Chapter 452:
Ruby agreed enthusiastically. âYes, itâs been a while since sheâs been home.â
âAnd whatâs the latest with her and Winona?â Eileen had been so busy that she had only exchanged brief messages with Bailee about work since Bailee moved out. Both of them had been swamped, leaving little time for a proper conversation.
Ruby sighed and set her phone down. âI havenât asked. Sheâs always so busy, and even when sheâs home for dinners, Huey is around, making it awkward to ask.â
âShe knows what sheâs doing. Maybe theyâve already confessed to Winona.â
Their conversation was suddenly interrupted by the doorbell.
Eileen handed Gabriela over to Ruby and went to answer the door.
To her surprise, it was Winona.
After a brief moment of shock, Eileen warmly welcomed her inside. âMrs. Baker, please come in.â
âHello, Miss Curtis,â Winona greeted her politely, acknowledging Eileenâs superior status.
The villa Eileen now resided in was larger than the Baker familyâs home, and their social status had also surpassed the Bakersâ family. Yet, Winona wasnât one to judge potential daughters-in-law by their familyâs wealth, but rather by their character. This was why she had originally been fond of Eileen, despite her modest background.
âMrs. Baker, what brings you by?â Upon hearing it was Winona, Ruby promptly stood to greet her, holding Gabriela.
Winona was taken aback to see Gabriela in Rubyâs arms.
âThis is my daughter,â Eileen introduced.

After inviting Winona into the villa, Eileen settled Gabriela into a playpen and herself onto the carpet to play with her, all the while listening in on the conversation between Winona and Ruby.
âWeâve known each other for years. You understand me, so I wonât beat around the bush,â Winona said, getting straight to the point.
ââIâm here to talk about Huey and Bailee.â
Ruby nodded with a warm smile. âYes, we need to sort out the situation with the young ones.â
âThe thing is, Huey actually has a childhood fiancée. Years ago, when his fiancéeâs family moved abroad, I thought about ending the engagement and tried pairing him with Eileen, but it wasnât meant to be.â
With a glance at Eileen, who was now focused on her child, Winona added, âLast year, that family returned and revived the engagement. Itâs not that Iâm against Huey and Bailee; itâs just that our two families have been intertwined for decades. Itâs hard to dismiss such an engagement.â
