Chapter 417:
âMilfordâs been acting strangely these last few days,â Ruby suddenly remarked. âHe only comes out for meals, retreats to his room immediately afterward, and even when he interacts with Gabriela, heâs quiet and looks distressed.â
Ruby gestured toward Milfordâs room and continued, âI overheard him on the phone earlier. It sounded like he was having an argument with someone.â
The argument had subsided, but Ruby was convinced that Milford had been in a heated argument with someone.
âIâm guessing itâs Zola. Iâll talk to him later.â
Milford, outwardly rebellious, still had a core of sensibility.
Not long after, Bryan descended the stairs and took Gabriela from Eileen, casually saying, âLetâs find some time to visit the hospital tomorrow. Jacobâs stepped into fatherhood.â
Eileen realized she hadnât seen Phoebe in a while. Phoebe had lamented about gaining so much weight that she refused to leave the house.
Eileen had been so busy that sheâd lost track of Phoebeâs due date.
âItâs a boy!â Bryan announced, kissing Gabriela with a self-satisfied smile. How could a boy ever compare to his precious little girl?
âWho gave birth to the baby?â Eileen asked suddenly.
Bryan was momentarily confused. âOf course, itâs Phoebe!â
Eileen grinned. âDonât forget about the moms. You made me feel like you and Jacob were the ones delivering the babies.â

âRemember, Gabriela came from Eileen,â Ruby reminded Bryan. âNo matter how much you boast about Gabriela, always remember that without Eileen, there wouldnât be a Gabriela.â
Recently, Ruby had noticed a hint of jealousy in Eileenâs eyes when it came to Gabriela.
But this actually comforted her, as it was clear Bryan didnât favor sons over daughtersâa rarity in wealthy circles.
The baby in Bryanâs arms kicked twice, as if agreeing with her grandmotherâs sentiment.
In Milfordâs room, only a dim light illuminated the space. Eileen knocked and entered after receiving a muffled response.
Milford, sitting by the window, stood up to turn on the light when he saw Eileen.
âEileen?â
âYouâve been a bit down the past few days. Whatâs going on?â Eileen approached him and asked.
