Chapter 584:
Josue, stretching his neck, explained, âYou were sleeping so deeply today that I got worried and came to check on you. Gabriela refused to leave, so I played with her for a while.â
Then, he turned and left with Gabriela in his arms. âBreakfast is ready. Come downstairs,â he called as he walked out.
Eileen lowered her gaze to her hands. After a moment of hesitation, she got out of bed and started putting away the bottles on the floor. But then, she noticed a footprint on the floor, only the first half visible.
She wasnât sure about the size of the foot, but it was clearly not hers, and Josue couldnât have been so close to her bed.
Her gaze shifted to the bedside table, where the lid of the ointment was not closed. A thought crossed her mind as she touched her back. She didnât feel the usual tingling sensation.
The sensation on her back now felt like the same feeling when she had first applied the ointment to the spots on her arm.
After making the bed, she went downstairs, where she took Gabriela from Josueâs arms. She sat at the table, eating breakfast in silence, which puzzled Jacob and Josue.
The two exchanged uneasy glances. Had Eileen discovered something?
But Eileen remained calm as she ate.
Josue nudged Jacob, who said, âThere are only a few days left before Bryan and Zeldaâs weddingâ¦â
âI know,â Eileen interjected. âYou donât need to keep reminding me.â
âIâm just concerned that you might be upset seeing it,â Jacob said earnestly. âThe one you love is marrying someone else, and that must be painful. I just think youââ
New updates in gαâηÏνðâsâ¤cøm âIâm not upset,â Eileen interjected again, setting down her utensils. âIâve thought it over. What you said makes sense. If he wants to marry, let him. Even if I try to bring him back, I canât stop him from marrying. Why should I torment myself like that?â
The room fell silent.
Jacob glanced at Josue before asking Eileen, âHave you really made up your mind?â
Eileen nodded. âYes, I have. I even regret investing in this place, but the construction has already started. Tomorrow, Benjamin will come to inspect the project. After he gets the shareholders to agree to invest, Iâll leave.â
Josue slammed his hand on the table. âExactly. Eileen, I always knew you were a smart person. Itâs right for you to move on. When we get back, Iâll introduce you to a great guy. As Gabrielaâs godfather, Iâll make sure she has a good stepfather.â
âHey, donât talk nonsense,â Jacob said, poking Josue.
âI didnât say anything wrong!â Josue pushed Jacob away, about to say more, but Jacob dragged him off.
As they left the yard, Josue asked, âWhy did you push me? Our plan is succeeding, right?â
Jacob sighed. âWhat were you thinking? You should at least introduce Eileen to someone else after Bryanâs gone. Otherwise, her marriage will be the subject of gossip because of her high social status. By then, Bryan wonât be able to handle itâ¦â
In the afternoon, Jacob and Josue shared the news about Eileen with Bryan.
