The same day:
Kenna's POV
Once we walked out of the hospital, I had to immediately cover my face.
The sun shone brightly even though it was slowly setting in the west.
I was in the hospital for almost two weeks. I hadn't seen the daylight all along.
My only source of light were the bulbs and tube lights inside the hospital. The large windows in my room were mostly covered by blinds during the day.
Tyler now slowly moves my hands away from my face, and I squint against the brightness.
Once my eyes have adjusted to the sunlight, Tyler entwines our hands and begins walking in search of his car.
He stops in front of a car, and not just any car, but a sapphire Jaguar F-Type.
My mouth falls wide open, leaving enough space for the entire car to get inside.
This gorgeous boy owns a gorgeous car.
Tyler begins laughing while looking at my silly expression.
I mean, I don't know what I was expecting, but I'm a little too surprised.
"Get used to looking at this baby more often," he winks at me.
"Yeah," I blush, only making him smirk.
Tyler leads me to the passenger seat, opens the door for me, and closes it once I get in.
Such a gentleman.
He gets to the driver's seat and says, "Kenny, don't forget your seatbelt. Your safety first."
My heart skips a beat at his words.
Tyler watches as I buckle my seatbelt and does his once I'm done.
"Okay, you must be super rich," I scoff, looking at the interiors of his fancy car.
"Perks of being the head of the department. I get paid well," he winks at me.
That's pretty obvious.
I nod, deep in thought.
I wish I was the head of some department too.
"Okay, now I'm going to have to blindfold you," he says, breaking me out of my thoughts and taking a thick, black ribbon out of his pocket.
"Um, I don't like this idea," I say, clearly uneasy.
"Please?" he says, worried that I'll ruin his surprise.
"No, Tyler. Blindfolds freak me out," I say, and he smiles.
"Okay, Kenny, let's not force you."
I'm filled with instant relief.
Tyler and I drove out of the Travenford campus and are now on the road.
He drives well, not dangerously fast like people who hurry to reach God knows where.
We were driving on a familiar road.
I wasn't sure where it led yet.
We keep driving for maybe twenty more minutes, making small talk along the way.
Tyler would occasionally hold my hand for a few seconds, only to let go and adjust his grip on the wheel when the trucks were in the same lane as us.
Stupid trucks kept disturbing us.
.
.
We pulled into a very familiar scenario.
Tyler gets out and walks towards the passenger seat to open my door for me.
I smile at the beautiful scenario before my eyes because we've arrived at a beach.
I've always liked beaches. They've made me feel calm and peaceful, making me realize that there's hope at the end of the horizon.
"Let's go," Tyler says, linking our hands again.
As I walk, I get sympathetic stares from people around me.
Oops, I forgot about my bald head.
I pull on my hoodie with my free hand in an attempt to cover my head and succeed.
Tyler pulls down my hoodie, exposing my bare head.
"I want people to know that I'm with the most beautiful girl on this planet," he says, flashing his gorgeous smile.
Tyler Hart stole my heart at this very moment.
I smiled at what he said. He did know how to make someone feel special.
Correction: He did know how to make me feel special.
I kept getting plenty of stares from people as we passed by.
Tyler led me to a secluded area of the beach that had plenty of boulders.
I noticed the tiny table and two chairs, beautifully decorated in lovely satin. There was also a carpet so our feet wouldn't get messed up with the sand.
Tyler ushered me to sit as he pulled out the chair for me and sat in his own.
On the table were a large jar of what looks like fruit punch and a pair of glasses, a set of plates and cutlery with napkins, a beautiful bouquet of baby pink and white roses, and a basket that probably contained food.
The view from here was perfect as the sun slowly set on the horizon.
Tyler looks into the distance and smiles as he watches the sun set.
I smile as I watch his smile widen.
He soon realizes this and turns my way, "Okay, a little fruit punch won't hurt. It's non-alcoholic, by the way," he says as he pours some for us.
We clink our glasses, and I sip my drink.
It was pure bliss. The liquid slowly crawled down my throat as it left a sweet taste in my mouth.
Tyler opens the basket to reveal some lovely spaghetti and meat balls.
I was drooling over Tyler and the food by now.
Tyler serves us some.
"I hope you like it, Kenny," he says nervously.
"Wait, did you cook this?" I ask, sensing his nervousness.
"Well, yeah. I didn't want you to know. I mean, I don't want you to say it's good just because I made it, but then you know how to get things out of me," he says the last bit with a smirk.
"Guilty as charged," I say, and we both laugh.
I dig my fork into my served portion of spaghetti and cut a piece of meat as I prepare to taste some.
As soon as I take a bite, I feel like I'm at some fancy restaurant.
I mean, it tastes so good!
"Tyler, this is amazing," I say as I take another bite, letting a moan escape my lips.
"Glad you like it, Kenny," he says, and for a fraction, I feel his eyes on my lips.
As time passed, Tyler and I talked about things we had never talked about.
About things we didn't like and the reasons. We kept criticizing them and laughing like kids.
In this moment, I felt alive.
Tyler's silly jokes and weird faces when he'd say something with disgust. The way he looks at me when I laugh. The way he takes care of me.
It made me realize that I was falling for him faster than I'd ever admit.
.
.
Tyler and I clicked many pictures, striking different poses. Tyler's arm around me, my arm around him, him standing behind me and holding me close to his chestâthe last one was a surprise to me.
Tyler kissed me on the cheek as I clicked the last picture.
I blushed at this, and he grinned.
We feel like teenagers right now. I didn't want this moment to end.
But all good things come to an end.
.
.
The drive back to Travenford was good.
Tyler took the longest route to Travenford so that we'd have some more time together.
"I hope you liked my little surprise, Kenny," he says, kissing the back of my palm and lacing our fingers together.
"Like it? I loved it, Tyler," I say, beaming.
I really did love it. It was so beautiful.
"Okay, I see that the first date was a success. Does that mean that I can go out on more dates with you?" he turns toward me as we stop at a red signal.
"Of course. I'd love to," I squeal even before I can process what he just said.
"Great, that's great," he grins, kissing the back of my palm again.
.
.
Once back in the hospital, Tyler walks me to my room.
"Good night, my pretty girl. I'll see you tomorrow, and don't forget to send me the pictures we clicked today," he says as he lets go of our linked hands.
"Yes, good night," I smile.
"Thanks Tyler. For everything," I continue, when he keeps looking into my eyes.
"I need to thank you for going out with me," he says with a genuine smile.
He leans in, and I close my eyes.
I expect him to kiss me, but he just kisses my cheek and smirks at me before walking away.
That sneaky little shit.
I swing the door open and find mom and Danica stuffing their faces with pizza.
"Oh, hi Kenny," mom says with a mouthful of food.
Danica nods at me, and I laugh.
"Details," Danica says while stuffing another slice of pizza into her already full mouth.
.
.
As I fill them in on the details, mom and Danica aww and ooh at our date.
I also showed them the pictures we clicked once they finished their pizza.
I get changed into my hospital gown while they clean up my room.
I send our pictures to Tyler and think about our date as I feel the sleep kicking in.
With his sweet thoughts, I drift off into a peaceful sleep.
