Chapter 725:
Truthfully, Eileen wasnât keen on these foods, but she couldnât ignore the expectation in Leylaâs eyes. She sampled two pieces and nodded in approval. âYes, this is delicious,â she said.
âYour mother was good at making that dish,â Leyla said. âThis time, your aunt cooked it, but it doesnât quite match up to your momâs.â
Leyla then gestured toward another area. Conroy went to fetch a different dish Leyla had pointed at for Eileen.
The table was laden with a variety of dishes. After tasting each one, Eileen was so stuffed that she had to put her fork down. âGrandma, Iâm full,â she said.
Upon hearing this, Leyla promptly replied, âThen letâs stop here. You can try more tomorrow. Now, take me back to my room.â Eileen rose to her feet and wheeled Leyla toward her bedroom. Gianna exchanged a few words with Kinsey before hurrying to catch up with them.
âHave a chat with your grandma,â Gianna suggested to Eileen. âYouâve had a long day, so stay up late talking. Thereâs always tomorrow.â
Once inside Leylaâs bedroom, Eileen sat down on the sofa. Gianna fetched some warm water to wash Leylaâs face and feet.
Leyla appeared much livelier than she had earlier in the day. As Gianna assisted her, Leyla chatted with Eileen, asking about her past and inquiring whether her stepmother had mistreated her.
Eileen told Leyla that after moving in with Ruby, she had been raised by her and had even graduated from a prestigious university. She omitted mentioning Rubyâs illness and her subsequent meeting with Bryan.
âThatâs a great university,â Gianna said, her eyes sparkling. âGraduating from such a renowned university, youâll probably earn enough to support your grandmother one day.â
âThat would be wonderful,â Leyla said, beaming with pride. âYour stepmother seems like a kind soul. Make sure to give her some money to repay her later.â

When Leyla heard this, her smile dimmed slightly.
Gianna paused for a moment, then suddenly stood up, as if a thought had struck her. âEileen, itâs time for bed now. Your grandmotherâs getting ready to sleep. You can return to your room now.â
Feeling she might have misspoken, Eileen sensed that Leyla might think her stay here was only temporary. However, Gianna kept signaling for her to leave, leaving no room for Eileen to clarify things with Leyla. She had no choice but to go.
Back in her room, Eileen washed up and lay in bed, restless and awake. Thoughts of clearing up the misunderstanding with Leyla plagued her. As a result, she spent a sleepless night tossing and turning. Just as she finally drifted off in the early morning, a knock at the door jolted her awake.
âThere are some people here. Theyâre asking for you,â Tessa said.
Groggily rubbing her eyes, Eileen slipped on her down jacket and stepped out of her room. From a distance, she spotted Bryan holding Gabriela. They both beamed at her.
