Chapter 1112:
Thankfully, the truth had finally come out. If it had dragged on, Emersonâs condition could have worsened, and that would have weighed heavily on her conscience.
Bryan was standing at the end of the empty corridor outside the ward. When he saw Eileen emerge, he ended his phone call.
âJulio will have to answer for what happened to Dalores,â Bryan said, raising an eyebrow. âIâll help him handle it.â
Eileen was surprised. Was he really offering help, Julio? She hesitated for a moment, but she decided not to press further.
âThereâs a restaurant nearby. Iâve already made a reservation.â Bryan took Eileen by the wrist and led her into the elevator. After they finished eating, Eileen packed some food to take back for Julio.
She selected two caregivers for Emerson. By the time she finished, it was already evening.
Eileen asked one of the caregivers, âWhat kind of patients have you cared for before? Have you looked after children in the past?â This caregiver was the most experienced and had worked at the hospital for a long time. It was only after Eileen had hurriedly made her selection that she remembered to ask this question.
âThe patient Iâm currently caring for is a man who injured his hand in a car accident, but he doesnât really need much care. I explained the situation to him and requested to be assigned to a patient who needs more attention.â The caregiver smiled politely. âIâve looked after many children before.â
Eileen was pleased with her experience but then frowned and asked, âThe man you mentioned, who was injured in the car accident⦠is his last name Aston?â

The caregiver quickly nodded. âYes, thatâs Mr. Aston. Heâs been through a lot lately, especially with what happened to his wife.â
The news had spread so widely that even the caregiver was well aware of it.
âMiss Curtis, do you know Mr. Aston?â the caregiver asked.
Eileen nodded. âYes, I do. Do you know Mr. Aston?â
The caregiver hesitated, then replied, âHe doesnât seem all that upset about his wife being in prison. Maybe everything that has happened lately has just numbed him.â
Eileen didnât respond, lost in thought.
Keith and Kamila had been together for decades. With Kamila now in jail, it didnât seem possible that Keith wouldnât be affected by it.
âThe right arm is injured, and his left hand is too clumsy to manage much. It was really hard for him to eat or even use the bathroom, but he refused my help. So, I suggested a male caregiver from the nursing department for himâ¦â The caregiver continued chatting as they reached Emersonâs room.
Once inside, they noticed Emerson was already awake. So, they spent some time playing with him.
Eileen turned her head and noticed Marisa approaching, dressed casually and holding a bouquet of flowers. She quickly greeted Marisa with a smile.
Marisa acknowledged her greeting with a nod. âCould you tell me where Miss Sampson is? I came to see her.â
