Compared to the others, Xavier appeared much calmer.
Daphneâs gaze landed on Yvette. âEven though my first love and I went through a lot of ups and downs and couldnât get married, I believe that we will eventually be together.â
It was a veiled warning to Yvette.
The accompaniment began, and Daphneâs new song âA Sliver of Lightâ filled the air with its beautiful and touching melody.
For some reason, Yvette found it familiar, but she couldnât quite remember where she had heard it before.
âThe melody is quite nice. Itâs a shame she ruined the song with her singing,â Xavier said softly from beside her.
His words snapped her out of her reverie. Daphne might have debuted as a pop star, but her voice was actually quite underwhelming.
He looked at Yvette. âI remember that you used to enjoy singing.â
Yvette would have almost forgotten about that if he hadnât mentioned it. Perhaps she had inherited it from Yara, but sheâd had a keen sense of music from a young age.
Unfortunately, her partial deafness proved fatal in the music industry.
Xavier had accidentally heard her hum once, and it had sounded beautiful. He couldnât help but think that it would have sounded exceptional if she had been the one singing this song.
Yvette was surprised that he still remembered that she enjoyed singing, especially since he used to detest any noise at home. âIs that so? I donât remember,â she responded.
In the dim light, Xavier gazed at her and asked, âThen, do you remember that Daphneâs first love was
me?â
He had come there to see how Yvette would react to Daphne. He didnât believe that she wouldnât be affected by what Daphne had said.
âYou were the one who snatched me away from Her,â he said, word by word, staring at her intently.
Bullshit! He had broken up with Daphne before their families had started talking about their marriage. Yvette was furious that he was twisting the truth like that, but she couldnât let it show.
She sneered inwardly. Two could play this game.
âSeriously? I might have a hearing impairment, but Iâm not blind. Was I that unattractive back then that I had to compete with her for a man?â
Xavierâs expression hardened slightly. âDo you find other men better than me?â He would have demanded an explanation from her if they were alone.
She realized he was angry and decided to stop pushing it. âI was just saying that, Mr. Lane. Donât take

How could he not take it personally? Yvette was like a completely different person after she came back. He wanted to speak up, but Daphneâs song had come to an end.
Frankly, after the first few lines in the beginning, he and Yvette hadnpaid much attention to the rest of Daphneâs performance at all.
After her performance ended, applause erupted from the crowd. Even though Daphneâs singing was average, the melody of the new song was truly captivating, much better than any of her previous songs. Few had already predicted that the new song would be a hit as soon as it was released.
Daphneâs new single release was a resounding success. Amidst everyoneâs compliments, she couldnât help but look at Yvette, beaming with pride. Finally, she had once again proven that she was no less than Yvette!
After the media dispersed, Daphne walked straight up to Xavier and Yvette and said, âI knew youâd come, Xav. Youâve never missed any of my important moments before
