Chapter 1077:
The car halted at the intersection. Bryan reached out, pulling Eileen close. âEileen, these past two days have been hell for me,â he growled through clenched teeth, emphasizing each word.
He looked weary.
He continued, âYou told me to let Christos go. If I hadnât known you better, that ungrateful request would have driven me mad.â
Eileen winced as Bryanâs fingers dug into her neck, and her tone softened. âI was afraid youâd kill him or worse. There wasnât time for me to explain.â
What Eileen had managed to say in the heat of the moment were those three firm words: âLet him go.â No explanation, no contextâjust a command that could have driven Bryan mad if he had been irrational.
Bryanâs dark eyes landed on her disheveled hair, his anger melting away. He leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss.
Suddenly, Eileen jerked back. âWait! There was someone else with Christos. I forgot to ask who helped him kidnap me.â
She craned her neck out of the window, but the helicopter was now just a speck in the distant sky. âOh no, heâs gone!â she exclaimed.
Bryan gently pulled her back. âHow did you know there was an accomplice?â
Eileenâs face fell. âSomeone visited Christos, urging him to kill me. He refused to do it, partly because he was trapped in Alverton, and partly because he couldnât do it to me.â
âNo need to elaborate on that second reason,â Bryan said, starting the engine. His voice held a sharp edge. âShould I be thanking him for not killing you?â

As the car sped toward the Vazquez Mansion, Eileen silently berated herself for forgetting to press Christos for more information.
Three hours later, the car arrived at the Vazquez Mansion.
Leyla and Gabriela were waiting at the door, seated on small stools.
As the car neared, they both stood up and started to walk over.
Eileen didnât hesitate. As soon as she stepped out of the car, she rushed toward them. She scooped Gabriela into her arms and embraced Leyla.
âGrandma, Iâm so sorry for letting you worry about me,â Eileen said.
Leylaâs eyes brimmed with tears as she patted Eileenâs back. âYouâre home safe. Thatâs all that matters.â The relief of having her granddaughter back made her feel instantly better.
Bryan got out of the car with his phone in hand. He dialed Raymond, instructing him to question Christos about the accomplice.
âOkay,â Raymond said. After a pause, he couldnât help but ask, âMr. Dawson, why did you let Christos go only to have us chase him again? Surely you donât intend to keep that promise?â
He suddenly stopped himself, realizing his mistake.
Bryanâs voice turned icy. âHave I ever broken my word, Raymond? Perhaps I should cancel your annual bonusâ¦â
âNo,â Raymond interjected quickly. âI was just curiousâ¦â
