Chapter 137:
Eileen thought Milford was ready for the tutoring session when he went upstairs.
Milfordâs solemn expression after they got into the study said otherwise.
Milford pulled out a chair from behind the desk and gestured for Eileen to sit. âI want to have a word with you,â he said.
âAlright,â Eileen said, mildly surprised. âBut if youâre trying to get me to give up on you, Iâll tell you now that itâs going to be a waste of time.â
âIâd really hate to do this the hard way. Are you sure you wonât give up? Because once I take action, itâll be too late for you to regret your decision,â Milford said, his tone threatening.
âAs long as you do not resort to murder, I have nothing to fear,â Eileen replied.
âYou⦠Letâs wait and see,â Milford sneered.
He then pulled out another chair and sat down. He and Eileen each did their own thing, as usual.
The only difference was that they had exchanged seats.
It was when the time for a ten-minute rest came that Eileen found she couldnât stand up from her seat.
She touched her pants, surprised to see that they had been glued to the chair.
âNow, youâre stuck! I knew you would be stubborn, so I made preparations in advance,â Milford said.
He then stood up from his seat and turned off the light in the room before sneaking back to his bedroom.
gαâηÏνððsï¹cðm has it all Eileen sighed resignedly.
She had witnessed similar tricks back in her school days, but she had never thought she would be pranked this way.
Her pants were quite thin, so when she had felt a slight chill on her thighs while sitting down, she had ignored it.
That had turned out to be a mistake.
Gritting her teeth, Eileen held the chair down and tried to stand up. There was a tearing sound as her pants split slightly.
She knew giving up on her pants was necessary if she wanted to leave the chair.
Angrily, she sent a message to Milford.
âYouâll be in real trouble if anything happens to me in your study.â
âReally?â Milford replied.
âYouâll pay for this!â Eileen retorted back.
She then proceeded to take off her pants.
She tied the sleeves of her coat around her waist, the coat covering her lower body.
When she was about to take her bag and leave, the door to the study opened. Eileen could see the figure opening the door through the light from the corridor.
It was Bryan.
He stood there, a silhouette against the dim light. He turned on the light in the room and looked at Eileen.
His gaze caught on her slender form.
âUh, I have something urgent to attend to right now, so Iâll have to end the tutoring session,â Eileen said, her face coloring in embarrassment.
She felt extremely uncomfortable without her pants, and the cold air against her legs made her tense up slightly.
Bryan just stood at the door, saying nothing. Eileen didnât dare go toward him for fear of becoming completely exposed if she walked.
Suddenly, Bryan took two steps back, leaving the doorway open.
There was now enough space for Eileen to get past him and out of the room.
Eileen hesitated for a few seconds. After ensuring that the coat wouldnât fall from her waist, she began her walk toward the door.
Her coat was barely long enough to cover her lower body.
As she walked, her slender legs were completely exposed.
Bryanâs eyes darkened when he noticed that.
As Eileen made her way downstairs, Bryan grabbed her hand and dragged her into his room.
He then took off the coat tied around her waist.
It all happened too fast for Eileen to react.
Fortunately, her shirt was long enough to cover her underwear. She hurriedly tugged it down.
âWhat are you doing?â Eileen asked, her embarrassment evident.
Bryan began to unbutton his shirt. Shocked, Eileen began to fasten the buttons that he had just unbuttoned, her hands trembling as she did so.
But Bryan clasped her hands over her head, forcing her to raise her head.
Eileen was anxious. She felt a lump form in her throat.
Bryan took off his shirt and leaned closer. Eileen immediately tilted her head; she thought Bryan was going to kiss her.
âWhat do you think this is?â Bryan said, his grip on her waist loosening.
When Eileen looked down, she saw Bryan tying his shirt around her waist.
His shirt could reach down to her knees and was much better than her coat.
When his shirt touched her skin, she could still feel the warmth of his body left on the shirt.
Her face immediately turned red.
Bryan narrowed his eyes when he thought of how Eileen had tilted her head to avoid him.
âWhat did you think was going on? Do you think I still have that much money to waste on you?â he asked coldly.
Eileen forced a smile to her lips and said, âPlease donât joke about this again, Mr. Dawson.â
She then gently pushed him away from her and made her way to the door.
She fled fast.
Bryan watched Eileen from the window as she ran out of the villa and into the darkness.
He lit a cigarette and began to smoke.
After a while, he was still unable to get Eileen out of his mind.
He threw away the cigarette butt and went into the bathroom to take a cold shower.
The cold water helped calm him.
When Eileen returned home, Phoebe was quite surprised at Eileenâs strange outfit.
Phoebe lifted up the shirt tied around Eileenâs waist and saw that Eileen only had her underwear beneath. She nearly jumped off the sofa in shock.
