Xavier’s heart started to race. However, Mark’s words hit him like a cold plunge into icy waters. “Sir, you and the child have no blood ties.”

Xavier’s hand clenched so tightly that his knuckles tumed white. His throat felt as if it were on fire when he uttered, “Got it.”

He hung up the phone.

The temperature inside the car seemed to drop.

Xavier glanced at the teeth marks still visible on his hand, his expression icy. He thought Yvette had deceived him. Now, he realized how foolish he had been.

He instructed the driver to head to a nearby bar instead of going back to where he was staying.

Yvette was still shaken after she returned home. At that moment, Viola called her.

“Mom!”

‘Mom!”

Two children’s faces appeared on the screen.

After confirming Xavier hadn’t followed her back, Yvette finally answered them. “Zac, Noah!” She tried her best to appear normal, not letting them sense anything was wrong.

“Mom, when are you coming back?” Noah blinked his big eyes adorably.

“Just wait a little longer.” Yvette smiled gently. “I will be back soon.”

“Mom, Zac and I miss you so much.”

“I miss you both too.”

Zachary appeared on the screen then. “Mom, don’t forget to drink milk tonight. Remember to take your

vitamins.”

“Got it,” Yvette replied.

Yvette felt blessed to have one child who was mature and the other who was playful and adorable. Because of them, she wasn’t as afraid.

She knew she had to be strong. Since she had decided to raise the two children on her own, she had to be ready to face any danger.

Next time, she resolved to learn self–defense and buy a weapon to protect herself.

After chatting with the children, Yvette went to sleep.

At the same time, Viola was also getting the children ready for bed. She reminded them that Noah had a doctor’s appointment the next day.

The children pretended to sleep until Viola left, then they began whispering to each other.

“Noah, you didn’t leave any evidence behind when you left Fortian Manor, right?” Zachary asked.

Noah’s lips curled into a confident smile. “Of course not. I replaced all my belongings.”

He had thrown away his own toothbrush and tricked the maid into using her child’s toothbrush to clean

his teeth. This was why the DNA test Xavier had ordered showed no genetic match.

Noah had done it as a precaution. He hadn’t expected it to actually be useful.

“Good,” Zachary remarked.

“Zac, I think you need to do some reflection. You almost got caught by that man last time,” Noah mentioned the incident of Zachary stealing money from Xavier.

Zachary huffed and rolled over. “I didn’t think he would be capable of it.”

“If we hadn’t returned with Mom this time, he might have traced it back to her.” Noah sighed.

Zachary also felt a bit scared. “Alright, let’s sleep.”

Noah, however, couldn’t sleep. Sometimes his bones ached at night. He mumbled, “Zac, are we going to just let him off easy?”

Zachary sneered. “Before we left, I planted a small virus in their company’s system.”

“Nice. Well done.”

Xavier, who had no idea that the children were capable of such things, continued drinking.

The next morning, every computer at Lane Group’s headquarters malfunctioned. The computer screens repeatedly displayed photos of Xavier that had been badly edited.
