Chapter 222
Xavier decided to take Yvette out in the end. Perhaps he was worried that she might be disappointed.
That night, the rain finally stopped for a while. The moon was high up in the sky, shining everywhere. Xavier arrived at the pond after following Yvetteâs directions. Well, it was now a park. The pond from back then had turned into a manâmade lake.
Fortunately, everyone had gone home at that hour, and there wasnât anyone else there. Yvette got out of the car, covered up in her coat. Although it wasnât winter yet, she was wearing way more clothes than any other person would.
He walked next to her and asked, âIs this the place?â
âYeah, A lot has changed,â she answered.
Xavier had no recollection of this place at all. He had been to Snyder Residence a lot when he had been younger as well. However, he had never been to the area behind it, let alone known about the pond there.
Yvette walked on a bridge and stood in the middle. As she looked at the moon in the sky, she felt like she had gone back in time. She had made a wish with Xavier back then. She had wished she would be able to marry him when she was older, and it felt like her wish had come true.
Xavier stood nearby and looked at the woman on the bridge. As the moonlight shone on her, it seemed like she had become one with the place to form a beautiful painting.
She turned around to look at him. âXav, why are you standing there?â
He was in a daze as he looked at her. It took him a long time to return to his senses and walk toward her. When he stood in front of her, he grabbed her hand. It felt cold, and it was as if there was no warmth at all. âWhy is your hand so cold?â
Yvette smiled. âThatâs because my heart is warm.â
All this childish talk was something that Xavier had said to her before. However, the man in front of her was unfamiliar with what she was saying at that moment. He pulled her into his embrace and put her hands in his pocket.
âYou have one more minute. Weâll be going back after that.â
âIs that all?â She looked at him, hoping that he would remember the past. Even if he only managed to remember a hint of it, it would be enough for her. Unfortunately, it didnât happen.
It seemed as if he had completely forgotten his childhood, how he had made a wish here, and many more things.
After returning home, Yvette still couldnât sleep. She shut her eyes tight and kept thinking about what Marlene had said to her earlier that day.
âThereâs something Iâve been curious about. You said he was gentle back then, right?â
Even when the sun started to rise, Yvette didnât manage to sleep at all. She had previously made up her mind to try and get Noah out that day. However, it seemed like it wouldnât be possible at that moment.
She wanted to check if she truly had fallen in love with the wrong person. She also wanted to find out where Jeremiah was and why she had never heard about him before.

After they had breakfast, Xavier left the house to attend to something.
Yvette went to Marleneâs residence and looked for her.
Marlene was sitting in the garden, basking in the sunlight. She had known that Yvette would come looking for her. She took off her sunglasses and asked, âWhatâs up?â
âI want to ask you about Jeremiah.â Yvette got straight to the point.
Marlene drank her fruit juice and pursed her lips. Then she waved her hands and said, âIâm sorry. Iâm just a daughterâinâlaw of the Lane family, and thereâs a lot that I donât know about. Even if I do know something, Iâm not bold enough to talk about it.â
âWhat do you
âant?â Yvette didnât want to beat around the bush at all. Since Marlene had come to look for her and told her about Jeremiah, Yvette figured that she had an ulterior motive.
Yvette didnât know that Marlene wanted her to have a fight with Xavier. Marlene wanted to see how ugly things would get after Xavier learned the truth. However, she didnât dare tell Yvette about it right away because she was afraid that Xavier would seek revenge.
So, all she could do was make Yvette find the truth herself. âWhy donât you ask Madam Shannon? She should know more about her son, right?â
