Chapter 138
Yvette stared at the check in front of her. All she felt was intense disdain.
âXavier will only let me leave once Iâve paid him back. Meanwhile, youâre offering me money to make me go away. I donât even know what Iâm supposed to do anymore,â Yvette muttered.
âWhat do you mean?â Shannon questioned.
âYou shoul
âYou should go and ask Xavier.â
After thinking for a moment, Shannon didnât continue to ask about it. Instead, she tried to guilt -trip Yvette.
âYvvy, you and Xav were married for over three years, but you never even gave birth to a child. Do you have any idea what the world thinks of him? I hope you can be more considerate of others. You shouldnât be so selfish.â
Selfishâ¦
Silently, Yvette laughed at herself. Who was the selfish one here? Why didnât Shannon ask Xavier why they had never had kids?
âI told you that you should go to Xavier about this. Itâs not like Iâm unwilling to leave,â she
stated.
Shannon hadnât expected this kind of attitude from her. She walked over in front of Yvette. âIs that how you talk to your elders?â
After saying that, she raised her hand and was about to hit Yvette. However, just as she moved her arm, Yvette grabbed her wrist.
âPlease have some selfârespect, Madam Shannon.â Yvette pushed her away. Shannon couldnât help but take a few steps back.
After leaving, she spent a long time unable to believe that Yvette was that same woman from years ago who used to be so submissive.
When she got outside, she called her secretary. âFind out what Xavier has been doing recently,
âshe ordered.
Even though she was Xavierâs mother, she had no idea what he was thinking.
He was the one who had said he didnât love Yvette, but he was also the one who was making her stay at Dewberry Manor, What on earth was going on with him?
On top of this, she had also Xavier was often lost in his thoughts as of late. If things went on like this and the rest of the Lanes found out, they would definitely take advantage of the situation.

After hanging up, Shannon still felt restless. She called Mark and the other secretaries at Xavierâs company in an attempt to find out if he had said anything.
Unfortunately, she didnât get any useful information.
Meanwhile, in the manor, Yvette felt anxious after she heard the car drive away.
Xavier didnât care about having kids, but the Lane family placed a lot of importance on continuing their bloodline.
She used to take all kinds of supplements because of Shannon and Yara. She knew that Shannon desperately wanted grandkids, but she didnât want Xavier to tell her about Zachary.
Outside the manor, a small figure wearing a mask and a cap was watching from far away.
Zachary had told the driver that he would be hanging out with his friend that day and that his friendâs driver would take him back home. Then, he had gotten a cab and come to Dewberry
Manor alone.
He wanted to see Yvette and find out how she was doing after the allergic reaction. He wanted to see if his bastard father was around, too.
The sky gradually grew dark. Zachary couldnât see Yvette, so he had to go back.
There were no cabs in the area. He had to walk for about a mile to get one.
At that moment, Shannonâs car drove past him. She was staring out of the window while lost in her thoughts. Her gaze inadvertently landed on Zacharyâs small figure.
She wondered what he was doing out there. Confused, she told the driver to stop. Then, she opened the door and got out of the car.
When she saw that it was Zachary, her icy expression instantly morphed into a kinder one. Why are you here, Zac?â she asked.
There were no other residences near Dewberry Manor.
Zachary had never expected to bump into Shannon. He wanted to hide, but it was obviously too late.
âHello, Mrs. Lane. My friend and I were hanging out here, and I accidentally got lost,â he explained.
Shannon found his beautiful, deep eyes oddly familiar. They made her bad mood disappear completely.
âI see.â The tiny bubble of anticipation in Shannonâs heart burst.
Before she had realized that the boy was Zachary, she had thought that Xavier might have had a child in secret.
