Chapter 1132:
Eileenâs curiosity was piqued, and she paused for a moment before asking, âWhat happened when he was in college?â Phoebe bit down hard on Jacobâs hand as if to punish him for silencing her. Jacob yelped in pain as Phoebe shoved him away, sending him tumbling to the floor. Phoebeâs face turned red with anger as she shouted, âWhen Bryan was in college, he was not only involved with Vivian, but also with a female teacher!â
The room fell silent, with all eyes on Phoebe. Eileenâs eyes widened in shock as she turned to stare at Bryan.
Bryan sprang to his feet, walked to the center of the room, and kicked Jacobâs buttocks.
Jacob, still rubbing his sore bottom, bellowed, âBryan, calm down! Phoebe dislikes me so much. She always says Iâm not as good as you. I told her about that to save face, to protect my image.â
Before Jacob could continue, Bryanâs hands closed around his throat, choking off his words. Jacobâs eyes darted to Eileen as he gasped, âEileen, let me explain⦠itâs not his fault. The teacher had a crush on him. Heâs charming and good-looking.â
âShut up!â Bryan barked. He didnât need Jacob to explain for him. Bryan flung Jacob aside, sending him tumbling onto the sofa.
acob quickly pulled Phoebe into a tight embrace and hissed, âDidnât you promise me you wouldnât tell anyone about that?â
âEileen and I are good friends. How can we keep secrets from each other?â Phoebe replied.
Jacobâs voice rose in anger. âBut you promised me you wouldnât tell anyone!â
Phoebe pouted and then said, âI slipped up, okay? And now we get to watch the drama unfold. What are you so afraid of?â
I/të$+ çhÃ¥ptÄrÅ¡ įñ gÃ¥ÅñøvêÅÅ.cøm Jacob lifted his gaze, his eyes locking onto Bryan, who stood by the table, cigarette smoke curling around his face as he stared intently at Eileen. Jacobâs voice dropped a notch. âIâm afraid of death.â
No matter how bold Jacob thought he was, mocking Bryan was a line he dared not cross. He huddled behind Phoebe, his eyes fleeting as they met Bryanâs gaze. His hands trembled intermittently as he muttered under his breath, âEileen, come on, put Bryan in his place!â
âKnock it off,â Phoebe said, patting Jacobâs head. âIf you ruin the mood with your antics, Iâll make you pay for it.â
As Jacob and Phoebe squabbled, Eileenâs eyes lingered on Bryan for more than ten seconds before she looked away. Bryan scattered, took a deep drag from his cigarette, and then crushed it, giving Jacob a smug look.
Rolling his eyes, Jacob called out to Eileen, âDonât you women have any sense of jealousy at all?â
Eileen responded calmly, âIt depends on the situation. If I got jealous over every person who liked Bryan from his college days, Iâd be furious all the time.â
Bryanâs lips curled into a smile as he sidled up to Eileen. His arm snaked around her waist, drawing her close. From his sideways stance, he could only glimpse her ears.
Undeterred, Jacob continued, âBut that teacher is different! Bryan hired her and then used his family connections to help her find a job!â
Eileen stiffened, turning to Bryan with a questioning look. âIs that true?â
