Elara awoke to the sound of chirping Flutterwing Beetles and the gentle rustling of Whisperwood leaves. The air was crisp and cool, the sky a pale, pearlescent blue. She stretched, her muscles sore from the previous dayâs unexpected combat, and exited her tent.
âAlright, time to explore,â she muttered, summoning a small, multi-tool from her pocket dimension. It wasnât quite a sword, but it would have to do for now.
She began to navigate the glade, her âIdentifyâ ability constantly scanning her surroundings. The flora and fauna of Aerthos were fascinating, a mix of the familiar and the utterly alien. She noted various plants and insects, cataloging their properties and potential alchemical uses.
As she ventured deeper into the surrounding forest, the trees grew taller, their branches intertwining to form a dense canopy that filtered the sunlight into dappled patterns. The air grew cooler, and the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves filled her nostrils.
Suddenly, a faint sound reached her ears â a soft, melodic humming. She paused, activating âIdentifyâ to scan for any nearby creatures.
[Source of Humming: Sylvani Nymph (Peaceful)]
[Level: 8]
[Description: A gentle spirit of the forest, known for its enchanting melodies.]
âLevel 8?â Elara muttered, âA bit out of my league, but peaceful is good.â
She cautiously approached the source of the humming, pushing aside the thick undergrowth. A clearing opened up before her, revealing a small, ethereal figure sitting on a moss-covered rock. The Sylvani Nymph was a delicate creature, with pale, translucent skin and wings that shimmered like moonlight. Her long, flowing hair was woven with leaves and flowers, and her eyes, large and luminous, held an ancient wisdom.
The Nymph paused her humming, turning her gaze towards Elara. A soft, gentle smile spread across her face.
âGreetings, traveler,â she said, her voice like the tinkling of wind chimes. âYou are new to these woods.â
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
âYeah, you could say that,â Elara replied, âIâm Elara. And you are?â
âI am Lyra,â the Nymph said, âa guardian of this forest.â
Elara, always curious, couldn't help but ask, "So, guardian, any tips for a newbie dimensional anomaly?"
Lyra's eyes twinkled. "Dimensional anomaly? A rare visitor indeed. As for tips, respect the balance of the forest, and it will respect you. And learn to listen to the whispers of the wildwood, for they hold many secrets."
âWhispers, got it,â Elara said, âAnything else I should know? Dangerous creatures, hidden treasures, good coffee shops?â
Lyra chuckled. âThere are many creatures, both dangerous and benign. As for treasures, they are often found in the most unexpected places. And coffee⦠I fear that is a luxury this forest does not provide.â
"Figures," Elara sighed.
Lyra then tilted her head, and her expression became more serious. "The forest feels⦠disturbed. A darkness stirs in the northern reaches, a corruption that threatens the balance of all things."
âDarkness? Corruption?â Elara raised an eyebrow. âSounds like a server crash on a cosmic scale.â
Lyra nodded. âIt is a threat that must be addressed. But I fear I cannot leave my duties here. Perhaps⦠you could investigate?â
âMe?â Elara pointed to herself. âIâm barely level 2. Isnât that a job for, like, a level 50 paladin or something?â
âYou have abilities that are unique, traveler,â Lyra said, âand a determination that shines brightly. I believe you can make a difference.â
Elara hesitated. She wasnât exactly a hero type. But the idea of a âcosmic server crashâ intrigued her. And, well, she didnât exactly have anything else to do.
âAlright, fine,â she said, âIâll check it out. But if I run into any level 50 paladins, Iâm blaming you.â
Lyra smiled. âThank you, Elara. The forest will guide you.â
Elara summoned her multi-tool, checking its various functions. âAlright, north it is. Any idea what Iâm looking for? Corrupted trees? Evil squirrels?â
âYou will know it when you see it,â Lyra said. âTrust your instincts.â
Elara nodded, then turned and headed north, following a faint trail that seemed to lead deeper into the forest. As she walked, she activated "Identify" repeatedly, cataloging the various plants and creatures she encountered.
Suddenly, a rustling sound from the nearby bushes caught her attention. She paused, summoning her energy sword. Two pairs of glowing red eyes peered out from the shadows.
[Forest Dire Wolves (Aggressive)]
[Level: 10]
âLevel 10? Seriously?â Elara muttered. âLyra, you owe me big time.â
