Chapter 155
Under the moonlight, Yvette looked up at the face of the man she had loved for half her life. Her throat tightened as she asked, âMr. Lane, didnât we have an agreement?â
Xavierâs hand, which was on her face, froze as he met her clear eyes. It seemed like she might cry any
moment.
He didnât know why, but a wave of bitterness surged in his heart. He withdrew his hand, got out of bed,
and left the room.
As he stood outside, he couldnât shake off the image of Yvetteâs distant gaze.
Mr. Lane?
He sat in his car and smoked. Then, he called Mark and asked, âWhat day is it today?â
It was 2:00 am. Mark had just been woken up by the phone call and couldnât help but feel confused by the abrupt question.
After a moment of thought, he couldnât recall anything significant about the day and got up to check.
There were no notable business deals or holidays. Then, spotting birthday on his computer, he realized it was Yvetteâs birthday.
He called Xavier back. âMr. Lane, itâs Ms. Snyderâs birthday.â

Fortunately, Mark had done a background check when Yvette had married Xavier. Otherwise, he wouldnât have known it was her birthday.
Xavier hadnât expected it to be Yvetteâs birthday. He didnât even remember her birthday! That explained
her attitude.
That also explained why Claude had chosen to return that night.
Noticing Xavierâs silence, Mark asked, âMr. Lane, should we prepare a gift?â
Xavier only snapped out of his thoughts when the cigarette burned down to his fingers. âItâs fine,â he said before hanging up.
He sat in the car all night.
The next morning, he knocked on the door to Yvetteâs hospital room. Since she could be discharged now, he said, âLetâs go. I want to take you somewhere.â
Yvette gave him a puzzled look. âWhere are we going?
âYouâve always wanted to meet your son, right?â
A spark of light appeared in Yvetteâs otherwise hollow eyes. âThank youâ¦â She started speaking, only to find it awkward to thank him. After all, he was the one who had taken Noah away.
âDonât mention it.â He sure was nonchalant about this.
The car ride was significantly less tense.

Noahâs condition had stabilized. With all his meals taken care of, he lived a considerably comfortable life
at Fortian Manor.
However, he was curious about when his bastard father would visit him again. Noah knew that it wa Yvetteâs birthday and wondered if Xavier celebrated it with her.
âMs. Wendy, when will Mr. Xavier come to see me again?â Noah asked, looking up at Wendy with his big eyes.
Wendy wasnât sure. Since Xavierâs last visit and the subsequent chaos, she suspected he wouldnât return any time soon. âIâm afraid I donât know,â she replied.
Noah sighed. âCan I call Mr. Xavier, Ms. Wendy?â It was so boring to just eat and drink every day. He wanted to mess with his bastard father.
Wendy looked troubled. âI donât have permission to call Mr. Lane.â She explained in simpler terms for Noah to understand, saying, âI donât even have his number.â
âOh!â Noah pretended as though he had just understood what she meant. âIâll ask for Mr. Xavierâs number next time, and you can save it, Ms. Wendy. How does that sound?â
Save Xavierâs number?
At the thought of Xavierâs handsome face and immense wealth, Wendy felt like she had found the key to happiness.
âCan you do that?â Wendy asked, elated. If she could use Noah to get close to Xavier and become a rich wife, she would never have to worry about anything again.
Noah hadnât expected the plump young woman in front of him to have dreams of marrying into wealth. To let her face reality and get a wakeâup call sooner, he said, âMs. Wendy, Iâll tell you a secret.â
Wendy listened carefully. âWhat is it?â
âMr. Xavier isnât into women,â Noah said.
Wendyâs eyes immediately filled with shock. She had never imagined that the CEO of Lane Group preferred men! She had almost fallen into a trap.
