The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky in shades of gold and pink. The group had just finished another team activity and was given some free time before dinner. It didn’t take long for chaos to ensue.

“Look over there!” Venti exclaimed dramatically, pointing toward the edge of the forest where an old, abandoned cabin stood in the shadows of the trees. Its wooden frame was weathered, the windows cracked, and an eerie vibe surrounded it.

Albedo adjusted his glasses, a gleam of curiosity sparking in his eyes. “Interesting… It seems structurally unstable, but the architecture suggests it might date back a few decades.”

Amber’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Ooh! Adventure time!”

“Nope.” Ayaka immediately shook her head, clutching Kazuha’s sleeve. “We’re not supposed to wander off the campsite.”

Kazuha nodded in agreement. “The coach explicitly said not to stray too far.”

Lumine raised a brow. “I’m with Ayaka and Kazuha on this one. That place looks like it’s falling apart.”

But Venti was already grinning like a devilish gremlin. “C’mon, what’s the worst that could happen? A ghost popping out? Ooooh~” he teased, wiggling his fingers.

Amber clapped her hands. “Exactly! It’ll be fun!”

“Peer pressure!” Venti declared, grabbing Lumine’s arm. “Come on, Lumi! Don’t let the party die!”

“No, Venti—” Lumine protested, but Albedo was already walking ahead, his scientific curiosity overpowering his common sense.

“Alright, let’s settle this.” Venti smirked, crossing his arms. “If you don’t come willingly, I’ll just… DRAG YOU!”

Before Lumine could react, Venti grabbed her arm while Amber and Albedo followed eagerly.

“Wait, guys—” Kazuha started, but Venti waved a dismissive hand.

“No time for cowards, my poetic friend!”

The Cabin

The cabin stood crookedly under the dimming light, the shadows of the trees looming over it like skeletal fingers. The wooden porch creaked with every step they took.

“Okay, I’ve changed my mind,” Amber whispered, clutching Albedo’s sleeve. “This feels like the start of a horror movie.”

“Too late for regrets!” Venti chimed, pulling Lumine closer to the entrance.

“Guys, this isn’t a good idea,” Lumine muttered, glancing back nervously. Kazuha and Ayaka were trailing behind them hesitantly.

“Stand back, everyone,” Albedo said calmly, stepping up to the door. Without hesitation, he lifted his foot and delivered a powerful kick to the wooden door.

BANG!

The door creaked open, swinging inward with an ominous groan. Dust and stale air spilled out from the cabin’s dark interior.

“Alright! Let’s go!” Venti said cheerfully, grabbing Lumine’s wrist again and pulling her forward.

But just as Lumine’s foot was about to cross the threshold—

THUD.

A blur of black and violet leaped from Lumine’s shoulder, landing in front of her.

The group froze.

Scaramouche stood there, his violet eyes sharp and glowing faintly in the low light. His arms crossed over his chest, and his signature smug smirk was plastered on his face.

“Not so fast,” he said coolly.

Amber’s jaw dropped. “W-Wait… Kuni?! You’re—”

Venti stumbled backward, pointing dramatically. “THE CAT IS A HUMAN?!”

Kazuha’s calm facade cracked, his eyes widening slightly. “Scaramouche…?”

Albedo stared, his analytical brain temporarily short-circuiting. “Fascinating… a shape-shifter, perhaps?”

Ayaka covered her mouth with both hands, her eyes wide with disbelief.

Lumine stood frozen in place. “K-Kuni… why now?!”

Scaramouche clicked his tongue, looking over his shoulder at Lumine. “You really thought I’d let this bunch of idiots drag you into some unstable death trap without me?”

Venti was still gaping. “Hold on, hold on. Pause. Time out. Rewind. Are we just going to skip over the fact that this CAT is actually a sarcastic, smug HUMAN?!”

Amber’s eyes sparkled. “This is like some kind of… magical romance anime plot!”

“Absolutely not!” Lumine and Scaramouche said in unison.

Albedo adjusted his glasses, his eyes glinting with interest. “Scaramouche, was it? Care to explain how—”

“Not now, Einstein,” Scaramouche interrupted sharply, turning his attention back to the group. “You’re all going back to camp. Now.”

Venti folded his arms stubbornly. “And who put you in charge, Mister Mystery Cat Man?”

Scaramouche smirked darkly. “The fact that I’m the only one here with common sense should be enough.”

Amber tugged at Lumine’s sleeve. “Lumine… is he always this bossy?!”

Lumine sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “You have no idea.”

Scaramouche stepped closer to Lumine, leaning slightly into her space. “Are you coming willingly, or do I have to carry you back?”

Lumine’s face turned pink. “Okay, okay! We’re going!”

Amber pouted. “Aw, but we didn’t even get to explore!”

Venti raised his hand. “Yeah, I vote we still go inside!”

Before anyone could move, there was a loud creak from within the cabin, followed by a chilling gust of wind that blew out the light from Amber’s flashlight.

“…Nope. Nope nope nope,” Amber said, spinning on her heel and walking back to the camp. “I’m done.”

“Wise choice,” Scaramouche muttered.

Back at Camp

The group made it back safely, though Amber and Venti were still sulking about their missed adventure.

“Y’know, Lumi,” Venti said with a mischievous grin, “your cat is kind of hot.”

“Venti!” Lumine exclaimed, her face flushing.

Scaramouche, now back in his cat form perched on Lumine’s shoulder, flicked his tail and shot Venti a deadly glare.

Kazuha approached Lumine with a soft smile. “Are you alright?”

Lumine nodded. “Yeah… thanks, Kazuha.”

Scaramouche’s tail twitched again, and his violet eyes glinted with irritation.

Amber sat down by the campfire, a sly grin on her face. “Sooo… Lumi, care to explain how you’ve been hiding him from us this whole time?”

Lumine sighed, plopping down next to them. “It’s… complicated.”

Venti threw an arm around her shoulders. “Well, one thing’s for sure—our camping trip just got a lot more interesting!”

In the shadows, Scaramouche’s eyes glinted as he watched the group interact. His jealousy wasn’t gone, but for now, he was content to stay close to Lumine.
