Daphne had once been his girlfriend?

Xavier’s brow furrowed tightly.

Daphne walked toward him, one step at a time. “Xav, I saw the news, and I know that Yvvy wants to divorce you. She’s always been selfish. You mustn’t be sad because of her.”

Xavier wanted to kick her out, but after she mentioned Yvette, he couldn’t help asking, “Do you know her

well?”

“Yes. I was her schoolmate from the time we were in primary school all the way until college. I used to go to her house a lot when we were kids.” Daphne didn’t tell him that she had received financial aid from the Snyder’s.

She walked over to him, sat down, and looked closely at him. There were still scars on his face where he had been cut by shards of glass during the car accident.

She couldn’t resist reaching out to touch him. Xavier seemed to sense it and dodged her.

Daphne’s hand stiffened. “Xav, let me stay and look after you, okay? I’m not like Yvette. No matter what’s happened to you, I won’t treat you with disdain.”

Daphne really did like Xavier, but she also liked his wealth. She knew that other men could never compare to him, even if he was blind.

However, Xavier rejected her. “You can get lost now.”

Daphne’s expression stiffened. Xavier had still kicked her out in the end.

At the door, Shannon looked contemptuous. “I knew that she wouldn’t be of any use.”

Daphne was too embarrassed to turn to Shannon, so she had no choice but to leave.

Xavier had sent her to the asylum, but she still had the wealth that she had accumulated as a celebrity. The moment Daphne left the house, she contacted Laura and asked her to come and pick her up.

When she got into the car, she swore silently to herself that she wouldn’t forgive Yvette. “Yvette, just you wait. I’ll be giving you a surprise very soon,” she muttered.

After renovating Viola’s old house in Sangine County, Yvette took her and the children back to live there. Most of their neighbors had moved away, and the place seemed deserted.

Viola was spending most of her days asleep, but whenever she was awake, she couldn’t help but find things to do. No matter how much pain she was in, she still wanted to cook for Yvette and the children.

She knew that the moment she died, there would be even fewer people in the world who cared about Yvette.

The children were watching television in the living room. Viola and Yvette came out to serve the pierogies they had just made and overheard the news being reported on television.

“Titan Corporation will call for a shareholders‘ meeting tomorrow and re–elect the company’s

Viola wiped her hands and looked over, her eyes twinkling. She heard the host say that Xavier wouldn’t be attending the shareholders‘ meeting.

“Life is full of the unexpected.”

Yvette couldn’t believe it either. Xavier had single–handedly established Titan Corporation, but now he had even lost the right to attend the shareholders‘ meeting.

Yvette was afraid that their divorce would be mentioned on the news while the children were watching, so she changed the channel.

Back in Tirion, Shannon knew that Titan Corporation was about to fall into someone else’s hands, but there was nothing that she could do.

She called Luke, but all he said was, “Since Xavier can no longer see, he should step down so that someone more suitable can take over.”

Shannon couldn’t accept the fact that all of Xavier’s hard work would belong to someone else soon. At that moment, she received a call. She looked at her phone and saw that it was Jeremiah.

“Mom, my operation went very well. I can come home today.”

His gentle voice caught Shannon’s attention, and she lowered her voice. “Jerry, can you do me a favor?”

On the other end of the phone, Jeremiah’s gentle eyes immediately turned frosty. He had just been wheeled out of the operating theater and was still lying on the hospital bed.

He didn’t ask her what the favor was before he simply replied, “Okay.”
