Chapter 251:
âLetâs go.â Eileen gave Milford a brief look and entered the elevator without showing any emotion. Standing beside Bryan, she caught the faint scent of pine coming from him, which clung to the air around her.
Her expression was cold as she watched the floor numbers on the display change. She didnât glance Bryanâs way even once. Bryanâs expression soured, and Milford stared at Bryan, making him a bit uneasy.
As soon as the elevator doors slid open, Eileen stepped out. She wore flats and moved quickly. She hadnât expected that the first person she would see outside the building was Zola.
âEileen, Bryan told me that Milford is starting school today. Iâll join you to accompany him,â Zola said.
She was puzzled as to why Bryan had suddenly asked her to take Milford to school today. But since Bryan had insisted, she had to comply.
Bryan took out his car keys and said, âYou can take my car.â He unlocked his car and gestured for Milford to climb in. They both got into the car.
Then they turned to look at Eileen, who remained motionless. Eileen suddenly reached into her bag, pulled out some documents, and passed them to Zola through the car window. âMiss Murray, since youâre accompanying Milford, thereâs no need for me to go with you. Here are the notes and the enrollment forms,â she said.
After handing over the documents, Eileen stepped back and waved. âBe careful on the way. Bye.â
Both Zola and Milford looked puzzled as they stared at Eileen. Bryanâs expression darkened.
âWell⦠Eileen, itâs been quite a handful for you to manage everything with Milford recently. Come with us today. Afterward, Iâd like to invite you and Bryan to lunch,â Zola attempted to ease the situation.
g Ɐ ln Ï Î½ð® âsâ¤com hosts great fiction âThanks, but Iâve got some things to handle,â Eileen smiled and said. âAlso, I think Mr. Dawson has been busy recently, meeting with Miss Ferguson, Miss Warren, and other women. He doesnât have time for lunch. Please hurry so you donât disrupt my schedule. I have my own plans and can catch up another time.â
Her smile faded as she cast a glance at Bryan. Then she snorted, turned, and walked away quickly. She didnât even glance back once. Before Bryan could grasp what was happening, she had already left.
Bryan had no idea Eileen could be so stubborn.
âI knew it. Bryan, youâve made Ms. Curtis angry,â Milford muttered.
He remembered that last night, Eileen had gone to Baileeâs place. Not long afterward, Bryan had climbed through the window into Eileenâs bedroom.
Despite his young age, Milford understood what was happening. âBryan, did you and Eileen have an argument?â Zola stepped out of the car and suggested, âWhy donât I take Milford to school, and you go talk to Eileen?â
âIâll ask Raymond to drive you two,â Bryan said, then turned to call his assistant. Within ten minutes, Raymond arrived to take Zola and Milford to school.
But Bryan didnât chase after Eileen. He knew she was likely at the education agency, a place bustling with people. Even if he went there, it wouldnât fix anything.
He got into his car, started the engine, and drove off. He then called Jacob. âI need to see Eileen tonight. Make it happen.â
Jacob, who had just picked up Phoebe, realized Bryan had been rejected by Eileen.
Gloating, Jacob had to calm himself in front of Phoebe and hung up the phone.
âTake me straight to Eileenâs place,â Phoebe instructed Jacob as she was about to send a message to Eileen.
Without looking up, Jacob replied, âSheâs avoiding Bryan right now, so she isnât at home. Iâm not sure where she is. Maybe you can try to invite her out. Letâs meet tonight.â
Phoebe glanced at her unsent message and questioned, âMeet up with whom?â
âWith Eileen and Bryan, of course,â Jacob answered.
Phoebe immediately rejected the idea. âBryan? After he made Eileen cry? No way Iâm letting him see her.â
Jacob was taken aback. He wanted to say that Eileen hadnât cried.
Suddenly, he found himself tangled in his lies and unable to clear them up.
After a moment, he said, âYes, Bryan went too far. Letâs make him apologize to Eileen tonight! Even if they want to part ways with each other, Bryan owes Eileen an apology.â
âThat makes sense.â Phoebe pondered briefly before saying, âAlright, you can arrange the place for tonight. Iâll reach out to Eileen.â
Half an hour later, they pulled up in front of Jacobâs place.
Phoebe looked out the window and exclaimed in anger, âWhy did you take me to your place?â
âYou can stay here for a few days. Eileenâs place doesnât have an extra room. I told my dad Iâm ending my engagement with Megan, and he agreed, especially since the Beckett family just had a crisis,â Jacob replied.
Jacob felt fortunate about the timing of the Beckett familyâs problem. Without it, breaking off his engagement with Megan would have been much more difficult.
Hearing this, Phoebe asked, âWhat happened?â
Jacob investigated the matter and found out that Bryan was behind it. It seems Megan must have upset Eileen again. Bryan just couldnât stand anyone bothering Eileen.
