Chapter 6 Do I have a heart?
âGemma, I asked my parents to find a girl for me. They chose one. Iâm only going to use her as a bait. And because of the situation, Iâm more than sure Iâll be a widow soon.â
Her eyes widened more.
âYou are marrying a girl to get her killed?â
I sighed.
âYes, but this is only to keep you safe.â
Tears appeared in her eyes. I couldnât stand a woman crying. It annoyed me. I pulled her into my embrace and kept her for a few seconds.
âBut Gideon, what if you fell in love with her? And you are going to leave me?â
I laughed.
âThat will never happen. I like you. Donât even think about that.â
I kissed her lips. I didnât do that often, but now I wanted to calm her down.
âIâll call you soon, okay?â
âWhat kind of girl she is? Where did she come from?â
âGemma, stop it.â
âAnswer me.â She yelled again, which annoyed me, but I tried to calm myself this time. I didnât want to be mean to her.
âI donât know, as I donât care. Calm down, okay? I understand itâs not what you expected, but it has no meaning at all. Donât even think about it.â
She nodded, still crying. I caressed her shoulders, turned around, and left. I sat in my car and I felt relieved. Honestly, I had nothing to do. I just wanted to leave quickly, avoiding the argument between us. I turned the engine on and drove back home.
I had a nice and huge house in Santa Monica. I loved it.
I took my clothes off, and I jumped into my pool to swim a bit. After I was done, I just laid down, enjoying the sunshine. My phone interrupted me. That was my mum again.
âMum?â
âGideon, what are you doing?â
âIâm busy, mum.â
âOh, you are always busy. I want you to come here and meet her.â
âMum, I told you already. I donât care about her. You chose, youâll get your incredible dream wedding in exchange, and thatâs it.â
She sighed.
âYou should be nice to her.â
âMum, Iâll be nice to her. Sheâll live her last year or two luxurious. I think that is more than enough.â
âGideon, I still canât understand why you defend Gemma that much. She isnât a nice girl at all...â
âBye mum... â
I hung up. I hated that when she started this. She never liked Gemma. I agree that sheâs got an attitude which disturbed my family. But I never cared about that, because I never thought she would be a Sullivan one time. Despite that, she didnât deserve to suffer. She always did everything to satisfy me. Defending her was the least I could do for her in exchange.
I nearly fell asleep when a familiar voice greeted me. I smiled immediately. That was my brother, Seth.
He looked quite similar to me. Heâs got dark hair, brown eyes and a muscular body. Even if we looked similar, we were really different inside. He did everything that was expected by our father, but next to our dodgy things, he had a nice family, and he loved and kept his wife, Leah, like she was his treasure.
I only needed a woman to satisfy me. Gemma was the best in it. She knew me well; she wasnât too troublesome, and she could calm me down most of the time. I let her be closer, but I wasnât loyal and never regretted being with someone else without her knowing.
Seth and Leahâs story was like a fairy tale. The two met in high school. They fell in love then; they got married when they were 22, and they had a beautiful daughter, the six-year-old Ava. I couldnât stand children, but my niece was the cutest little thing on Earth.
âHi Gideon, are you planning to grill yourself?â
He laughed just like me as he walked closer.
âIâm having a nap.â
He sat down next to me.
âArenât you planning to see mum?â
âNo, and if you came because she asked you to make me go there, then I got to tell you, you wouldnât succeed.â
âAre you really disinterested?â
âWhy would I not?â
âGideon, you are about to marry a girl.â
âYou know the reason for that.â
âIs Gemma really worth that much?â
I smiled.
âNo, but I like her. She does everything to make me happy. Who would satisfy me if she disappears?.â
He shook his head.
âAre you in love?â
I laughed.
âNo.â
âWhy donât you want to see her, then?â
âI told you. I donât care about her. Sheâll be a bait only.â
âDonât you feel sorry about her?â
âMaybe a bit, but it doesnât matter.â
âAnd what if Ricardo doesnât plan to do anything like that, and that girl remains your wife?â
I laughed again.
âHis wife got injured, and he thinks that was me. Of course he wants revenge and to answer your other question, in that case I would divorce.â
âThat would cost a lot...â
âNo, Iâll get our lawyer to make a prenup agreement. She wonât get anything, only a small amount of money. Thatâs it.â grinned I âI thought of everything, brother.â
He smiled.
âDo you have a heart, Gideon?â
I tapped the left side of my chest with a grin.
âItâs beating.â
He shook his head again and stood up.
âWhere are you going? You just came.â
âIâm going to do what you donât, like always.â
I looked at him questioningly while I sat up.
âIâm going home. And I can tell you about her later.â
âI told you, I donât care, and I wonât change my mind.â
âFine. See you later, Gid.â
Then he walked away. He made me think about the situation, but I stopped myself in a few seconds. I needed to go into my nightclub, so I had to get ready. I only hoped that Gemma calmed down, as I had to meet her there, like always.
