Chapter 587:
Their remarks reached Bryan, who was standing still by the door. Leaning against the wall, cigarette in hand, Bryan took a long drag. He couldnât hear Eileenâs exact response to the crowd, but he noticed the chatter growing louder.
âMr. Dawson.â Zelda emerged from the yard, saying, âAlmost everyone has arrived. Letâs head inside.â
âYou invited her?â Bryan questioned Zelda.
Zelda, slightly uneasy, replied, âMy father thought it would be appropriate, since Miss Curtis is well-known here.â
Bryanâs piercing gaze seemed to see right through Zeldaâs thoughts. He extinguished his cigarette, dropped it to the ground, and stuffed his hands into his pockets as he moved toward the courtyard. âDonât play any tricks.â
His low tone was enough to make Zelda flinch. She watched him leave before regaining her composure and following him.
Inside the yard, about eight tables were filled with guests chatting happily. People were engaged in a lively discussion about how the small village would transform into a resort, with Eileen and Benjamin at the center of the conversation.
Eileen glanced at Bryan, who had joined the same table as her. He remained silent after sitting down, seemingly indifferent to the villageâs future.
âWeâre not hosting today,â Eileen said, realizing the shift in focus. âLetâs save the village reconstruction talks for later and focus on the wedding now.â
The villagers, realizing they had overlooked the host, quickly changed the topic to discuss the upcoming wedding with Felipe.
Meanwhile, Eileen took the opportunity to feed Gabriela some food. âLet me hold her. You should eat,â she said to Benjamin.
âNo need, sheâs quite taken with me,â Benjamin replied, visibly charmed by the little girl, who smiled up at him.
Latest stories on â¤com Gabriela beamed at Eileen. When she caught sight of Bryan, her babbling grew louder, and her smile widened.
Eileen looked up and caught Bryanâs gaze. In the next moment, she gently turned Gabrielaâs head away.
âHoney, donât look around. Itâll scare you,â Eileen said softly.
Gabriela beamed at her, then tried to pull herself up using Benjaminâs thigh. She spun around, wrapping her little arms around Benjaminâs neck, showering him with kisses and gentle touches.
Bryan watched from a distance, his fists clenched as he observed the affectionate interaction between Benjamin, Eileen, and Gabriela. A surge of anger washed over him.
Eileen had never felt so full after a meal like this.
âToday, while we celebrate a joyous occasion for the Dury family, Iâd also like to take a moment to introduce someone to you all,â Eileen said, holding a glass of wine. After the meal, before the crowd could disperse, she continued, âStanding next to me is Mr. Nash from the company. He will be involved in the upcoming project. Tomorrow, please have someone show him around the village so he can familiarize himself with the area.â
Though she was familiar with the locale, Eileen knew the locals possessed insights about the village that she couldnât match.
