Shannon left the room in a hurry. Yvette followed her out. However, before she reached the ICU ward on the second floor, the bodyguard stopped her.

“I’m sorry, but Madam Shannon has said that no one is allowed on the second floor other than herself.”

She had no choice but to return to her ward and wait for further news. She hoped nothing would happen to Xavier, especially his eyes.

It wasn’t because she still loved him, She just didn’t want to owe him anything else.

After an uncertain amount of time, a bodyguard knocked on the door. “Ms. Snyder, Madam Shannon has requested you to see her.”

When Yvette heard that, she left her ward and headed to the second floor. As Kiki had described, the entire floor was highly guarded. Other than Shannon, there were only the bodyguards and medical staff. The bodyguard approached Shannon and said, “Madam Shannon, Ms. Snyder is here.”

“Got it.” She walked to the door and looked at Yvette with her reddened eyes. “Xav wants to see you.” Yvette nodded and entered the ward. Then, she saw Xavier on the bed with his head and eyes wrapped with gauze.

There was a lot of medical equipment connected all over his body. Because of the gauze, she couldn’t tell it was him anymore.

Yvette stared at him. She couldn’t help thinking about how weak James had looked after he had been in an accident.

She didn’t dare to approach Xavier. Instead, she looked at him from a few feet away and couldn’t say

anything.

When Xavier didn’t hear her voice after a long time, he raised his hand and said softly, “Yvvy…”

He had always called her by her actual name. She dragged her feet to him. “I’m here.”

When he heard her, he felt at ease and let out a breath of relief. Then, he said to her, “I’m in pain, Yvvy.”

She was slightly stunned. Since she had never seen him acting coy before, she didn’t know what to do. What shocked her more was what he said next. 1

Shannon and the others panicked. “Xav! Are you alright?”

He endured the pain and refused to let them help him at all. Then, he reached out his hand and kept searching. “Where’s Yvvy?”

The miserable–looking Xavier was like a stranger in Yvette’s eyes. Shannon wanted to help him by force, but he pushed her away.

“Yvvy, where are you? I’m scared!”

Benedict quickly said to Yvette, “Ms. Snyder, please help us talk to Mr. Lane.”

She returned to her senses, and she couldn’t care less anymore. She approached him and grabbed his hand. “I’m here. Get back on the bed now.”

When Xavier heard that, he calmed down and obediently returned to the bed with her help. Then, Benedict and the nurse tended to his wounds again.

Yvette looked at his stomach, legs, hands, and face. There were horrible–looking wounds on them.

However, Xavier didn’t seem to feel the pain at all. He kept holding her hand and muttered, “Yvvy…I can’t see now… Do you find me disgusting?”
