Chapter 1021:
Dalores immediately shook her head. âNo, Iâm fine. I donât need to be examined.â
âIâm afraid that decision is not yours to make. You need to make sure that youâre in good health, Dalores. Not only physically, but mentally as well. Do it for Emerson.â Eileen spoke in a tone that brooked no argument. âThe caregiver will bring you your lunch later. You should eat with Emerson. Iâll be back to keep you company during your check-up this afternoon.â
Bryan had already booked a table at a nearby restaurant. After giving the caregiver a few reminders, Eileen grabbed her purse and left the hospital.
The restaurant was crowded, but there was one particular patron who stood out. It was a man sitting at a table by the windows on the second floor.
Eileen walked up the stairs and pulled the chair across from him. She hadnât even sat down when Bryan handed her a fork.
âItâs getting cold,â he said.
Eileen settled into her seat and began to eat. âWhat if the results of Daloresâ check-up arenât any good?â she said after a while. âWhat should I tell Julio?â
Bryan didnât even raise his head. âYou arenât beholden to him in any way. You can just relay the whole thing to him. Why are you so worried?â
Eileen nodded in relief. âYouâre right.â
Eileenâs doctor had advised her to steer clear of stress, as it would only worsen her stomachâs condition. Bryan was doing his part by easing her burdens as much as he could and trying to lighten her mood.
Leyla had been complaining about Gabriela. Apparently, the girl was missing her parents so much that she refused to go inside. Instead, she dragged Leyla to sit in the yard and bask in the sun all day long.
âIâm telling you, Iâve got sunburn now!â Leyla grumbled in her voice message to Eileen.
Eileen couldnât help but laugh when she heard this. She carefully composed a reply and failed to notice a familiar figure standing in a corner not too far away.
Yesterday, Jaliyah had mentioned to Kamila that she had spotted Eileen at the hospital.
Kamila returned upstairs and spent a good deal of time thinking. The next morning, she called Jaliyah and instructed her to go back to the hospital, track down Eileenâs doctor, and figure out a way to make Eileen lose the baby.
Jaliyah had a lunch appointment with a gynecologist she knew. She accidentally ran into both Eileen and Bryan while having lunch.
She barely had a chance to touch her food as her attention was glued to Eileen. Watching her closely, Jaliyah noticed how Eileen kept looking queasy, fighting the urge to vomitâexactly the way she had behaved when she had been pregnant before.
âIsnât it obvious sheâs pregnant? What more do I need to confirm?â Jaliyah muttered to herself, quickly snapping two photos. Suddenly, she felt a hand on her shoulder, causing her to jump in surprise.
She turned to see the doctor approaching and sighed in relief. âMiranda, you nearly gave me a heart attack. Tell me, has this woman made an appointment in your department?â
Miranda Wagner glanced at the photo, first shaking her head, then nodding. âNo, sheâs not my patient, but she has been to the obstetrics and gynecology department. Just today, I saw her lugging a bunch of things up to the VIP suite on the top floor. I tried asking the department head about it, but he was tight-lipped. It seems thereâs an order from higher up, and everyone in the know is keeping everything under wraps.â
