Chapter 589:
In the small village, street lamps were spaced every few hundred meters, casting faint light on the uneven ground. Carrying Gabriela made Eileenâs walk particularly challenging, and Benjamin instinctively moved to assist her.
âNo, thanks,â Eileen said, avoiding Benjaminâs outstretched hand.
âWhat?â Benjamin asked, his voice laced with a chuckle. âYou donât want my help after all the acting?â
Hearing this, Eileen was taken aback. She turned around to face Benjamin. Under the glow of the streetlamp, several insects buzzed overhead.
âYou canât deceive me. Weâve known each other for so long. I can see through you easily,â Eileen said, her tone more serious now.
Benjamin took a deep breath. âIs there anything I can do to help?â
As he spoke, he noticed Josue and Jacob approaching.
In a hushed tone, he added, âTo be frank, those two are close with Bryan. Theyâll always prioritize him. You need someone who is on your side, no matter what. Trust me, Iâm that person.â
He emphasized the last two words deliberately.
There was sincerity in his eyes. For a moment, Eileen couldnât help but marvel at how Benjamin, once her rival, had become a close friend.
âThen, thank you,â Eileen said, handing Gabriela to Benjamin just as Jacob and Josue caught up with them.
Josue instinctively reached out to take Gabriela from Benjamin. âI can take her.â
Before Benjamin could respond, Eileen interjected, âLet Benjamin hold her. He needs to get familiar with Gabriela in advance.â

Josueâs eyes widened, exchanging glances with Jacob.
By then, Benjamin had already lifted Gabriela onto his shoulder, holding her high in the air, causing her to giggle.
âWhat do you mean?â Jacob asked, unable to resist. âDoes Benjamin want to be Gabrielaâs godfather?â
With a knowing smile, Eileen glanced at Benjamin and Gabriela. âNot a godfather. Heâs going to be Gabrielaâs stepfather,â she said softly. âHeâs been in love with me for many years. Didnât Bryan mention that to you before?â
Both Jacob and Josue gasped.
âBut I havenât made up my mind yet. Letâs see how he does first. You two can help me keep an eye on him,â Eileen said, continuing to walk.
The sound of rapid footsteps echoed behind her. Josue hurried to catch up, his voice tinged with concern. âYou⦠Have you really moved on from Bryan? Can you forget all the good he did for you?â
Gesturing toward the lavish wedding decorations, Eileen said, âBryan has been as cruel to me as he was once kind. Now, heâs marrying another woman right before my eyes. Why shouldnât I move on? I wonât wait for him to hurt me any longer.â
