Chapter 639:
Bryanâs arms tightened around her waist, pulling her closer, as if he wanted to merge with her. âThatâs just part of the reason.â
The thought of not being able to be with her physically tormented him. So, going home felt like torture to him.
With flushed ears, Eileen pulled away from him and said, âLet Josue drive you home tonight. I need to go home and prepare.â
She thought about it for a moment, feeling Bryan wasnât fit to climb stairs given his condition.
âThe doctor said climbing stairs will aid my recovery,â Bryan said, seeing through her thoughts. âBut itâs probably better if Josue takes me home tonight. You can go ahead with your tasks now.â
âThen Iâll head back first,â Eileen replied.
After leaving the hospital, Eileen passed a flower shop and bought a large bouquetâa symbol of hope and renewalâon her way home.
Ruby was surprised when Eileen walked in with the flowers. âWhy the sudden flower purchase?â
Eileen placed the flowers in a vase and replied, âMom, Bryan is being discharged tonight. He can continue his treatment at home now.â
Rubyâs face lit up with surprise and joy. âThatâs wonderful! Bailee said sheâd take me to visit him at the hospital tomorrow, but now he can be home.â
âYes,â Eileen answered. Then, she added softly, âIâm going to marry Bryan.â
Ruby blinked, taken aback. âItâs about time. How long will his recovery take? Are you planning to hold the wedding after he recovers or now? Can he handle it?â
LÉtÑst chαptÑrs ðn gð¶lðovÑðÑ.Ñð¸m Ruby didnât know much about Bryanâs conditionâonly that he had lost his memory and might have been injured in the plane crash.
Eileen hesitated but didnât mention the full extent of Bryanâs condition. She simply said, âWeâll hold the wedding now. He⦠He might never fully recover.â
Ruby trembled at this, almost losing her balance. She quickly steadied herself and eased down onto the sofa, her face a mixture of urgency and concern.
âWhatâs really happening to him? Tell me the truth!â she urged.
âCoen injected him with an experimental drug,â Eileen explained succinctly. She didnât dare go into the details of what the drug might do, only mentioning that its effects were unknown.
âSo, thereâs no certainty about Bryanâs recovery?â Rubyâs eyes widened with disbelief and concern. âAnd youâre still planning to marry him?â
Realizing how her words sounded, Ruby quickly added, âEileen, thatâs not what I meant. I just⦠What will you do if he doesnât get better? You love him so much, but can you handle it? Iâm worried you might suffer because of how deeply you love him.â
Eileen gently sat beside Ruby and patted her arm, reassuring her. âItâs not that Iâm just falling in love with him now. Iâve loved him deeply for a long time.â She paused, her voice softening. âAnd donât worry. Gabriela will keep me grounded.â
Tears streamed down Rubyâs face, and she was at a loss for words, unable to convince or scold Eileen.
Eileen continued, her tone reflective. âWhen I first married him, I had just graduated from college, and you had just fallen ill. He seemed like a miracle to me, someone unattainable, yet he saved both of us. Later, when I worked at Apex Group, I never imagined that my boss was the same man I had been married to for three years. He helped us again, making sure you could continue your treatment.â
