Chapter 1129:
From outside the door, Jarred announced, âMr. Dawson, your grandmother requests your presence downstairs.â
With a subdued smile, Eileen averted her gaze to conceal her emotions. She then rose from the bed, lifting Gabriela, and softly said, âSweetheart, get some sleep with Mommyâ¦â
With a furrowed brow, Bryan left the room and headed downstairs, passing by Jarred, who looked awkward.
âMr. Dawson, your grandmother is set in her ways. I understand your concern about the paternity test making Ms. Curtis sad, butââ Jarred followed Bryan.
âSince youâre aware of that, thereâs no need for you to say more,â Bryan interjected. âAnd change how you address Eileen.â Hearing the term âMs. Curtisâ grated on him. He would have preferred if Jarred had simply called her Eileen.
Jarred quickly corrected himself, saying, âMy mistake, Mrs. Dawson.â
As they conversed, they arrived downstairs.
Stella was seated on the sofa, sipping coffee. Upon seeing Bryan, she promptly set down her glass and queried, âShe can soothe the child by herself, but you went upstairs with her⦠Was she worried and wanted to say something to you alone?â
âSheâs not as scheming as you think,â Bryan said, loosening his cufflinks and sitting down on the sofa. âWhat did you want to talk about?â
âGiven your demeanor, what more can I say?â Stella responded with a serious expression. âThe family bloodline is crucial. You canât be negligent. I know you fear Eileen will be angry with you, but if she gets mad, it only suggests her uneasiness about the matter. If she agrees to the paternity test without fuss, there wonât be any issues, right?â Her voice permeated the living room.

She paused and tightened her grip on the railing, puzzled and alarmed. Why was Stella insisting on a paternity test for Gabriela? Eileen pressed her lips together and gazed at Bryanâs back. Bryan faced forward with a cold expression, absorbing Stellaâs words in silence. He rubbed the space between his eyebrows but remained quiet after Stella finished speaking.
âIf you feel you canât discuss this with Eileen, I will,â Stella declared as she stood up. âAround the time Eileen became pregnant with Gabriela, she was confined in a guesthouse in the mountains with Benjamin. Whatever transpired there doesnât concern us. The Dawson family must acknowledge our own blood.â
Eileen was taken aback. It took her a moment to remember the incident when she had been taken away by Benjamin. She realized that this indeed made Gabrielaâs identity suspicious.
Yet, Eileen couldnât see Bryanâs expression from her position, and she could only hear him say, âDo you think I am unable to talk to Eileen about this?â
Eileen halted her descent after stepping down one stair. âIf not that, then why are you refusing to talk to her about this?â Stella turned to look at Bryan.
Bryanâs tone grew cold. âTo safeguard the Dawson familyâs reputation. You once aired a scandal and betrayed Eileenâs trust. She has already distanced herself from you because of that. With the issue of Gabriela now, I fear the rift between you two will only deepen.â
Stella had devoted her energy to Bryan since his childhood, so he felt more resigned by her method than angry.
