Chapter 1004:
âYouâ¦â Eileen hesitated, realizing he was trying to trick her. She quickly recovered, replying, âYouâre my husband. Naturally, you have to support me, no questions asked.â
âEnough. Just wait for me at the VQ Group,â Bryan interjected, impatience creeping into his voice.
Eileen sighed, realizing Bryan wouldnât be back at the company anytime soon. Since she was already in the city, she decided to visit Dalores at the hospital.
Dalores had been using the credit card Eileen had given her and no longer worked at the educational organization. Now, she devoted all her energy to caring for Emerson.
When Eileen arrived, she found Dalores reading a story to Emerson. The ward had nearly become a home for Emerson, complete with a temporary bookshelf beside his bed.
Dalores looked up, surprise flickering across her face. âEileen, why didnât you tell me you were coming?â Her eyes fell on the items in Eileenâs hands, and she frowned. âIâve told you thereâs no need for you to buy things for us.â
Eileen set the tonics and a toy on the bed, watching as Emerson eagerly pounced on the new plaything. âThese arenât just for you,â Eileen said, sitting beside the bed. âHow are things going? Are you pregnant?â
The smile on Daloresâ face faltered, replaced by a look of sadness. âNo, I havenât seen Julio in a while.â
Eileenâs brow furrowed. âWhy? Has he left?â
But from what she knew, the project that the Ferguson Group was working on wasnât stable yet, making it unlikely that Julio would just leave.

He says heâs swamped with work and hasnât been home for days.â Dalores hadnât seen Julio recently, so she had let the caregiver go and focused on taking care of Emerson herself, not going to Julioâs place. Her period was due in a couple of days. She would wait and see. If she wasnât pregnant, she would need to come up with a new plan.
âHave you had lunch? I can grab something for you if you want,â Dalores said, trying to change the subject.
âNo, Iâm not hungry. I need to head back to the office later. Donât trouble yourself; Iâll just spend some time with Emerson for a bit,â Eileen replied.
Emerson didnât know Eileen well, but he seemed to enjoy her company, perhaps because the only people he usually saw were the doctors and nurses.
In his excitement, Emerson accidentally knocked over a bottle of brown liquid medicine on the bedside table. The air quickly filled with a fishy odor, making Eileen gag. She covered her mouth and rushed out of the ward, heading for the trash can in the corridor. She retched for a long time but couldnât spit out anything.
Dalores emerged, carrying Emerson. She found Eileen leaning weakly against the wall.
âWhatâs wrong?â Dalores asked.
âI just donât feel good in my stomach,â Eileen muttered. âIâve been so busy lately; my eating habits are all over the place.â
Dalores eyed her skeptically. âAre you sure? This reminds me of when I had morning sickness. Could you be pregnant?â
âNo, definitely not,â Eileen replied quickly. âIâm sure of it.â Even though Bryan had been having sex with her often, they were always careful, taking precautions as she insisted.
