Chapter 21
Tristan wrapped his hands around his head and yelled.
At the side, Avery asked in confusion, âMr. Shaw, whatâs the matter?â
Tristan returned to his senses. Staring at Avery, he said, âLet me ask you a question. Say someone saved your life, but you didnât know it and even treated her poorly.
âWhy wouldnât your savior tell you that she was the one who saved you? After all, you wouldnât have treated her like that if you had known!â
Avery pondered it for a moment, then replied, âItâs simple. The first reason could be that she thought I knew who had saved me, but I just didnât bring it up. She might have
thought that I was ungrateful, so there was no point in her saying anything about it.
âThe second reason could be that she didnât think saving me was a big deal, so there was no need to mention it.â
Not a big deal, so there was no need to mention itâ¦
When Tristan thought about it, he realized that Yvette had never actively brought up the things she had done for Xavier or anyone else over the years. She had never cared about those things.
Tristan felt a stabbing pain in his throat, as though there was a long needle stuck there.
As soon as Tristan returned to Bay Villa, he saw a familiar

face in the courtyard.
âTris, youâre back.â
Daphne got up and walked toward him.
As Tristan gazed at her familiar face, he felt like he was looking at a stranger.
Daphne stopped in front of him and expertly buttoned the buttons on his shirt. It gave off the feeling that they were lovers.
âHow old are you even? Youâre always so careless,â she said reproachfully.
However, Tristan pushed her hands away. âWhat do you want?â
Unless she wanted something, Daphne rarely tried to suck up
to someone.
Daphne didnât notice that Tristanâs tone had gotten much colder. Without beating around the bush, she said, âTris, I heard that Xav went to look for Yvette. What happened?â
Tristan stared into her eyes, which were filled with faux innocence. âYvette died a long time ago. Didnât I tell you that before? What are you afraid of now?â
Daphne was caught offâguard.
âI was just curious. No matter how you look at it, the Snyders did help me in the past. Yvette may have wronged me, but I am grateful to the Snyders,â she quickly explained.
âTris, whatâs the matter with you? I feel like youâve been acting weird these days.â

Grateful? Tristan had never seen Daphne show the Snynders any gratitude.
Unmoved, he handed a jacket to the housekeeper standing at the side. âMy grandfather has been asking me for the crystal pendant heirloom recently.
âDidnât I give it to you? Return it to me, and I can give you something else instead.â
The crystal pendantâ¦
Daphneâs eyes widened. She grimaced and said, âIâm sorry, I lost it.â
Lies!
Tristan gazed at her calmly without exposing her lie. He
wanted to see how long she could hide the truth from him.
When Daphne left that day, he didnât ask anyone to escort
her.
After getting into her car, Daphne felt uneasy. âSheâs already dead. Why is she still causing me trouble? Why didnât she tell me about a crystal pendant?â
Daphne bit her lip harshly. At that moment, a loud clap of thunder rang out. Startled, she looked out the window. A bolt of lightning lit up the sky, and a familiar building suddenly fell over.
At that moment, her driver said, âIsnât that the Snydersâ landmark building? Why is it being demolished?â

Several days later, Xavier ordered all of the Snydersâ buildings to be torn down and rebuilt. Even the upperâclass society didnât understand why, much less the average layperson.
Did he have nowhere else to spend his money?
Tristan stood on the top floor of the building across the street, looking at the dust and debris in the air. He stood there for a long time, unable to move. âXav, why are you doing this?â
Xavier closed his eyes and said nothing.
Tristan couldnât stop himself from speaking up on Yvetteâs behalf. âTris, the incident had nothing to do with Yvette. Her mother and brother were the ones who plotted the entire thing-â