He was right about the situation.
Phoebe entered Jacobâs house hesitantly, feeling that something was amiss.
Under Jacobâs persuasive insistence, she avoided contacting Eileen all day and planned to invite her out in the evening.
Therefore, Eileen was unaware that Phoebe was in Onaland. Although she hadnât accompanied Milford to school, Milford kept her updated about the enrollment process.
Two hours after arriving at the school, Milford informed Eileen that Zola had opted not to have lunch with him because neither Eileen nor Bryan were present.
He and Zola said their goodbyes at the school gate, and Raymond took him home.
Why hadnât Eileen gone with them?
Eileen raised an eyebrow and advised Milford to prepare for his high school classes at home, enjoying the last two days before the new term started.
She spent her day designing courses for her three studentsâtwo in junior high and one in senior high. While she had experience with younger students, she needed to familiarize herself with the senior high curriculum.
She had spent the whole day busy at the education agency. Just as she was about to finish for the evening, Phoebe called her, saying, âIâm in Onaland.â
Phoebe said, telling Eileen the big news.
After pausing for a few seconds, Eileen questioned, âAre you and Jacob together now? Did you come back to Onaland to marry him?â
âYouâre overthinking it. I might consider giving him a chance after he ends his engagement with Megan,â Phoebe responded without hesitation. âI heard about your issues with Bryan, and I was worried about you, so I came to check on you.â
âItâs really nothing serious. You didnât need to come all the way for that.â Eileen was taken aback that Phoebe had come here solely out of concern for her. âIf things are fine, Iâll just go back to West Land.â
That made sense. Phoebe suddenly realized why she had felt something was amissâshe had been fooled by Jacob!
âWhere are you now? Iâll go see you,â Eileen said. Phoebe had come back for her, and she knew she should at least meet Phoebe.
âIâm with Jacob at the moment. How about we meet at the D.V Club?â Phoebe suggested.
Eileen agreed. After ending the call, she put away the documents on her table and headed straight to the club.
Immediately after Phoebe entered her car, Jacob approached her and asked, âDid you schedule a meeting with Eileen? Is she going to show up?â
âYeah,â Phoebe set the phone down roughly, grabbed Jacob by the shirt, pushed him onto the bed, and climbed on top of him. She said angrily, âYou lied to me! Eileen isnât upset at all. Obviously, she didnât cry. What exactly happened between her and Bryan?â
Jacob winced from the pain and allowed her to sit on him. Feeling the heat from her body, his gaze darkened.
âItâs all Bryanâs fault. Eileen didnât cry; sheâs angry with Bryan. She has even blocked him. I only lied because I missed you!â he said.
Though annoyed that Jacob had deceived her, Phoebe was moved by his words.
She patted his chest. âStop with the exaggerated excuses. You lied! You could lie about anything else, but you would never lie about loving me. Iâd do anything to be closer to you. I admit that.â Jacobâs grip tightened around Phoebeâs waist, his voice turning hoarse. âIâve been missing you every day. If you donât get off me now, weâll be late to meet Eileen. Actually, Iâm not even sure if weâll make it.â
Quickly getting off Jacob, Phoebe straightened her crumpled shirt, her ears flushed, yet her expression remained composed. âPervert! Get up; we have to go now!â she said.
Taking a deep breath, Jacob composed himself and stood up to follow Phoebe.
At five p.m., Eileen pulled up to the D.V. Club. The club wasnât crowded yet. Stepping out in a blue floral dress with her hair tied in a bun, Eileen looked great. She didnât notice a group of elegantly dressed women at the clubâs entrance who were gossiping about her.
As soon as she entered the club, a waiter promptly escorted her upstairs. The gossiping women exchanged looks and decided to follow Eileen. They hadnât gone far when two men in suits blocked their way.
âWhatâs going on here?â The woman in the lead glared at the men who had abruptly appeared, her annoyance palpable. âWe are acting on Mr. Dawsonâs instructions to keep anyone with questionable intentions away from Miss Curtis,â one of the bodyguards said bluntly. âPlease stay away from Miss Curtis.â
The leading woman scoffed, âWe just wanted to head upstairs to our own room.â
The bodyguard stood his ground. âWe donât start fights with women, but if youâre looking for trouble, we wonât hold back.â His words were enough to intimidate the women.
It was clear Bryan was protecting Eileen, and the women wondered how long he could keep it up. Meanwhile, Eileen was oblivious to the drama; she now knew she had been deceived by Phoebe.
She pushed the door to the private room open and walked in. The man standing in front of the window was enveloped in smoke. It was clearly Bryan. Dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, he turned to look at Eileen, the veins on his neck giving him a slightly wild look.
