Chapter 927:
The waiter processed the payment with the card and then respectfully handed it back to Conroy.
Once he had his card back, Conroy dove straight into the heart of the matter. âThe real reason I asked you to meet me today is your mother, Eileen. Now that she has been laid to rest in the family cemetery and you have returned to the family, canât you consider reconciling with me for the sake of our family?â
With her arms crossed, Eileen watched him speak.
Conroy continued, âI married your mother so that you could be born legitimately. Throughout the years, your mother and I maintained a business-like relationship with no emotional ties. So, my relationship with Gianna wasnât a betrayal of your mother! Iâve looked after the Vazquez familyâs interests on your motherâs behalf for many years. Iâve put in the effort. Do you think itâs fair for you to kick me out of the family?â
Conroy looked at Eileen with complicated emotions in his eyes.
Eileenâs face remained impassive as she countered, âWhat do you think would be fair then?â
âAt the very least, you should provide me with a sum of money to secure my future,â Conroy said without hesitation.
âFuture? Youâre already an old man. How can you have the audacity to ask for that?â Eileen scoffed. Clearly, he didnât have much longer to live. Discussing his future seemed almost comical.
âI realize you dislike me no matter what I say at this point. You believe Iâm deceiving you, but Iâm honestly telling you that your mother married me to ensure you had a legitimate background and to prevent any scandal from tarnishing the Vazquez familyâs name. You wouldnât want to damage your familyâs reputation, would you?â Conroy repeatedly emphasized to Eileen that he held the secret that she was his biological daughter.
Your escape begins with gⱯlnÏνð®âsâ¤ð¬ðm Revealing this would not only impact the Vazquez family but also Eileen herself, exposing a truth Dottie had concealed for many years.
Finally understanding Conroyâs leverage, Eileen responded after a pause, âI donât care about having a spotless background. It doesnât concern me.â
âBut your mother cared deeply about this!â Conroy quickly said.
âOnce your true identity comes out, youâll be seen as an illegitimate child and criticized by others.â
He was anxious to convince Eileen to accept his version of events quickly so he could move on to another subject.
But Eileen retorted, âIâm not sure if my mother was really concerned about that. Why donât you die and ask her about it in the afterlife?â
Conroy was left without words.
Eileen continued, âAlso, you could inform her that Iâve been found and that Iâve been ousted from the Vazquez family. Ask her whether I handled things correctly. If she thinks I did wrong, she can scold me in my dreams, but I wonât take your word for it now.â
Conroy was taken aback by Eileenâs words. As the waiter arrived to serve their food, Bryan requested two takeout boxes. While continuing his conversation with Conroy, Bryan packed several of Eileenâs favorite dishes.
After finishing his conversation with Conroy, Eileen left with Bryan, each of them carrying a takeout box.
