Chapter 575:
Josue poked his head out and interjected, âBut itâs already happened. Over the past three months, Zelda has devotedly cared for Bryan. Sheâs secured a significant place in his heart. Bryan likes her now. And think about itâyour direct approach might just irritate him. Even if you told Bryan everything, he still wouldnât remember you. How would you feel if he returned to you with Zelda still in his heart?â
His words cut deep, causing Eileen great pain.
In response, Eileen asked, âThen do you know how I would feel seeing him marry another woman and have children with her? What if he regains his memory later? If I donât try to stop this marriage now, wonât heââ
âHis memory canât be recovered!â Jacob exclaimed, then quickly covered his mouth, realizing his mistake.
He knew Bryan didnât want Eileen to know that he hadnât lost his memory. There was nothing Eileen could do about it.
âWhat do you mean?â Eileen stood up, her gaze sharp as suspicion began to form in her mind. âIs his memory loss because of Coenâs drug, orâ¦â
Josue interjected, âNo matter the reason, Bryan is physically disabled now. Heâs not the man he once was. Why do you insist on staying with him? You have many suitors. With your capabilities, finding another man would be easy. Why put yourself through this torment?â
âI love him for who he is, not for his past achievements. Even though heâs disabled now, my love for him will last a lifetime!â Eileen said resolutely. âFrom this moment on, if you two try to persuade me otherwise, our friendship is over!â
With that, Eileen picked up Gabriela and started to ascend the stairs.
Halfway up, she couldnât hold back her tears any longer.
She kissed Gabrielaâs cheek and cradled her once they were back in the room. In a soft voice, she whispered, âGabriela, you understand me, donât you? Even if he were no longer alive, I couldnât forget himâ¦â
Stay connected gαâηÏvððsâ¤com Outside, in the corner of the house, Bryan leaned against the cold wall, cane in hand. He had overheard the heated exchange inside.
The veins on the back of his hand bulged, his fingertips turning white as he gripped the cane tightly.
He clenched his teeth, the muscles in his jaw tensing as he fought the urge to burst into the house and embrace Eileen and Gabriela.
He shifted slightly, then slowly walked away.
Bryan had only taken a few steps when Jacob and Josue caught up with him.
âYou heard everything. We tried to change Eileenâs mind, but itâs just not possible,â Josue explained, offering support to Bryan. But Bryan pushed him away.
âIf persuasion doesnât work, then stop trying. Once Iâm married to Zelda, sheâll have no choice but to move on,â Bryan stated, his voice rough as he struggled to keep his emotions in check.
With his hands tucked into his pockets, Jacob followed Bryan and said, âThe hospital hasnât found a way to neutralize the drug yet. However, people from Coenâs lab suggested that if the drug isnât fully successful, the effects will be manageable. Have you considered what will happen if it fails? Marrying Zelda means you can never go back to Eileen. Sheâll resent you forever.â
