"Get up. Come on rise and shine honey, it's 11pm and you shouldn't be taking your time you know. You literally fall asleep at 2pm" Minho decided to be a little brat and wake Squirrely up earlier then usually.
After we talked about what happened, we decided to recreate Squirrely's memories and now that includes a lot of time and effort, if we consider the fact that he has never really been in the mood to play but trying can't hurt.
"Should I blast some music in his ear so his inner demon wakes up. That is a good idea. Yes I will do that." Minho takes his phone and I'm not sure, if letting him wake Squirrely up is a good idea now. I know my friend is not afraid to piss someone off and most of the time I just let him do whatever he feels like, but this time I'm more afraid because the person he is doing this to is not really... well is not, in his best mental state.
A hyped up song starts playing and Minho prepares his stage, in front of the couch. His dance got sharper from last time when I saw it. His moves are faster too. I have to admit, this guy is always full of surprises.
After a few seconds Squirrely's eyes slowly start opening and he doesn't even complain about the loud music, instead his eyes fix on Minho who doesn't even notice he's up. He watches Minho dance with interest and slowly as he keeps watching his body starts to raise up in a sitting position. Now even Minho notices the woken up boy, but that doesn't stop him from finishing his dance. The song ends and Minho throws himself on the couch making Squirrely jump up a bit.
"How was it?? Was it good?? I'm pretty amazing ain't I??" The overflowing confidence in his voice can only make Squirrely nod for now, but Minho is not giving up fast on making him smile. He jumps back up and offers his hand to Squirrely.
"Let's go we decided to have some fun tonight. You need to be a part of it." His kind smile eventually makes Squirrely stop over thinking the offer and he takes his hand. I can't help but smile at the way Minho pulls him up and drags him toward the kitchen.
I fallow behind and enter just in time to see Minho forcing Squirrely to wash his hands. I didn't think he'll actually let Squirrely cook but I guess we are all in this together. We spend the following few minutes fighting over which sort of pancakes to make, even thought non of us really knows the difference between them. I love to eat but I never really cook anything, because my parents never tough me how to and partly because I almost burned down the entire kitchen once, while trying to make a birthday cake for my sister.
On the other hand Minho does have some experience... I think. I mean, he is actually not bad at it, he knows what he's putting in the pan while I'm just doing what the instructions say. Anyway moving on, since we have only one pan which is shaped for three tiny round pancakes, we decide to find a recipe that will match it.
I search the net while Minho and Squirrely prepare the potential ingredients that we might need. Finding the recipe was an easy task, now we are moving on to making the dough. I don't know what fascinates me more, the way Minho describes how to kill an egg or the way Squirrely kills it. He literally slams the egg on the table letting it spill all over the table. While I just laugh, Minho slams his hand against his forehead and right after let's it go, with a small laugh. We let Squirrely try one more time and this time, he at least let it spill inside the mixing pot. Let's portend he didn't let all the shells in the pot as well.
I clean them up fast and read the recipe further. The first round of mixing goes to Minho, while me and Squirrely search through the things we have one more time, to see which sweets or fruit we can use to decorate the final product.
I let him try a bunch of stuff with a goal to figure out what he likes and there were a few thighs he likes a lot, but the weird look he gave me on some is amazing. I feel happy tonight, tired but happy. I let him pick whatever he likes and we return to Minho, who is sweating by now.
"Oh my god, even dancing is easier than cooking. Hold this." I take the mixer with a smile of my face and continence his work. After a few minutes the structure in the pot looks pretty good. To be honest, I don't know how it is supposed to look, so I will just fallow my instructions for tonight, we can't fail it with simple pancakes right??
Once again Squirrely succeeds in making both of us laugh, when he blows into the flour out of no where and causes it to fly all around the room. He lifts his face up which is covered in white flour and looks at both of us, with an awkward expression on his face. Silence takes over the entire room for a split second, before me and Minho burst out laughing like two crazy maniacs. Maybe Squirrely can't look at himself right now but his eyebrows, eyelashes and the tips of his hair, everything is covers with flour, only two dark brown circles are peeking out.
I think tears almost drop down my cheeks from all the laughing and I can't even see properly anymore, as both me and Minho continue to laugh. Minho draws out his phone, opens his front camera and hands the phone to the confused boy in frond of us. As we keep dying out of laughter, the boy looks at himself on the phone screen and after a while, I hear a small laughter that I know doesn't belong to my best friend. I raise my head up and see the corners of Squirrely's lips curled up.
I hit Minho violently making him let out a small yawn, before he notices the reason for my action. He sees Squirrely laugh and looks at me with a half happy and half suppressed expression on his face. Not wanting to create an uncomfortable situation for Squirrely, we keep laughing on like nothing special happened.
"I need to take a picture off this" Minho says in between his laughs. He pulls me behind Squirrely and slowly takes his phone, out of Squirrely's hand. He raises it up and catches all three of our faces happy and smiley. After we calm down, I pull Squirrely to the sink and slowly wash the flower off his face. In between, we make multiple eye contact and break it but the smile from both of our faces never leaves. After I wipe the water off his face, we get back to making the pancakes and add the final ingredients into the pot, before mixing them all.
"Is this burnt??" I ask after noticing the smoke, that is slowly raising up from the pan. I lift one of the pancakes up in order to look what is happening on the other side and its burned indeed. I don't know if I have seen a more black pancake in my life before. A small silence takes over the room before Minho speaks up.
"I- It doesn't look that bad" He takes the chopsticks out of my hand and turns the three pancakes, so the uncooked side can cook.
