Chapter 870:
No hospital would allow her to add tests for other people without a valid reason or authorization. She had asked the nurse on a whim. Knowing she was in the wrong, Eileen lowered her voice.
Since she had taken the form and asked the nurse to add an extra test for someone else without a valid reason, the nurse had likely thought she was suspicious.
âWhich hospital are you at?â Bryan asked, his tone softening.
âThe hospital in the north of the city,â Eileen replied. âLet me handle it. Reach out if anything happens. And please, think before acting,â Bryan reminded her.
Eileenâs face lit up with joy. âGot it. Iâll contact you straight away next time. I was hesitant to reach out earlier because I thought youâd be busy and I didnât want to disturb you.â
âIâll always prioritize your needs, no matter how busy my schedule is,â Bryan replied, smiling upon hearing her soft tone.
After the call, he turned to Raymond and said, âGo to the hospital and track down Conroyâs and Jessicaâs blood samples from their exams. Get a paternity test done.â
âAlright,â Raymond replied. He took a few steps away, then mustered up the courage to return and ask, âExcuse me, Mr. Dawson, didnât you say youâd handle this?â He was only human. Since the moment he arrived in Alverton, he had constantly been tasked with handling matters for Bryan. Everyone perceived Bryan as a powerhouse, but what they didnât realize was that Raymond was the one actually putting in the effort.
It was okay if others didnât recognize his contributions, but now, Bryan was asking him to do things for Eileen.
Bryanâs eyes narrowed slightly as he thought for a moment. Then, he nodded and said, âAlright, Iâve got this covered. You can head home to rest now.â
âNo, no, no!â Raymondâs nerves got the better of him, and he shook his head. âIâll finish the task, sir. I have excess energy to burn, and itâs my responsibility to assist you with your personal matters, Mr. Dawsonâ¦â
âIt shouldnât be your responsibility. Youâre my assistant, and your focus should be on helping me with my work, not getting entangled in my personal matters,â Bryan said sternly. âYouâre entitled to a work-life balance, with double overtime pay and a strict eight-hour workday.â
âMr. Dawson, Iâm sorry,â Raymond clasped his hands together and bowed deeply. âI have an annual salary of millions. Iâm willing to risk life and limb to follow your orders, let alone put in extra hours to handle your personal matters!â
Bryan leaned back in his chair, his eyes narrowing as he looked at Raymond. âIn that case, what are you waiting for? Get out and do the task now!â
Raymond muttered, âNext time you help Ms. Curtis, could you please tell her that youâll assign the matter to your assistant?â He simply wanted some recognition for doing the work.
The next second, the documents on the table were swept straight to the floor. Raymond swiftly turned around, flung open the door, and made a hasty exit. The documents bounced off the door and landed on the floor. The office suddenly became quiet, and Bryan scoffed.
He would always request that the company acknowledge Raymondâs contributions by adding his name to the projects he had worked on. After all, Raymond had invested significant effort in them. However, Raymond shouldnât want to take credit for matters involving Eileen!
As Raymond fled, he dabbed at the cold sweat on his forehead, realizing he had gone too far and possibly offended his boss. What other assistant could possibly earn an annual salary of millions like him?
