Y/N's POV-
What could be that important that it requires being attended to in the middle of the night? I follow Geta through the halls and down the stairs but he looks unusually stressed. He always seems to be when it's matters involving politics. He only really seems free when he's around me..
He stops at the bottom of the stairs and turns to face me before entering into one of the rooms
G- "I- don't want you to come because I don't want you to think bad of me"
I rub my hands over his shoulders trying to relax him and press my lips against his forehead
Y/N- "If I did i wouldn't be here now" I take his hand and lead him in
As soon as we enter, Macrinus is stood around a table with Emperor Caracalla. Caracalla is wrapped in nothing but a white sheet. He must have been more annoyed at being woken up
M- "We have some news about Acasius and Lucilla, Emperor Geta"
My heart instantly drops.. I've grown very fond of Acasius this past week. Hanno would hate me having such thoughts but I understand him. He's just a general following orders. I can tell when someone has a good heart and his is pure
G- "What is it Macrinus??"
C- "Tell him of the treachery!!"
Macrinus walks around the table, not taking his eyes of me
M- "It has come to my attention that General Acasius along with his fellow conspirators have been plotting to over throw you both and turn Rome into a Republic. Give her back to the people" He takes Geta's hand and kisses it
I saw the pain fill his eyes on receiving this news. His own General turned against him. However the pain quickly clashes with a growing anger and hatred
G- "Where are they? I want them arrested immediately!"
M- "Already done.. they are awaiting their punishment in the hall"
Geta marches out of the room without saying another word and Caracalla closely behind him. I could have swore Macrinus smirked at me before I followed them to the hall. Does he know something I don't??
When we arrive Acasius and Lucilla are stood in the corner with guards surrounding every exit. Acasius looks tired almost like he expected this outcome and Lucilla just looks over at me surprised probably wondering why I am here at all. Geta starts pacing back and forth
G- "Thanks to the virtue of men like Macrinus your insurrection has been revealed. The honour that Rome has bestowed upon you.. all this you have forfeited by your treachery" his voice is calm but shaky. Caracalla's silence speaks for itself
A- "Please, Emperor Geta.. torture me if you want but do not lecture me"
His mood suddenly flips as he raises his voice
G- "Your name will be FORGOTTEN!. Lost to history! You are damned General"
Acasius' reaction was unexpected.. he just laughs
G- "You laugh??"
A- "You damn me? I don't care. Everything is forgotten in time. Empires fall.. so do emperors"
I'm suddenly hit with a feeling of guilt. Everything Acasius is saying makes sense sense.. maybe what Rome needs is to become a Republic
Caracalla finally pipes up
C- "Why wait?! I will gut him right now!" He pulls the sword from one of the guards holder and charges towards Acasius. I don't know what came over me, it just felt right. I lept forward and grabbed Caracalla, wrapping my arms around him tightly to contain him.
Y/N- "No.. No.. No.. Dont"
G- "Let them be! His death must be public brother" he helps to contain him and calm him down
C- "Public???" He grunts "Hang his entrails from the city gate and Crucify her! CRUCIFY HER!" Lucilla moves to hide behind Acasius
G- "Take them AWAY!!" he yells struggling to contain Caracalla. He is stressed so his voice went higher. The guards take Lucilla and Acasius away and we are left alone once again
We finally release Caracalla and he goes to sit on his throne, wrapping his sheet tighter.
G- "Thank you.. Macrinus. Come here"
Macrinus does as he is told and walks over.. I'm still in shock from the events that just unfolded.
G- "In these last few days.. I have come to think of you not as a subject but as a true friend"
M- "Thank you.. so much. But as a friend I must councel caution. Acasius is a hero of Rome. Crucifixion is for thieves or Christians. It's too common"
G- "He is a traitor he must die" his words a like a stab to the heart
M- "I agree.. but let the gods decide his fate in the colosseum"
G- "Let the gods decide.." he looks back at me for reassurance. He must have seen the hurt in my face as he questions his decision but I eventually nod. What other choice do I have??
