Chapter 520:
âDonât ask questions for now. Get us to the hospital. Milford has a fever,â Eileen said as she climbed into the passenger seat, wincing from her bruised arm.
The hospital was nearby, just a ten-minute drive away.
Milford was quickly rushed to the emergency room, and Eileen informed the doctor about his injured foot.
After about ten minutes, the doctor emerged from the emergency room. âDonât worry too much. His high fever is due to a deep wound on his foot that wasnât treated promptly, which caused it to swell. Heâs likely had a fever for longer than today.â
The doctor explained the situation while asking a nurse to bring medicine for the fever and attend to Milfordâs wound.
âPlease settle the payment,â the doctor said as he handed over the bill.
The manager hesitated and didnât take the bill right away.
Eileen grabbed the bill from him without hesitation. âGive him the best medicine,â she instructed the doctor. âAnd keep him here for two days for observation of the wound.â
The manager sighed, looking uncertain. âJust to be clear, Milford only works at the coffee shop on Saturdays, and the injury didnât happen here. You can treat him in the hospital, but if heâs hospitalized, the cost will be high. I wonât be able to explain this to my boss.â
âDonât worry about the money; Iâll take care of it,â Bailee said, unable to hold back any longer. She grabbed the bill from Eileenâs hands. âEileen, Iâll settle the payment. You should go and get your arm checked by the doctor.â
Bailee then left.
Eileen hesitated. She knew admitting Milford would take a long time. Zola hadnât arrived yet, and the manager couldnât leave Milford alone with Eileen, so they had no choice but to wait.
The doctor then took Eileen to examine her arm. The manager waited alone outside the emergency room until Zola hurried in.

The manager stood up to explain, âMiss Murray, your brother has a feverâ¦â
Zola cut him off, her brow furrowing into a deep frown. âA fever? Seriously? Thatâs why youâre blowing up my phone? Why did you have to send him to the hospital? Canât you just give him some medicine?â
The manager was stunned, completely taken aback.
Was Zola really Milfordâs sister? Eileen had shown more concern for him, and she was only an acquaintanceâ¦
âWhere is he?â Zola demanded, impatience rising in her voice.
The manager gestured toward the curtained entrance of the emergency room. âHe has an infection in his foot wound, and itâs started to swell. Theyâre cleaning him up now. The doctor already gave him something for the fever.â
Before the manager could finish, Zola waved her hand dismissively. âListen up, youâre covering all the expenses. He got hurt on your watch!â