âDid you go there to tutor or to sleep with Bryan? What did you two do? Did he tear your pants?â Phoebe asked.
âNo,â Eileen said, shoving Phoebeâs hand away.
Phoebe, however, didnât believe Eileen. âI heard men would tear womenâs dresses and stockings when having sex, but this is the first time Iâve seen someone tear their pants. Your pants cost several hundred dollars. It must not have been easy to tear. Or had it been so long since you two had sex that he was energized by lust?â
Eileen frowned at Phoebeâs words.
She took an apple from the bowl on the table and stuffed it into Phoebeâs mouth. When Phoebe was finally silent, she said, âItâs not what you think. My pants got torn, so he lent me his shirt to help cover me up.â
Phoebe took a bite of the apple and said, âAlright, letâs change the subject. I just want to know where the relationship between you and Bryan is going!â
âWhat do you mean?â Eileen asked.
Her mind suddenly went back to the divorce agreement that they had signed. Bryan must have known she was his wife when he signed it.
However, he had not mentioned that to her. Maybe he didnât care, or maybe he had been angry at her for hiding the truth from him.
After all, he must have been joking when he said he wanted to be with her, so her refusal wouldnât offend him.
She believed there was no chance for a relationship to blossom between them.
âDidnât he come to this city because of you?â Phoebe asked Eileen.
When the media had begun to report on the Apex Groupâs new project in Wist Land half a year ago, Phoebe had suspected Bryan had wanted to come here for Eileen.
Once Eileen and Bryan began communicating after Bryan had come here, Phoebe became convinced of her suspicion.
âYou are overthinking this. Apex Group had been planning for that project even before I resigned. The senior leaders had different opinions on the project. The cities around Onaland were chosen as potential sites, so businessmen from every city had been drawing the attention of the senior leaders of Apex Group. If such had continued, a large part of the capital would have been embezzled. That must have been why Bryan picked a city far from Onaland,â Eileen explained.
Although Wist Land was not the only city that was far away from Onaland, Eileen didnât think Phoebe was right.
Phoebe wasnât able to comprehend Eileenâs explanation of the Apex Group project. She didnât know how to refute Eileenâs words.
Eileen said, âIâm going to bed now. I need to go to the hospital tomorrow. You should go to the agency and find some work to do rather than filling your head with such nonsense.â
She then stood up from the sofa and went into the bathroom, where she took off Bryanâs shirt and threw it into the washing machine.
Phoebe returned to her room, unconvinced. She took out her phone and unblocked Jacobâs number.
Then, she sent him a message, âDid Bryan come to Wist Land for Eileen?â
Soon, a request for a voice chat from Jacob came. Phoebe accepted it and threw the phone to the end of her bed.
Jacobâs furious voice quickly filled the room. âHow dare you message me after everything thatâs happened, Phoebe? Those bastards in Onaland believe you ran away because you were dissatisfied with me. You made me a laughingstock!â
Although Phoebe and Jacob had not been dating, their families had intended that they get married.
All of their acquaintances had been paying attention to things between the two of them when unexpectedly, Phoebe fled the city.
When Phoebe fled the city, everyone thought she did that because she was dissatisfied with Jacob.
That had made Jacob a laughingstock. After that, he had angrily bombarded Phoebe with messages, chastising her. Phoebe had eventually had enough and blocked him.
âWhat are you angry about? Itâs not like I were in. If I had stayed, we would have been forced to get married,â Phoebe said. Changing the topic, she added, âAnswer my question first.â
Jacob went silent for a while. Frustrated, he finally asked, âEileen is in Wist Land?â
âYou didnât know that?â Phoebe replied.
âHow was I supposed to know?â Jacob retorted. He was aware that Phoebe had moved to Wist Land, but he had not known that she had followed Eileen there.
âOkay, thanks for nothing,â Phoebe said. She then hung up and blocked Jacob again.
Jacob tried to call back but realized that he had been blocked again. Feeling furious, he jumped off the sofa.
He quickly made another call. âDo you remember when you suggested letting me go to Wist Land to learn more, Dad? Iâm ready to go there.â
At the hospital, Eileen brought some bread, and she and Bailee had it for breakfast as they stood beside Rubyâs bed.
âItâs been a week, yet thereâs no sign of improvement,â Bailee said, nibbling on a piece of bread.
âGive it a few more days. Sheâll wake up,â Eileen replied. She had been expecting Bailee to call and give her the good news these past few days.
However, she had been sorely disappointed.
Soon, they had finished eating the bread. Eileen threw the wrapper into the trash can. When she turned around after that, she saw Rubyâs finger twitch.
âEileen!â she called, rushing to Rubyâs bedside.
