Chapter 596:
As Eileen continued speaking, Josue whispered, âSo, you didnât bring Gabriela with you today?â
âNo. Benjamin is looking after her while Iâm at work,â Eileen replied. She then approached Bryanâs bed and added, âYour leg is injured, so it must be difficult to keep up with the project these days. You might want to consider having your fiancée, Zelda, step in for you temporarily.â
Bryan thought for a moment, his lips pressed tightly together, before responding, âOkay.â
âWait.â Jacob interrupted. âDonât be so formal, Eileen. Isnât there something else you want to say?â
With a slight raise of her eyebrows, Eileen couldnât resist adding, âYes. Mr. Dawson and Zelda were supposed to marry yesterday, but the ceremony was postponed due to the weather. I hope you recover soon, Mr. Dawson, so you can hold your wedding. Maybe the gods were against your wedding yesterday, but as they say, where thereâs a will, thereâs a way. If you persevere, it will happen eventually.â
Josue looked baffled and asked, âWhat are you implying, Eileen?â
âWhat? Donât you understand?â Eileen turned to Josue. âLet me spell it out for you. Those who seek trouble will find it.â
With that, Eileen pulled out a sealed envelope containing a stack of money.
She said, âThis is from the company; we hope you recover soon. Please accept it.â
Without waiting for a response, she zipped up her bag, turned, and left.
In less than five minutes, she had said her piece and departed.
Your escape begins with gⱯlnÏνð®âsâ¤ð¬ðm Jacob stood there, bewildered. âThatâs it? We couldnât convince her to leave just a few days ago, but now sheâs completely moved on?â
âWomen always change so fast.â Josue said with a knowing expression. âBut sheâs changed way faster than Edna ever did.â
âDid she and Benjamin get together a while ago?â
Exasperated, Jacob walked over to Bryanâs bedside and said, âWhat you did probably pushed them closer together.â
âFuck off.â Bryan frowned and threw a packet of tissues at Jacob.
Noticing Bryanâs foul mood, Josue pulled Jacob out to get some breakfast.
Bryan remained alone on the bed, clenching his teeth in frustration, though his chiseled face betrayed no sign of anger.
His emotions were complicated.
In the afternoon, Bryan was discharged from the hospital. On his way back to the Dury familyâs home, he passed by the house where Eileen was staying.
From a distance, he saw Benjamin playing with Gabriela in the yard. Gabriela, toddling along in her walker, babbled, âDaDaddi!â
The word struck a chord in Bryan.
âNo, Iâm not your daddy,â Benjamin gently corrected her.
Bryanâs expression shifted. After a moment, he turned and walked away.
Due to the weather, Eileen stayed in the village for two more days.
Three days later, when the weather cleared, it was time for Eileen and Benjamin to leave for the airport.
The day before their departure, a local warned them that the heavy rains could easily trigger mudslides.
The summer rains often drenched the area, which was popular with tourists. This could cause problems in the future.
