Chapter 437:
After ensuring Phoebeâs care plan was set, Jacob reached out to Eileen to express his gratitude, relaying the seriousness of Phoebeâs condition. âIf we had waited any longer, her depression could have worsened significantly, potentially becoming a threat to her life. Eileen, I owe you a huge thanks.â
While driving and speaking on the phone, Eileen replied, âYou donât have to thank me, Jacob. Just focus on Phoebeâs recovery. Helping her get socially active after confinement might also help improve her mental state.â
âAbsolutely,â Jacob agreed. âAnd donât worry, I wonât keep you on the phone too longâI wouldnât want Bryan getting jealous. Weâll talk more when we meet.â
Eileen chuckled as she ended the call, amused by Bryanâs notorious jealousy. Lost in thought, she glanced up just in time to spot a familiar face on a busâit was Milford.
During the busy evening commute, the bus was packed with passengers, all looking weary from the dayâs work. Milford was among them, seated by the window with a shopping bag in hand. He appeared particularly disheveled, still wearing the same clothes from the day before, his hair unkempt, and a look of fatigue on his face.
As Eileen paused at a red light, she noticed the bus making a right turn before disappearing from view. Given the time, she assumed he was out shopping for the new semester.
Having known him for nearly two years, Eileen was accustomed to Milfordâs usually neat appearanceâhis clothes always well put-together and his demeanor organized. The contrast to the tired young man she had just seen struck her.
Perhaps the crowded conditions were to blame for his disheveled look, she mused.
The honking from impatient drivers snapped Eileen back to the present as the light turned green. She accelerated through the intersection, her thoughts lingering on Milford as she drove towards home.

With a sense of urgency, Lydia dialed Zola to issue a warning. The situation had worsened further with Travisâ sudden disappearance after his return, deepening Lydiaâs concern.
Under the bright noon light, Lydia reached out to Travisâ biological father, her voice filled with anxiety. âWhat did you say to him before he returned? Why has he disappeared?â
âDonât point fingers at me,â the man replied casually over the phone, his voice tinged with annoyance. âHe caught wind of our conversation and didnât like what we discussed.â
