"What do you mean?"

"Imagine karo murder karte karte hasne lage aap? Acha thodi lagega. Murderer ki izzat nahi dubani hume."  I chuckled by the end of it. The mere image of him killing someone is funny to me.

[Just imagine if you started laughing while murdering someone. We don't want the murderers' reputations to go down.]

"Aur fir aap agar nervous hogaye police ke samne toh? Kuch bhi bolte ho jab nervous ho jate ho tab." I added when I remembered the first day we met.

[And what if you get nervous in front of the police? You speak anything when you get nervous.]

She's my husband.

"Reva do, Reva do."  I failed to understand the meaning of the words he spoke.

[Leave it, Leave it. (In Gujarati)]

"Reva kon hai? Apko kyu chahiye?"  I scratched my head while asking and he burst out laughing. A light shade of red spread across his ear and his dimples caught my attention.

"Reva do means leave it in Gujarati." He said and I passed an impressive look.

"Oh. Reva do. Cute term."

"Yes. Now let's have dinner." He said and I jumped excitedly from the counter, brushing my hands against each other.

"I'll get everything to the dining table. You've already been a good man and made it for me as well. Let me do the honours." I grabbed the casserole from his hand.

"Good hubby." He nudged me and I nodded with a sarcastic smile on my face.

"Whatever helps you to sleep at night." I walked into the drawing room where a small dining table was placed in the corner.

That was followed by both of us getting things to the dining table, even after I asked him not to he wanted to help. We had our dinner while watching old episodes of Tarak Mehta ka Ulta Chasma because without that I certainly can not digest my food.

After cleaning up the mess of the kitchen, we got into our respective works. I had to go through the script of our short film while he was tak-taking his laptop keys way too hard.

Stop it, bro.

I decided to just ignore the sound and got engrossed in my work. There were too many mistakes in the script. Who the hell cross-checked it the first time?

Connor.

Never mind, it's okay. Why am I here? I'll edit it again.

I wished to laugh at my hypocrisy but I'm just a girl.

An hour or so flew by and I was a yawning mess by this time. Every time I yawned, Deven repeated it making me yawn again.

"Ugh. I should just sleep now." I said and yawned again. He turned his face in another direction and closed his eyes not wanting to hear or see me yawning.

"You definitely should." He replied and I went towards him, raised my palm in the air for a hi-fi and it took him a whole minute to understand and hi-fi me back.

These old people, I tell you.

"Good night, Housemate. These few first hours were nice, let's see what the day has in store for us." I remarked and he just passed a quick nod.

"Night, wifey."

I picked up a pillow from the bed and my favourite blanket from my suitcase. I went to the dining room and adjusted myself on the couch with a sullen face.

I guess we have to be besties for a while.

"Wifey," Deven shouted from the bedroom and I walked back to the room like an alien.

"I have a name." I quoted and he successfully ignored me.

"Sleep here. I'll take the couch." I frowned at his statement. Although this sounds like a tempting offer I'm sure he would have to squeeze himself to adjust on the couch. And I do not prefer that.

"Why this sudden change of mind?" I asked him and he just shrugged.

"How can I let my wifey-" he started his basic ass flirt but I interrupted him upon hearing the word wifey itself.

"Shut up. And no, I'll adjust there." I replied.

"I'm going to work most of the night anyway. You should just sleep here. I'll settle in the dining room." I knew he was lying. His face told that he was tired and sleep-deprived for a while.

"Don't lie. I'll be comfortable on the couch, don't worry." I replied.

"You sure?" I just nodded.

"Yes. Good night. Sleep early, you'll look like a racoon or else." I said and turned around to go back to my bed.

"Yes ma'am. Good night. Sleep tight. And if you're uncomfortable there let me know, I'll shift there." I showed him a thumbs up through my shoulder and laid on the couch.

I hope I get some good sleep tonight.
