Chapter 956:
Tildaâs frown deepened. âJessica, if you keep talking like this, Iâm going to get angry!â
Jessica averted her gaze, hiding a smirk. Making Tilda angry was exactly what she wanted. But she couldnât push too hard. With a feigned look of concern, she added, âTilda, donât fool yourself into thinking your relatives are as laid-back as people abroad. Family here is a battlefield, with people ready to claw each other apart for a slice of the inheritance! Your brotherâs wife is no pushoverâconsider yourself lucky if she leaves you any scraps. But if Eileen enters the picture, you might as well kiss it all goodbye.â
Since they hadnât grown up together, Tildaâs bond with her brother was thin at best. When she had returned from abroad, she had discovered that her brother, Jonah Aston, had already married a woman from a prestigious family. His wife, Lorraine Evans, was calculating. Tilda, who had planned to enjoy a carefree return, had found herself married within two years because of Lorraine.
Tilda was straightforward and not one to dwell on what-ifs. She didnât believe her marriage was arranged by anyone who had paired her with a less suitable match.
âTilda, Iâm telling you, youâre naive. Youâll never outmaneuver Eileen on your own. Donât even try. I suggest you bring the matter to your sister-in-lawâs attention. Sheâll know how to handle it.â Jessica felt a pang of unease as she mentioned Lorraine. She entirely believed she could bend Lorraine to her will, so she opted to manipulate Tilda instead.
Hearing this, Tilda fell silent, lost in thought. Jessica considered pressing further, but she suddenly remembered Giannaâs warning and decided not to continue the topic.
âHey, look over thereâthatâs Bryan, Eileenâs husband. Isnât he just the most handsome man youâve ever seen?â
âHeâs married to my enemy. Even if heâs good-looking, I refuse to acknowledge it. Why did you ask me anyway?â Tilda shot an eye-roll at Jessica but couldnât resist sneaking a peek at Bryan, who was riding back on his horse.

Bryan saw it, gave her a glance, and then quickly turned away. He dismounted his horse and walked toward Eileen.
Eileen had snapped several lovely pictures of Gabriela, who was sitting cheerfully on a small pony, her wide grin revealing a few tiny teeth.
As soon as Gabriela spotted Bryan coming closer, she excitedly waved her little arms and patted the ponyâs back as if she were asking him to take her for a ride. âDaddyâs going to take Mommy for a ride,â Bryan said, giving Gabrielaâs chubby cheek a gentle pinch. âAnd then, itâll be your turn.â
Gabriela was overjoyed and didnât mind the plan. She eagerly replied, âOkay!â
Bryan lifted her off the pony and passed her to Raymond. Raymond, who had thought he would enjoy his rare day off, ended up at the stables to babysit and was forced to watch the couple show off their romance.
Every now and then, he had to check and reply to Bryanâs messages. He squinted in the harsh sunlight as he watched the couple ride off together, Gabriela bouncing around next to him, her little feet barely staying still as she chattered away with pure joy.
Raymond looked at her, adjusted her tiny jacket, and asked, âWhatâs got you so happy, Gabriela?â
âDaddyâs taking Mommy for a ride! And then Iâm next!â Gabriela answered, practically bursting with excitement.