"I'm not sure I want to try that" Squirrely's comment kind of beats me down, since I didn't actually expect him to say anything. Even Minho tried to make me feel better for burning the whole thing, but Squirrely has no mercy. "Can I try the next round" Is he relaxing again?? It would be great if he actually is. I give him a warm smile and answer his question.
"Of course chef. Let's see if you can be a good cook." Despite the fact that he almost drops the pan, by holding it to much to the front and almost burning his hand instead of the food, he pours the structure inside the three holes nicely. A smile spreads through his lips as he puts down the pan gently and looks at his master piece.
I don't even know why, but I fell so happy to see him smile. The way his eyes squeeze and his teeth peek out is so satisfying to see. Once again, I feel the urge to smile myself, just from looking at him.
After we make all of the pancakes and let me tell you that they were not all burnt. Only the three I made... moving on. We fool around with the decoration a little bit, trying to make one more thing worth remembering from this day. Minho makes a weird shape put of all different kinds of fruit that I didn't know we have here.
And I with my poor imagination, just put one fruit next to another letting the picture draw by itself. I mean, come on some of the most worth works of art were created spontaneously.
"W- What is that" Why does he have to laugh so hard, at the picture I somehow created. I don't even know if this is worth to be called something.
"... A pigeon??" I awkwardly say. It does look like a bird in some way.
"Isn't that an insult to all the pigeons out there. Be careful, you are insulting one of the most widespread species." Yes, he is right. There are too many of them for sure, but that doesn't give him a reason to laugh at me like this.
"Yaaa stop it, look at your own!!" Why do I have a feeling this is going to turn into a battlefield very soon.
"Mine doesn't look that weird!!"
"It doesn't have any particular shape so it's the same!!"
"It does have a shape, look at this it looks like a human dancing!!"
"How is that a human it looks like a broken branch from a tree!!"
While I try to convince Minho that he didn't do a better job them me, Squirrely is quietly creating his own and simple shape. I turn my head toward him and see him place all kinds on different fruit on top of his tower of pancakes. I lean forward to look over his shoulder, since he is not much taller them me and see a simple smiley face, with a few hairs above the sharp eyes and down to the weirdly balanced nose and lips.
"Looking good" I say and probably slightly scare him since I'm standing behind him on my toes like a pervert, even thought all I want it's a clear look on what he is making.
"Umm... It's you" He says and it takes me a few seconds to figure out he is saying I'm the face on his pancake. I take one more look at the face on his pancake. If he wouldn't tell me, I would never figure it out, since there is nothing that describes me on this hand made fruit face. Well maybe the sharp eyes. And to begin with, who would want my face on their food. Before his face drops, I look up at him and smile not wanting him to fell bad or anything.
"It looks great." He takes a step back making me realize that I was only 20 centimetres away from his face, which probably made him uncomfortable and before I get the chance to apologize, Minho steps in between us.
"It look awful. Maybe you hit the eyes correctly, but the rest is a pure pigeon. But then again that's an insult to all the pigeons." He starts laughing again and I immediately smack his head from behind, out of annoyance. The look on his face completely changes as his hand is already trying to return the hit, but I quickly bent down and avoid it. I stick my tongue out at him and he just rolls his eyes before turning and walking away toward the living room.
A small giggle is heard next to me and I completely frieze on the spot, as a body walks pass me following Minho. That... that... why did that sound so... omg. I quickly get myself together, take my plate and follow them.
"What should we watch. Jieun you are excluded from choosing today. Hannie chose anything you think you would like." He tosses the controller to the confused boy on the couch and seconds after, we both realize he probably doesn't know how to use it. We explain him quickly and then seat our selves down.
I sit next to him on one side while Minho is seated on the other and after 20 minutes of choosing a movie, we end up on on Alvin and the Chipmunks which is somehow funny, because through the entire movie it keeps reminding me of the boy I have next to me. How can my brain think only about the fact, that Squirrely's cheeks and the three squirrels cheeks look exactly the same. It's so cute.
Even Minho randomly said 'Look it's Hannie' on the beginning. And we earn a yet another confused look from the boy in between us. After a while, I completely focus on the movie and don't even notice when a head lends on my shoulder. Only after something wraps around my hand, I notice the weight on my shoulder, so I turn my attention to my left side, where Squirrely is curled in a ball with his hands around mine and head on my shoulder.
Not even three hours have passed, how is he sleeping already?? I thought he was getting better. I catch myself starring at him again and I don't even want to look away, it's not like I can get caught by him. He looks more peaceful then in the past few days, his muscles are more relaxed and his face is not tensed at all. While looking at his face, I notice the warmth that is coming out of his hand and body in general. He has always been shivering while sleeping, so this is somehow surprising.
"Damn, they look like a couple." I quickly raise my head up, when I hear Minho's whisper. I quickly look at him with wide eyes as he looks back at the screen.
"I mean the guy and the girl." I don't know if he just told the truth or not, since there isn't even a scene with a woman at the moment, only a father picking up his three squirrels from the evil money digger.
I turn my attention back to the screen without moving an inch, because I truly don't want to wake Squirrely up. Usually I would feel uncomfortable if someone I don't know for long gets to touchy with me, but to my surprise I feel comfortable with him next to me. Isn't is supposed to be the other way around thought?? You know, the girl sleeping on the guys shoulder.
I realize my weird thoughts and quickly shake my head to get them out of it, before turning my focus back to the movie. As the movie goes on, my eyes slowly start to close. For the first time in a while, I feel so calm and worm that I feel like there is nothing to worry about.
My eyes close and I feel my thoughts getting more and more distant. But I shouldn't be sleeping. Not so soon. Not now. Who will give him the drug?? He needs to take it. Even thought I try to wake myself up, the fact that I haven't slept well in a week kicks in and my energy level completely drops.
Shit... I fucked it up...
