Chapter 69
âI overheard my parents talking about it. They said Ms. Reyes is with Uncle Xav because she saved Grandma Shannon in the past,â he said softly.â also saw Uncle Xav push Ms. Reyes away before.â
Zachary had only intended to get information about the Lane family from Malcolm, but he stumbled upon a secret about his own deadbeat father instead. He needed to investigate further to determine whether it was true or not.
âThatâs just your side of the story,â he said.
Even though Malcolm had no idea what that meant, he could tell Zachary didnât believe him.
âThis weekend is my greatâgrandfatherâs birthday, and Ms. Reyes will be there. Iâll be attending with my parents. If you donât believe me, come with us and see for yourself.â
âWell, that was easy,â Zachary mused.
âAlright then. If youâre right, Iâll believe you. But you have to promise me that Iâll get to eat all the delicious food.â Zachary agreed readily. After all, he wouldnât lose either way.
He was going to use this opportunity to teach that witch, Daphne, a lesson. not only did she steal his father, but she also dared to steal his motherâs work! She was utterly despicable!
On the weekend, Yvette got into her car early in the morning and headed to Kikiâs house. On the way there, she looked out at the pouring rain, lost in thought.
The driver commented, âMs. Snyder, Mr. Lander also likes to look out the window like you when heâs in the car. He often said that there was a little girl who liked to do this, saying that watching the rain outside would take away her worries. Looks like that little girl was you.â
Yvette couldnât help but smile. âThat must have been something I said when I was very young. Iâve forgotten about it.â
The driver added, âIt was truly fate that Mr. Lander and you were able to meet again.â
Yvette also found the world to be full of surprises
Finally, she arrived at Kikiâs villa. Zachary had returned home early that day. He and Kiki welcomed her
âYvvy, come in! Zac and I have been waiting for you to have breakfast. Kiki and Zachary both looked at her expectantly.
âAlright.â Yvette hadnât seen her son in a few days. She couldnât help but hug Zachary, smushing his cheeks. âHow have you been doing at school lately?â
Zachary blushed slightly and responded, âIâve been doing well.â
Kiki chimed in, âMy nephew sald heâs very popular with the girls these days. Heâs stealing all the other boysâ thunder.â
Zachary had inherited Yvette and Xavierâs good genes, so he was exceptionally charming and

intelligent. Kiki couldnât help but think that he would be a heartbreaker when he grew up.
âMom, Iâve been on my best behavior,â Zachary continued.
Yvette couldnât help but knead his cheeks and then plant a kiss on his forehead. âThatâs good.â
His cheeks instantly turned as red as a tomato. It took him a while to remember what he was going to
say.
âBy the way, Mom, Iâm going to a friendâs house tomorrow.â Of course, he didnât tell her that the âfriendâ was Malcolm.
âYouâve made a friend already? Thatâs wonderful!â Yvette was genuinely happy. âThen you should go to bed early tonight.â
âI will.â
After dinner, Zachary went to bed, leaving Yvette and Kiki to talk. Kiki pulled out two invitations and placed them in front of her.
âWhatâs this?â Yvette inquired, puzzled.
âMr. Lane Senior is celebrating his 80th birthday tomorrow, and all the notable people in Tirion will be there,â Kiki said quietly.
âMy father has been wanting me to get married. He figured there would be a lot of eligible bachelors at Lane Mansion, so he pulled some strings to get me an invitation. This one is for you.
âDidnât you want to get close to Xavier? I believe this is an opportunity.â
