Bryan glanced at Jessica and then asked the old man casually, “So, is she actually pregnant?”

“Pregnant?” The old man frowned, clearly puzzled. “She’s so weak right now that it’s impossible for her to be pregnant. She would need several months of rest before she could even think about getting pregnant.”

Unseen by others, Eileen gave Bryan a subtle nudge and cast a meaningful glance his way.

She was actually more fragile than expected.

Bryan held her hand and asked the old man, “Can you advise us on what we should focus on given her current condition? What might be causing her health issues?”

“It seems she must have given birth previously. Since then, she hasn’t been able to restore her health properly due to a lack of nutrition. She doesn’t need anything special—just a proper diet and rest should suffice. If you want a quicker recovery, I can prescribe some medicine to help her,” the old man said while stroking his beard.

Bryan was skeptical, as the old man was a stranger to him. He turned to Leyla for confirmation.

Leyla gave a slight nod and said, “He comes from a reputable family. His family has been working in the medical field for a long time.” Then, she turned to the old man. “I’ll arrange for someone to pick up the prescription from your home. Thank you, Sir.”

The old man nodded and offered a warm smile. However, before he could respond further, Jessica shoved him and snapped, “Are you really a doctor? Can’t you see she’s pregnant?”

The crowd turned their disapproving eyes toward Jessica, who now appeared somewhat flustered. Jessica scanned the room and pointed at someone accusingly. “I don’t buy it. Jaliyah told me directly that she saw you at the hospital’s gynecology and obstetrics department.”

Jaliyah, standing on the outskirts of the crowd, felt a growing sense of unease. Jessica’s accusations made her feel as if her throat was being squeezed by an invisible force, and she struggled to keep her composure.

The intense stares from the crowd brought her back to reality. “What’s going on?” Kamila asked with concern. “What exactly did you do?”

Jaliyah quickly shook her head. “I didn’t do anything, I—”

“Come here!” Jessica demanded loudly, causing Jaliyah to tremble with fear.

Jessica always acted recklessly, without regard for the occasion. Disregarding Kamila’s warnings, Jaliyah pushed through the crowd and approached Eileen and Jessica.

“Yes, I saw you at the hospital myself. You were even admitted to the gynecology and obstetrics department. You’re trying to hide your pregnancy and get the doctor to keep it a secret. Pregnancy is supposed to be a joyful event. Why are you hiding it? You must be pregnant with someone else’s child,” Jaliyah said.

Eileen suddenly remembered the time when Jaliyah had seen her at the hospital. Had Jaliyah been certain she had been pregnant just because she had seen her there?
