Chapter 649:
Eileen, noticing Judieâs irritation, stepped out of the car and explained, âIâm getting married to Bryan. Today, we were just finalizing our wedding plans. Roderick came to represent my family there.â
Judieâs expression soured when she heard this. She had been wondering if Eileen would invite her to the meal discussing wedding plans. It now appeared that Eileen had no intention of inviting her at all.
âIf you want your family to be present, just having him there isnât enough. Denise and I are also your family. Why didnât you invite us?â Judie protested.
âYouâre pregnant, Judie. You shouldnât be exerting yourself. It was my decision to advise Eileen against inviting you,â Roderick interjected firmly.
Judieâs expression darkened, and she pinched Roderickâs waist sharply.
As the argument between Roderick and Judie dragged on, Eileenâs frown deepened. She realized that letting them go back home would only worsen the situation. So, she bluntly said, âJudie, I shouldnât have to make this clear. You know exactly why you and Denise canât come.â
Her eyes held a questioning look, as if she could see right through what Judie was thinking. With a trace of unease in her voice, Judie replied, âWhat do you mean?â
âI understand you think your mother doesnât care about you, but Iâve never been bad to you!â Judie snapped.
âBut you havenât exactly been kind to me either,â Eileen responded. Rather than confronting Judieâs underlying motives head-on, Eileen chose a subtler approach. If not for Judieâs intervention, Denise might never have approached her in private before.
Eileen knew that stating her thoughts openly could strain Judieâs relationship with Roderick, so she only hinted at it subtly. Judie caught on to the unspoken message.
As Eileen had anticipated, Judie remained silent, glaring at her.

Behind her, Judieâs fury peaked; she shook off Roderickâs hand and hurried after Eileen. Just then, the car window rolled down halfway. Bryan gazed out at Judie with a cold, unsettling stare, causing her to halt and step back.
Judie hadnât expected Bryan to be in the car. His piercing look left her frozen, unable to do anything but watch as Eileen drove off.
âRoderick, if you donât explain whatâs happening, Iâm not going to let this go!â Judie turned around and snapped at Roderick. âHavenât I treated Eileen well? How could she accuse me of mistreating her? She just looks down on me. If you werenât her brother, sheâd probably keep her distance from you too!â
âStop talking nonsense,â Roderick retorted, his brow furrowing as he guided her back home. âEileen isnât like that at all. If we both went to the meal, what about my mother? Sheâd definitely cause a scene if she found out about it.â
Judie pressed undeterred. âDo you also look down on me? Why keep secrets from me? Iâm carrying your childâ¦â
Their argument slowly dwindled as they moved further away.
